This is the first time I've been there and seen ice covering the shoreline. It might be hard to tell in the picture, but the ice extends out to the floating log. I still hope to someday make it there when there is both sufficient water in the reservoir for a reflection shot, and a colorful, cloud-filled sunrise sky.
Barker Dam, in Joshua Tree National Park, is one of the few places in the park that has water year-round. Because of this, the soft dirt around the shore is full of fresh hoof and paw prints from the local residents as they wander in for a drink.
When I started really challenging myself on 365 –or I think, which prompted the self-portraits sets–, I made the commitment to myself of not using more reflection shots for it. In a way reflections are completely inside my comfort zone (doesn't mean I'm any good at them) and I have been trying to do quite the opposite in those projects. Nonetheless, I'm exhausted, this is the only shot I did of myself yesterday and I like how it turned out, so I'm allowing myself this one :)

The one and only thing that persistent, heavy rain is good for! Reflection shots!
Red Bull China Firestars team members Nigel Hopkins and Mark Hensman push out the number 2 aeroplane at an extremely wet Zhengzhou.
It was way too cold to go any closer to the water for a reflection shot!
And too bad there weren't any clouds :(
But listen to me complain. Santa Monica is so beautiful!
The reality that was idealised in the recent reflection shot - more real here. Strangely, though, I would miss much of this clutter and wouldn't like to lose it in a squeaky-clean (but sterile) new version of my hometown...

Here's another shot of where Tod Creek enters Tod Inlet. Some of the trees are just starting to turn to Fall colors. In a few more weeks we can hopefully get some nice reflection shots if the weather stays calm.

I have gotten many reflection shots at this location at Chatfield Hollow State Park. Today was all green.
A cropped reflection of one of the buildings near the Millender Parking garage downtown in Detroit. I have to thank Derek for suggesting this reflection shot, it came out pretty cool.
somehow, i ended up by Kinzie Street Bridge again this morning as i was trying to find a spot to shoot the early morning fog in the city...so when i was walking up towards the middle of the bridge, i was pretty excited because the river was so still and mirror-like, just perfect for a reflection shot...but then, as i was taking my camera out of my bag, here comes a rowing team gliding thru the waters and messed up my mirror LOL...had to wait a little bit for the waters to settle down again but it never did become totally still after that though...i guess this will do for now, and i still like this one a lot...pls. Last weekend April and I took a little weekend getaway roadtrip up to Lake Placid, we wanted to do a little leaf peeping and relaxing relaxing. On our way up on friday night, I was listening to the radio and they said, it had been snowing on and off all day in the Keene Valley, which was great news for me. So of course I checked and rechecked the weather forecast for saturday morning, all clear with a a passing storm in the afternoon(alarm clock set). I figured with the freezing temps there would be frost on the grass, and maybe some fog, Man did I get lucky that morning, Not to mention there was no wind to be felt.
This photo was taken at Connery Pond just as the sun was highlighting the peaks. Connery Pond is about 4 miles north of Lake Placid. When I saw Whiteface Mountain for the first time last year I knew I wanted to capture a reflection shot of it. I wasn't able to photograph it last year, but this year I got what I wanted. I did get my reflection shot, I will show that one later.
I have to say thanks to Chris Tennant and Adam Baker for suggesting Connery Pond.
Have a great weekend All!!!
A flash of sun briefly highlights The Railway Magazine' waiting departure time with the new service to Trafford Park. In reality it had a soft launch operating for the first time all last week. A torrential downpour had created perfect conditions for a reflection shot.
I can't think of many places where you can get nice reflection shots of sequoia trees, so we had to stop here a couple of times while in the area.

Just couldn't resist the early morning reflection shot of this really pretty bird, and again thank you all for your visit and comments.
D&I at Canton, SD. I went back the next night to try something a little different, but the pool was completely gone! I often have trouble getting good reflection shots of the D&I because their trains are so heavy they shake the ground and that causes ripples. Here, they were going through the old MILW yard at less than yard speed.

