It was still raining at that time when I took the water reflection shot. This view has become the classic spot to see the city with these lights at Pier 7. ❤️SF

Thanks for looking!

Stay safe.

I visited this spot for two days in a row during my last trip in the Dolomites: the first one, I was just passing by and I stopped there just for a few minutes.. Worst mistake ever! The lake was full of tourists and those little boats were literally everywhere, making every attempt to take a couple of shots impossible. I was determined to not make here neither sunrise or sunset, the spot doesn’t attract me that much to spend there the best moments of the day, but I had a few shots to try in my mind and I wasn’t going anywhere without them! The day after, while it was snowing on the mountain passes, it was raining hard down by the lake and I decided to return there; there were only five people (me included) and I was the only italian.. There wasn’t neither the parking man!

But another problem appeared: if the day before there were the little boats to move the water, today there was the rain that with its little drops was making impossible to take a good reflection shot. I solved the problem simply by waiting; I had a lot of spare time since I didn’t have any other locations to visit ‘till sunset, so I sat on a rock (big, big mistake! My butt was frozen after a few minutes) and start to wait.. After a while, the rain stopped for a moment and finally I managed to shot the landscape I was there for!

I'm not sure if you agree but I find this species very resemblant to a dolphin... ;-)

The Autumn Colors Express arrived in Huntington a few days early to allow crews to train, service, and stock the the equipment before excursion trips to Hinton on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Here's a view of the train at dawn on Thursday, October 24. Some fortunately placed puddles allowed numerous opportunities for the low/wide reflection shots I groove on.

The team at Railexco and Amtrak worked together to assemble a solid set of power, with Amtrak 822 (Phase III heritage unit), 500 (class unit of of the B32-8WH in Phase V), and 184 (Phase IV heritage unit) - not too shabby!

Sunday morning adventures with a yearling bull moose. The lake was nice and calm, resulting in some nice reflection shots.

Coming back from Subway (which I always treat myself to on Fridays, which means I get the same six-inch tuna sandwich for $3.50) I noticed this reflection of the Omni Hotel and another building on the side of the California Plaza building, which opened sometime in late 1985. I haven't done many reflection shots, not in a long time. This one seemed to work for me.

We are in Yosemite this week and Mirror Lake is a perfect place for a reflection shot.

The first stop of the trip was the airport, where they had a few setouts to make.

It wasn't clear before, but if you look close enough in this photo, you'll notice that there is not just two but three SD60's. They ran a matching trio this time. Nice!

The third unit was set further back in the consist, so when they pulled up to the airport, the cut away the power on the front, backed the cars in with the locomotive further back, and then pulled back out onto the main and backed the power back on.

Scott and Sam were both cool with us walking up to shoot them backing into the airport, and we found this puddle when we walked up. I bet the guys got a kick out of seeing the whole group of us crouched down around the same tiny puddle to get the reflection shot.

A calm stretch of water provided a number of good reflection shots of waterfowl that drifted through. This Pacific Black Duck was the last of the series.

I have lots and lots of GBH pictures, but when you can get a good reflection shot like this its hard to pass up.

Panorama of the Milky Way arch, Stonewall Peak, and a meadow near the Stonewall Mine site in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park. Shot on July 14, 2021. Foreground is gently illuminated by a setting crescent moon (out of frame).

I think this is my own personal favorite of all my panoramic photos. I'm finally satisfied with how well I got the images to nearly seamlessly stitch together here. This was made from 12 vertical frames shot at 15 sec f/2.8 ISO 3200 15mm with a Canon EOS R and Canon 15-35mm RF lens. I originally headed to the area to shoot a reflection shot of the Milky Way over nearby Lake Cuyamaca, but the water was too choppy for that. Oftentimes in landscape photography, one has to be prepared to change plans when the weather doesn't cooperate.

Cuyamaca Rancho State Park is a state park in California, USA, located 40 miles (64 km) east of San Diego in the Laguna Mountains of the Peninsular Ranges. The park's 26,000 acres (11,000 ha) feature pine, fir, and oak forests, with meadows and streams that exist due to the relatively high elevation of the area compared to its surroundings. The park includes 6,512-foot (1,985 m) Cuyamaca Peak, the second-highest point in San Diego County.

The name "Cuyamaca" is a Spanish version of the name the native Kumeyaay peoples used for this place. In water-short Southern California, the Indians called the area Ah-Ha Kwe-Ah Mac, meaning "the place where it rains." This is an appropriate name as while it generally doesn't rain in much of San Diego County during the summer (generally only in the winter), it's not unusual to experience rain here year-round.

John and I do a Snowy Plover survey here for San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory. The following pictures will give you an idea of the look of the place, including wildflowers, habitat and water reflection shots, AND ... Snowy Plovers!

