A parting shot after shooting a Wembley bound engineers train at Canley.
I've been fascinated by reflection shots for a long time, but have only just started trying them. It's blue hour on a very showery April night and this reflection is taken on the footbridge that takes commuters over the running lines at the station. The bridge is still as unsightly as it ever was but that said, it has helped and featured recently in my work.
While I wasn't able to get a glassy reflection shot of Mirror Lake, I was really happy with how this one turned out!
Ah, finally! It was so long ago I did a long exposure infrared forest/lake/clouds reflection shot. I skipped the after work beer, and ended up walking about 12 km. Spring time, good times. I forgot my remote, so I had to settle for 30 sec.
As she walks across the shores vast, she dreams of the day when destiny shall come. Until then, her journey is one of reflection.

CC Most Versatile: reflections
Shot on a mirror with black fabric behind. Pansies scattered around Teddi and Nemesia arranged in a garland for her reflection.
Mirror edges cloned out, but otherwise unedited.
Nice reflections, shot as usual with my Fuji X100's.
Processed in Aperture with my self created preset.
Pretty little lake off of Highway 550 between Ouray, Co and Silverton, Co. Great spot for a reflection shot in the right conditions.

Always on the alert for a good reflection shot, this Great Egret was kind enough to make a long slow pass just above the water. I managed to get a couple dozen decent frames in various wing positions during that pass. At ten frames a second that was not a difficult task.
Yet more from my canal walk. Some reflection shots that I took. It was one of those days where almost every shot was a good one, and I probably overdid it, but I was enjoying myself, which is why we do this isn't it?

Credit goes to Lewis Nagle for spotting the reflection shots - thanks Lewis!!

Liverpool Docklands provide some great reflection shots and they are different each time. The stiller the better really
Very still morning on the harbour gave a great opportunity for reflections shots around Queens Wharf.
Please no graphics in your comments, unless it's from a group I've posted in - thanks
I don't get out much for photography at the moment, or out for anything for that matter but last night the aurora alerts started kicking off and the clouds were actually clearing so I took the chance and headed out... However once on location and having not done much photography for some time I forgot about the golden rule of coastal photography.... always keep looking behind you.
In the middle of this shot is the sand bar (the dark band across the middle) where I was taking shots of the wreck that you can just see in the shot. I had actually walked through the few inches deep water to get to the sand bar in the first place but when I finally did look back I discovered a small lagoon had formed. Luckily there was still an escape route open at the far end and I made it across without getting too wet.
On the plus side the lagoon made a nice mirror surface tor a reflection shot :o)
btw, did I say.... please no graphics in your comments, unless it's from a group I've posted in - I'm sorry but they will be deleted, so there is no point
thanks

I thought I would end this week with one my own personal favourite from the series of reflection shot!
The top half is the original and the rest is obviously photoshopped but I feel that this is more the direction that I am heading for, making my photography more of an art form than just a straightforward image, some of you may not care for this type of vision but please let me know what you think?
one of my favorite spots around the South Loop is Burnham Harbor...one can get amazing sunset shots from this marina and some great reflection shots as the enclosed harbor makes the water quite still especially with zero winds...you can also get a teriffic view of the skyline from around here...have a good one guys...pls. Because I was unsure where to stand, I managed to fail to capture a reflection shot of the passing BNSF train !

I got another reflection shot as the grebe passed by an area with trees with enough distance between them to let the blue skies show.

One more shot from the Fourth of July. I was able to get a reflection shot of a red wasp too.

Okay okay, I know I've done reflection shots before - and even in the same pond. But today, with the sky so incredibly blue, it took on a whole new (blue!) dimension. (There's an apartment building right next door. I took a shot of its reflection, too. But it's so sharp and clear that you absolutely cannot tell it's a reflection. Funny how that works sometimes.)
With no filter options, I've noticed that water has a polarizing effect. So, yeah, I blew it on the f-stop, but have noticed that reflections framed in 12mm portrait can provide 2 photos when cropped with near or far focus. In this case f-stop selected provided a soft focus on the background. It seems possible to recover some of the effort. Upper half of this photo would, in itself, be to my liking as a reflection shot. Maybe not upside down.
Tripod, crop.
I had taken this in November at the pond in Maxwell Park in Glasgow using my 14mm 2.8 Samyang lens. It was a very still day and I was absolutely delighted with how many opportunities it provided me with for some reflection shots. This doesn't even feel that long ago funny enough. I hope everyone is doing OK!
A boxing day stroll around The Helix and Kelpies resulted in this reflection shot using the iced over puddle in the centre of the grass.

