Autumn is a wonderful time to see the warm colors of foliage, and when able to capture the scenery at the end of the day as the sun begins to set, the over all landscape takes on an entirely different aura. The original Pierre du Pont home, the one he and his family occupied when spending time in this region, was so lovely with the fall backdrop, and as we proceeded toward the Meadow Garden, the approach was full of those wonderful special tones, accentuating the beauty of nature, from the trees, to the old 1700’s Webb Farmhouse (now a gallery), and eventually to Hour Glass Lake. The brilliantly intense tones exuding from the single large tree by the Webb house was of such deep fiery shade for no more than about 20 minutes, so we were quite fortunate to witness that view at that moment. My wife had the wide angle and I, the telescopic lens. By the time we reached Hour Glass Lake, facing west was no longer of that burning hue, but one of a haunting backdrop to the silhouettes of trees on the far side of Hour Glass Lake. My wife had captured a nice reflection shot to the east shortly before the dusk air arrived. Of the two shots taken of the silhouette trees, the second was one where I pulled out the ultra wide angle to capture a bit more—each shot was so captivating, neither preferred over the other . . .
Longwood Gardens is absolutely one of our very favorite places to visit, for this world class floral and horticultural institution is often considered amongst the finest in North America. With the original ownership and meticulous planning and design executed by the famous Pierre du Pont, and subsequently carried over to the present day’s attention to detail and first rate exhibits, this over 1,000 acres of spectacular landscape is a sight—and site— to behold. The wide variety of flowers and plants at Longwood Gardens is absolutely stunning in all stages and species . . . akin to a real life Garden of Eden for anyone with a deep passion and appreciation for these gifts of nature. In addition, the superb stone work of the many architectural designs and structures, such as the grand fountains, promenades, conservatory and more throughout the grounds accentuate the experience, never ceasing to amaze. And now that the new Meadow Garden has been created, it has only enhanced the total experience for all.

Another of the shots I took using a circular polarizer. The lighting was low and I had the ISO up with my 70-300mm f/4-5.6... cropped / (selective) natural light.

three grey wagtail shots from this morning a clear morning with no wind allowed for some super reflections shots
I often find interesting images in Selfridges windows as I'm walking down Oxford Street. Last weekend these semi-abstract reflections of double decker buses caught my attention. Some might consider this image headache inducing but I rather like it as it stands up to prolonged viewing as you look at smaller and smaller details.

This flipped reflection shot was taken at one of the towers in downtown LA as the security guard in the lobby flailed has arms at me not to take any photos from the public street. I was later questioned in regards to a photo I took at another location; that one didn't turn out.

It's hard to catch him standing still but I finally got this reflection shot of him looking outside at the snow.
September 24, today is Della's 15th Birthday!!! So special to have this beautiful girl in my life all these years. Seems she is reflecting on all those years here so I guess we can use this for the reflections shot challenge. Just keep moving Delli girl, just keep moving.
It was a foggy morning the day after it rained so of course I had stop by the McDonalds and see how it looked. Really liked how it looked with a bit of fog. Naturally I had to go find a puddle too for some reflection shots.
This little boathouse is located about 100 yards from DeSoto Falls in Northeast Alabama. On a whim, I went up there a week or so ago. The water was perfectly still, so it made for perfect reflection shots.
This boathouse has been shot numerous times by several other Flickrers....most notably Nailbender and Rachel Pennington.
Shot taken for the Photo-a-day-for-a-month group . This is my photo for 25th October
My shiny cutlery I had at the beginning of the year is starting to get a bit scratched now :( but still good for the odd one or two reflection shots.

I realise I only put up a couple of photos from my trip to London back in February. Here are a couple of reflection shots from a calm and sunny day.
After hearing that it was supposed to snow early last Saturday morning, I decided to wake up early and go to Alviso to see if I could get some reflection shots of Mission peak with some snow on it. Unfortunately There was no snow on Mission Peak however I did get lucky with some really calm water an some great looking clouds. All I was missing was the snow!! Lol! Oh well, I guess you can't have your cake and eat it too.
better on black background.
January at Oxbow Bend with Mt. Moran and Bivouac Peak in the background. It is a little hard to get a reflection shot in the frozen Snake River this time a year, but I did get wildlife tracks. It has been a while since I made this trip, and I really need to get back up there in winter.

ANGKOR WAT - LEGENDARY LOTUS POND
.
.
This is where all those magical sunrise reflection shots are taken at Angkor Wat. There are 2 shallow ponds where the sunrise can be captured. One is the lotus pond, and the other, is a half dried water body that was once a lotus pond. If you want a clear reflection, go to the empty pond on the right. If you want these flowers in your picture, go to the pond on the left. I found this angle particularly interesting as there are these 3 and a half lotuses (one is kinda visible behind the shrubs and hidden) to counter the 3 and a half towers visible of the temple (one is kinda hidden behind the leaves of the tree). The clouds are gathering water and ready to shower the temple, bringing with it, life to a fresh layer of moss. With a cool breeze and and a few dipped degrees, we roamed with temple in awe, as one looks at this picture, you can almost feel the chill and hear the gentle rumble of the clouds.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you. Wishing you the best.
Each year our city has a lighted boat parade. Thousands gathered to see the lighted boat procession. The photos are always better when the water is flat so many of the better reflection shots are of them docked.