Autumn is a wonderful time to see the warm colors of foliage, and when able to capture the scenery at the end of the day as the sun begins to set, the over all landscape takes on an entirely different aura. The original Pierre du Pont home, the one he and his family occupied when spending time in this region, was so lovely with the fall backdrop, and as we proceeded toward the Meadow Garden, the approach was full of those wonderful special tones, accentuating the beauty of nature, from the trees, to the old 1700’s Webb Farmhouse (now a gallery), and eventually to Hour Glass Lake. The brilliantly intense tones exuding from the single large tree by the Webb house was of such deep fiery shade for no more than about 20 minutes, so we were quite fortunate to witness that view at that moment. My wife had the wide angle and I, the telescopic lens. By the time we reached Hour Glass Lake, facing west was no longer of that burning hue, but one of a haunting backdrop to the silhouettes of trees on the far side of Hour Glass Lake. My wife had captured a nice reflection shot to the east shortly before the dusk air arrived. Of the two shots taken of the silhouette trees, the second was one where I pulled out the ultra wide angle to capture a bit more—each shot was so captivating, neither preferred over the other . . .
Longwood Gardens is absolutely one of our very favorite places to visit, for this world class floral and horticultural institution is often considered amongst the finest in North America. With the original ownership and meticulous planning and design executed by the famous Pierre du Pont, and subsequently carried over to the present day’s attention to detail and first rate exhibits, this over 1,000 acres of spectacular landscape is a sight—and site— to behold. The wide variety of flowers and plants at Longwood Gardens is absolutely stunning in all stages and species . . . akin to a real life Garden of Eden for anyone with a deep passion and appreciation for these gifts of nature. In addition, the superb stone work of the many architectural designs and structures, such as the grand fountains, promenades, conservatory and more throughout the grounds accentuate the experience, never ceasing to amaze. And now that the new Meadow Garden has been created, it has only enhanced the total experience for all.
CHECK OUT OUR LONGWOOD GARDENS Album--you will be amazed at what one can see.
Another of the shots I took using a circular polarizer. The lighting was low and I had the ISO up with my 70-300mm f/4-5.6... cropped / (selective) natural light.

It's hard to catch him standing still but I finally got this reflection shot of him looking outside at the snow.
three grey wagtail shots from this morning a clear morning with no wind allowed for some super reflections shots
September 24, today is Della's 15th Birthday!!! So special to have this beautiful girl in my life all these years. Seems she is reflecting on all those years here so I guess we can use this for the reflections shot challenge. Just keep moving Delli girl, just keep moving.
It was a foggy morning the day after it rained so of course I had stop by the McDonalds and see how it looked. Really liked how it looked with a bit of fog. Naturally I had to go find a puddle too for some reflection shots.
Shot taken for the Photo-a-day-for-a-month group . This is my photo for 25th October
My shiny cutlery I had at the beginning of the year is starting to get a bit scratched now :( but still good for the odd one or two reflection shots.

I realise I only put up a couple of photos from my trip to London back in February. Here are a couple of reflection shots from a calm and sunny day.
A different kind of reflection. Shot taken under pressure because the train schedule was too tight. Had to wait for a rainy day with some rays of sun to get a wet railway and the best "Available Light".
Best Regards from Portugal!
After hearing that it was supposed to snow early last Saturday morning, I decided to wake up early and go to Alviso to see if I could get some reflection shots of Mission peak with some snow on it. Unfortunately There was no snow on Mission Peak however I did get lucky with some really calm water an some great looking clouds. All I was missing was the snow!! Lol! Oh well, I guess you can't have your cake and eat it too.
better on black background.
It was surprising (to me) how the reflection shot was only on for a few minutes, changes in water level with the tide and a little wind made all the difference.
This is the facade of the pub (place of beer and wine...) behind Knautia in that puddle reflection shot. Here it is reflected in Marine Lake from the 'Danger Deep Water' vantage point....high saturation of original colours and contrast used to full effect here.
...and who was it that said cats don't like water? Can you see a black cat leaping across the middle of the field of vision here...? :-)
There are paths that run along both sides of this channel in the Corte Madera Marsh, and people who travel along the far side are accompanied by their reflections for a hundred yards or so. I've taken a number of these reflection shots and posted a few in the past, and I particularly liked this one because of the way the reflections are distorted by the quiet waters in the channel.

January at Oxbow Bend with Mt. Moran and Bivouac Peak in the background. It is a little hard to get a reflection shot in the frozen Snake River this time a year, but I did get wildlife tracks. It has been a while since I made this trip, and I really need to get back up there in winter.

ANGKOR WAT - LEGENDARY LOTUS POND
.
.
This is where all those magical sunrise reflection shots are taken at Angkor Wat. There are 2 shallow ponds where the sunrise can be captured. One is the lotus pond, and the other, is a half dried water body that was once a lotus pond. If you want a clear reflection, go to the empty pond on the right. If you want these flowers in your picture, go to the pond on the left. I found this angle particularly interesting as there are these 3 and a half lotuses (one is kinda visible behind the shrubs and hidden) to counter the 3 and a half towers visible of the temple (one is kinda hidden behind the leaves of the tree). The clouds are gathering water and ready to shower the temple, bringing with it, life to a fresh layer of moss. With a cool breeze and and a few dipped degrees, we roamed with temple in awe, as one looks at this picture, you can almost feel the chill and hear the gentle rumble of the clouds.