While I was trying to get some good reflection shots of this white-faced heron a family (two adults and a juvenile) of Pied Stilts (Himantopus himantopus) flew in and started feeding.

I wanted to try and get a reflection shot that had the Opera House in the reflection. That didn't work - but I liked this.
Today was a gorgeous, sunny, cold day. Overnight temperatures dropped down to -6C killing all our summer flowers. Well, at least the lake is not yet frozen and it was a perfect day for reflection shots.
Have a great weekend and thanks for visiting.
this is also in Morton Arboretum from this morning's shoot...this is Crabapple Lake on the east side of the arboretum....quite a difficult shot to make as i had to go across waist high reeds to get to this side of the lake as there was no access path and had to crouch under one of the crabapple trees which was really close to the edge of the lake so there's no obstructions for the reflection...plus, i had to wait a little bit for the winds to die down and get a decent calm surface to get the best reflection shot...pls. A reflection shot from my Sep. 7, 2010 shoot at the Ridgefield NWR. This bird was a superb photo subject!
A reflection shot of the Milkyway taken near Grimsel mountain pass in the Swiss Alps. .
This is by far the most time-consuming shot I have created to this day (taking the shots and post-editing). I did already spend quite a long time under the stars taking the different photo layers (tracked, untracked, focus stacking & separate reflection exposures) which was then followed by a marathon post-processing session...well, I guess I should try this more often and with more practice perhaps be able to optimize the whole process a little bit. .
During those shots my wife was sleeping alongside in the alpine meadow. I do very much appreciate her patience and sympathy for my out of the ordinary hobby and her company out there in the dark! She usually tries to stay awake and watch some shooting stars but eventually falls asleep anyway. During these nights I am always absolutely fascinated and somehow spiritually touched. I consider it to be a great privilege to have the opportunity to spend such a wonderful time under the night sky. In terms of Alan Watts' analogy to the universe/life, to me this is "dancing" and "singing" to the cosmic music playing around us. So don't forget to dance and sing while the music is playing and make the most out of the brief period of time we have as stardust-composed human beings in this amazingly complex cosmos! .

Only a couple more of these to go.......
There's plenty more scope for interesting reflection shots in the reflective exterior of Grand Central so I hope to return at some point later this year to take some more.
Hopefully their attitude towards people taking photos inside will be more enlightened by then.......

spectacles bridge, built in 1634, nagasaki;
as a small kid, it was always inspiring that the name of this bridge needs not only the bridge itself but also its reflected body on the water in order to be called so. every time when my mom takes me to town, i was looking forward to see this bridge creating a lovely couple of circles.
i am always happy that my dear friends and viewers liking my reflection shots. but my eye for reflections is not original because it has been mentored by old people in my home town who built this beautiful bridge.
Day 223
Continuing with a series of reflection shots. This one is of a sculpture outside the American Enterprise building. Old guy with camera makes a cameo.
this is my version of the newest attraction in the city of Chicago, the Marilyn Monroe statue with a little bit of a twist...i have noticed that this statue is always packed with tourists so i went to the city this morning a little early to shoot this scene and hoped to avoid the crowds...i was pretty glad to see that there was still no big crowds milling about Big Marilyn...in this shot, i was so happy with my granite bench reflection shot of the skyline from the other day that i decided to apply the same technique in this instance as well...there were numerous granite benches/planters around the courtyard so i looked for a good spot, comped the frame and placed my camera on the surface and clicked hoping for the best...happy to say that i was really elated with the result that i almost did the dance of joy in public....hope you guys enjoy this one as much as i do...pls.