this mural of Martin Luther King can be found at the eastern end of the pedestrian tunnel that leads out into Oak Street Beach in downtown Chicago...the huge water puddle along the walkway created for a cool reflection shot of the artwork...
Unedited mobile phone shot of a guy going for a walk in the Westerpark in Amsterdam, reflected in a canal. No editing, no tricks, no Photoshop :)
Thank God it's Friday!! Luckily I have mostly recovered from my Killer-cold/Ear-infection experience and I'm really looking forward to 2 days of rest and severe chilling out in La Casa AmsterS@m. I was so sick and tired in the last week that I didn't manage to snap a singel wicked reflection shot (or any other pics worth mentioning for that matter!) and I sure hope that I'll come across some puddles soon, or you'll have to look at the dusty contents of my wicked archive for weeks to come...actually you've been doing that already for days and days now, I hope you didn't notice lol ;-)
Have a great day, enjoy your start of the weekend, I'll try to get seriously drunk tonight to kill off the remaining Killer-cold germs with some good Dutch beer :-P
This is the end of the first big round brick storm drain pipe that come from the outflow of the storm drain called Hundredth. The tide was coming in fast and the water level rising. It made for some nice reflection shots. Here is one of me ;)
a quick reflection shot by the South Pond while waiting for some clients yesterday for a family shoot...
this is a scene that i have been wanting to capture for quite some time now...i wanted to do this reflection shot of the skyline when the fountain is still turned off...i got to do just that this morning out there at Grant Park with just several minutes to spare before the fountain got turned back on for the day...it was a perfect day too with cloudless, blue skies and very crisp morning light...with the sun behind me and highlighting the city in front, i just clicked away and took as many frames as possible before the fountain turned back on...i do plan on going back at a much earlier time to try and get a early morning blue hour version of this shot...pls. another reflection shot of the Marilyn Monroe statue in Pioneer Park...this frame was captured during a really foggy night in the city which i think only added an atmospheric touch to this long exposure...hope you guys like this one...pls. View On Black
Although we had a challenge for part one of our Photo Walk, I couldn't pass up the chance to try and take a great reflection shot. Hopefully I achieved it.
I felt unlucky on the day as wind blew hard as soon as I set up so I'm sure the lack of focus in some parts is down to that.
I also, looking back, never really played with the aperture so it's wide open, where I could have closed it a bit and opened the shutter for longer. Lots of learning to do, and which I certainly did on the walk.
Unedited water reflection shot of Amsterdam. Taken with a Sony HX200V. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop :)
This Autumn season is really spoiling me with plenty or rain, new puddles get created almost every day and I really have to force myself not to spend all my time hunched over wet spots on the pavement, I mean, really, there are more important things in life then to take photos of wicked reflections, for example...hmmmm, can't really think of anything, maybe I'll come up with something while I'll shoot some more puddles, lol :D

Sitting on the ground about 50' from the track to get a reflection shot in a small pond, you feel the power of trains when they literally shake the ground beneath you. Seen on the BNSF C&I line between Big Rock and Hinckley, IL
Look behind you! That’s the advice one of my wise photography mentors gave me. While standing at Grand Prismatic Spring, I followed his advice and got this nice reflection shot that I actually like better than my shots of the big colorful spring on the other side of the boardwalk.
Couldn't resist sharing another one of these reflection shots. The sun had gone low enough to put me in the shadows while still brightly illuminating everything across the reservoir.

The theme for Crazy Tuesday this week is Reflections. I decided to stage some reflection shots on my office table so I could use them for my 100x project, too. I filled a big cast iron frying pan with water and stood a pewter figurine of a wizard in it. The wizard is 9 cm tall. This is my favourite shot of the series.
However, for Crazy Tuesday the reflection theme must be clearly indicated. Since it might not be obvious to everyone that this is a reflection in water and I don't want to be disqualified from the challenge, I'm posting another photo showing part of the actual figurine.
But this is my preference to include in 100x: a little more enigmatic.
Thank you to everyone who visits, faves, and comments.

A Serbian-registered corporate jet. It's been a while since I've taken a reflection shot!
Believe it or not, this happened right beside my house. Early Monday morning, I woke up and looked outside my window, and all I saw was a clear sky. My dad was just coming back from his morning walk, and I called for him to run back outside because we HAD to go for a photo walk! Couldn't miss it.
Went around the neighbourhood, then took a trip over to the Kelso Conservation Area. It was so awesome - and impromptu. I loved it!
The water in my neighbourhood pond has never been so clear, and blue...it always looks really muddy (it actually is) but I think the bright blue skies really overpowered any other colour.
I'm so proud of this shot. I've always wanted a reflection shot :-)
Busy couple of weeks coming up! So terrified.
Thank you for always commenting, I'll get around to replying very soon :) but reading them all makes me smile so much!
Cheers!

Thought I had lost this file. I have the file of the original photo I took of this but I have been trying to find this shot that is posted in VOGUE Italia after they accepted it. Something about that watermark that kinda makes me happy :)
The original photo is posted way back in my FLICKR stream (or go look in the Black & White album I have) if you want to see the original.
This shot makes me wonder at the unpredictable nature of weather. Here in North Texas (around Dallas) we almost always have some sort of wind. This shot was taken just before official sunrise and the wind was dead calm. It was also very foggy. The calm water provided an opportunity for a fantastic mirror\reflection shot and the fog provided a nice moody low contrast atmosphere. About ten minutes after taking this shot the sun burned off most of the fog and the wind started to pick up creating a lot of ripples and growing wave action. I don't think in the time since taking this photo that I have ever seen the same kind of conditions repeated here, and I go here a lot.
In case you are wondering this has had very little editing done to it.
