I think I end up doing one of these every time I work the E-Lead job.

Snowy Egret

Sarasota Bay

Sarasota, Florida

This snowy egret was feeding in the shallows here and the water was still, setting me up for some decent reflection shots.

There was a shallow lagoon that I used to get this reflection shot. The sun rose through this small hole in the clouds. And, as I have been doing lately, I made a video of my trip to this wonderful place! www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Bo2hRfTgrc

The last of this series of reflection shots. I think this one is the most impressionistic of the five, you can almost see the brush strokes!.

(Even at 1/200 sec I didn't stop the leaf completely...gives some idea how fast the water was flowing.)

Day 5 - Be Your Own Beloved

Reflection

Meeting a friend downtown for lunch so I stopped to take some reflection shots in the store windows and doors. I love doors!

With all the big issues around the world I thought this would a great time to post a reflection shot. I know events are painful for many people already and I fear the pain will spread. It is a good time to think about our priorities and ensure we have our lives aligned with those.

This is a shot of the sky reflecting on the hood of my car.

Thanks for the friendships, comments, faves and more!

Thought I hadnt posted a reflection shot for a while so quickly processed this one to post

Hope everyones week is going well

Taken at the General Foods Building in Kankakee, Illinois. Built in 1936 and closed in 1998, this eight-story building was full of unique things to see. Heavy rain from the days prior had created large pools of water that made for some killer reflection shots and the constantly changing weather added an assortment of looks that usually take days to capture.

Special thanks to ACERE who now operates the facility and is nice enough to let people like me into see this unique piece of history.

A cheesy reflection shot captures a number of passengers seeking guidance on where to head next from the overhead monitors. Makes a change from everyone looking at phones.

another reflection shot, I just find them everywhere in the city

I do love reflection shots and mannequins and adore when they come together in an unusual way inside a shot. Who could have foreseen that this seated mannequin would end up with headlights for eyes? Not me--I definitely got lucky here!

This shot that was taken a little while back on Madison Ave. at night. It's one of my least favorite places during the daytime, but one of my favorite places to visit and photograph at night.

I'm realizing that stores must have access to more than one type of mannequin. It's not a question of fashion, as one can have the featureless variety next door to the more humanoid, which we see here. No one has infinite storage space, so I imagine many of the mannequins are rented out for the duration of the window display in question. (I'd have to be there a lot more often to see what kind of mannequins each store uses to see if there are radical differences from one weekly or monthly window display to the next.)

The mannequin's headlight eyes do give her an "otherly" look. Something's not quite right... Is she looking at us or through us? She is definitely eerie-looking--uncanny, as well. Her gaze is disquieting, as if she were a character in a horror film. Her pose is odd as well, particularly her left foot--as if she were about to spring to her feet, and jump through the window...

I think it's the combination of her gaze and her pose that gives her the spooky allure.

The dam at the Johnsonville Mill Pond. I already posted a photo of the walkway as seen from pond level. Here is the dam and the walkway just above it. Interesting that the walkway looked white in the other shot but appears unpainted in this one.

This Mute Swan apparently is accustomed to people leaving food for the waterfowl. As soon as I drove up, it came swimming right up to where I was sitting in my car. It acted disappointed that I didn't make a contribution (sad because they become dependent on people). It did give me several opportunities for nice reflection shots.

Reflections are always on list of pictures to take and this is one example. I have so few reflection shots of the Black-bellied Whistling Duck that I keep looking for them. EXP

Best viewed large on black.

Using Deborah's earlier suggestion with yet another New Jersey pond reflection shot. This one has more debris in the water--looks like birds?

....you'll just have to take my word for it. Or you could take a look at it in a different position on a black background somewhere to the right of this one!!!! It is fascinating to see what different colours do to an original colour.

That's me done processing for the night once I've annotated the one on the black background.

Anyone fed up with these reflection shots yet? It may not make any difference even if you are!!! LOL

In the window of a beauty aid store, there were several mannequin heads with wigs, a kind of low-key, non-scary Halloween display, suggesting more 'refined' kinds of costumes.

Across the street, the windows of an apartment building created a network or pattern spreading across the mannequin's face and 'hair.' Between these two worlds is the tree at the left, as well as signposts along the street, etc.

I was struck by the incongruity of the combined elements, which also included street sign, a tree, street banners and store signs, among other things. It was late afternoon on an overcast day, so there was no sunlight to create extreme lighting effects: here, the light is uniformly grey--perfect for reflection shots.

While it's truly a coincidence, I can't help but recognize that my photo was influenced by my familiarity with this work by Salvador Dali: facweb.cs.depaul.edu/sgrais/images/Collage/MAEWES_1lrg.jpg

Shot during a damp evening shopping in the city centre.

A snow covered shoreline at String Lake. After several days of heavy cloud cover, the Tetons where finally visible, but the light wind prevented any reflection shots. I sure wish I had waited one more day to leave, and tried one more time.

My father, Anthony Attwell, getting a few reflection shots..

I have him to thank for my love of trains!

A walk through Liverpool city centre and some street photography on our way to our anniversary meal on 7 January 2025.

CP 9830 and CSX 3374 accelerate through Plymouth with plenty of clear track after sitting at Humbolt for 20 minutes for an eastbound to get out of the way. Also notice the reflection off the swamp, with not much wind and hardly any clouds the reflection was perfect. Shoutout to the engineer for giving a few blasts of the P3 air horn!

Reflection shot of the trees in an ice filled puddle. Today the rain and wind is fierce. The sun just broke through! Love the look!

It's been a long time since I spent any quality time here at the place which gave birth to my bird passion. I drove by several times during the summer, but only saw the swans. Yesterday I saw this gray heron so I parked and came back.

It was in the upper 90s and humid. Thankfully little wind. I like reflection shots, so I don't like wind. There was blue sky with a lot of puffy white clouds. A great day! A great egret flew in as well. No sign of my little egret friend, hope he's well. I had to leave just after noon to teach a class an hour drive away in traffic. Afterwards I returned here. But, on the way I got stopped at a train crossing, looked out to my right and saw some cattle egrets on my right. I grabbed my camera and got off a few shots and then pulled into a Brazillian supermarket parking area on my left and took some more shots. A great day. Looks like the same kind of weather today so it's time to get going. A bit of a late start for me.

Too much wind today for a reflection shot, but I keep trying. Still, a nice Fall day and it's fun to veer from the formula. (I still owe the owner the fall shot in the same format as the other seasons, but this one is proving difficult. Too much wind and by the time the colors really change, the leaves will all be down.). Summer shot is shown below.

Havent done a city reflection shot for a while so got this one yesterday

This single feather was too large for a reflection shot, but I really wanted to see how this black feather on a black background would look. This eighteen shot stack focus image was processed using Nik Silver Efex.

Shot from the ground level to get as low as possible and get maximum reflection. had a high exposure and hence the ghosty reflections. Shot taken at Blue Waters, a prominent beach resort in Wadduwa, 20 kms south of Colombo, Srilanka.

Just about squeezed this in. A 3-car class 172 DMU crosses the Worcester Railway Bridge with the 06.59 Birmingham New Street - Hereford. A slight breeze meant the ripples on the River Severn wouldn't provide the perfect reflection shot.

Kind of a cool reflection shot I took in the Hotel Zone of Cancun.

There will be many opportunities for reflection shots as the curtain walls rise at Hudson Yards. 35 HY is reflected on 15 HY here.

This reflection shot was taken from a small mud puddle; I saw a few puddles in a parking lot and found this reflection of the fall colors from a nearby hill. I had to set the tripod up about two feet off the ground to see the reflection.

The ballads of reflection...shot in liverpool

Reflection shot of a Plan V crossing a bridge near Nieuwstad, north of Sittard. It's not discernible in this shot but the bridge actually crosses a road.

Reflections. Shot outside window of "Ripe" cafe in Sassafras, Melbourne.

I love taking reflection shots--especially when I'm NOT among the reflections!

As the light faded, it became too dark to photograph the Bittern, so I was about to pack up and go. Then the brightest of moons started to rise up from behind the hill, illuminating the partially frozen lake. Time for some low key lit reflection shots! There were a couple of hundred Canada Geese, both on the water and on the ice, all ambling around and across the strip of moonlight. I just had to wait for one to stop in the middle and form a nice profile. I don't think it came out too badly, but moonlit wildlife photography is something to try again in the future.

This Asian small claw otter was running from... his own reflection? Shot taken at Dierenrijk Europa, a great zoo designed for the amusement and education of young children. Photo hunting fathers are welcome too ;-)

Shot with the Canon 100mm macro which might not make a lot of sense, but I provided a challenge for myself by bringing only this lens into the Zoo ;-)

A flock of nearly 150 Long-billed Dowitchers flew nearly into me before turning. I brought the camera up, pointed in their direction, and began to shoot continuously...but undershot them. This reflection shot caught my attention as kind of interesting.

Hooray! I finally made it to BCE Place to shoot. What an amazing glass structure full of lines, pattern and reflection. Shot with my Sigma 10-20mm.

Angkor Wat is a must do of Cambodia. It is much richer in photography opportunities than just the reflection shot of the temple ( which I tried my hand at, the shot make follow). I spent a day walking around 4 of the different temple sites. This shot was taken at the main Angkor Wat site. It is the northern hallway, and was bathed in shadows from the morning light. I decided to go black and white in this shot as it shows off more of the textures and the contrast in the different layers.

Unedited puddle reflection shot of my bike trip. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing :)

Last Thursday I went on a bike trip to Germany again, together with the lovely Miss A. We biked 180 kilometers, from Amsterdam to Enschede, in one day, and then had to spend the night in a crappy hotel because there were no trains anymore going to our final destination. The next day we biked the last 75 kilometers and had a fun weekend, there was a big festival going on and we met lots of nice people. Monday we came back home to the best city in the world, sadly we had to travel mostly by train because there was a major thunderstorm hovering above the Netherlands. The trip was great anyway and we'll go again soon I hope :)

I've made some movies of the road trip too, watch them on my YouTube channel, thank you :)