UP LDG51B notches upgrade through Bootlegger Canyon with a train of potash loads in tow. I was hoping to get a reflection shot here with the Colorado River, but to my dismay, I found only a small puddle and a barren riverbed after I walked down the closed boat ramp.

A shot from the One New Change shopping center next to St Pauls. There's a lot of highly reflective glass in this place which gives you a lot of scope for some reflection shots.

It had been cloudy and rainy all morning, but at this time the clouds broke up enough to let some sunshine through. It was too windy for a good reflection shot off of the lake, but I could not pass up on this beaver mound in front of an impressive mountain.

three grey wagtail shots from this morning a clear morning with no wind allowed for some super reflections shots

This photo was taken at the end of quite the unusual weather day. When we headed south out of Moab, it began to snow. Yes, it does snow in the desert. The longer we drove, the harder it snowed. For this photographer that lives in New England, the sight of snow is not a happy event, especially near the end of winter. For a number of the other tour participants that live in much warmer climates, it was a joyful event to experience. By the time we got to our destination, the snow had stopped, and we were able to get some great shots with a thin blanket of snow (okay, I am glad it snowed). On our way back to Moab, the wind and temperature began to rise and was turning the day into what one would expect in Moab in March. By the time we got to this spot on the Colorado River, there was no evidence that it had snowed at all. I had hoped to get a reflection shot, but the wind was just too strong with ripples across the water. Patience is a virtue however, and I waited the wind out. For about five minutes, a small section of the river grew calm (you can see the ripples on the rest of the water,) and I was able to capture this scene before the winds kicked back up.

Totally random reflection shot for today.

While walking along Bandon Beach's sea stacks, I noticed a rock forming a pool around itself as large waves crashed on it. At that moment, the water wasn't quite deep enough for a reflection shot, but I liked how it was positioned in front of the Wizard’s Hat Sea Stack. After sunset, the tide rose, and waves started hitting the rock more frequently, enlarging and deepening the pool. On my way back, I captured a stunning reflection of the iconic Wizard's Hat with beautiful sunset colors in the background.

I decided to take a trip up north to Mt. Vernon to shoot the tulips on my day off work. When I woke up, it was cloudy and slightly rainy which I was excited about. Normally I hate shooting in the rain, but today was a different story. When it rains, nice puddles form in between the rows of tulips which make for awesome reflection shots.

Fast forward to when I arrived at the tulip fields. After I parked, I started taking photos for no more than 15 minutes before the harsh sunlight popped out of the clouds. I looked up into the sky to see little to no cloud cover as far as I could see in every direction. After about 15 more minutes of walking around hoping for random clouds to appear, I decided that it was time to pack up and go home.

Sunlight is my worst enemy as it always creates harsh contrast and ugly shadows.

As the sun drops below the hill at Porthmeor beach St Ives I managed to get some reflection shots after each little wave brought more water in .

I've been posting from my archives more often than not of late and this particular image happens to be from 2006. It was a beautiful day, really bright blue sky, huge puffy white clouds, the works! This image is actually a shot of a partially stagnant portion of a lake, full of floating autumn leaves and the wind fiercely blowing creating ripples on the surface. I turned it upside, just because...(because I like to 180 reflection shots and because I swear I can make out a face or two in this one when viewed upside down). Amazing what the wind can do ;-)

The weather forecast looked good so I took a deep breath and drove the 6 hours to Lake Matheson (Fox Glacier) yesterday in an attempt to take a nice reflection shot of Mt Tasman and Mt Cook. This is the last of a pano of 3 portrait images. I was hoping that the sky would turn pink/purple as the sun was setting. Luckily, I was not disappointed.

Shot on iPhone 7 Plus.

One of the things I like about puddles is that it opens up the chance of reflection shots that only exist for a small window of time.

Another reflection shot this week, in response to the word 'Borders' given to me by Southampton uni.

I would like to thank everyone for their positive comments to my reflection/borders work, its nice to see that people like your work.

This shot is of a glass table that was wet from the rain, the reflection of the tree really stood out to me, I wanted those out of focus parts to add depth and the feel that you was bordering on into a different world.

They replaced a tradition style fountain a few years ago with one of those water features with the jets of water that people like to run though! It was tempting during the hot hours, but I'm far too sensible!! At this moment the jets weren't going and it occurred to me I might be able to get a good reflection shot!

Fountains Abbey, N Yorkshire.

It was too windy on this the first evening to get any reflection shots in the river, so I concentrated on catching the lighting from here, with the bonus that it was clear and starry! What you don't get to experience with a photograph, is the wonderful sound of Gregorian Chant that is played in the ruins.

Mary’s Peak is just west of Corvallis and is the highest peak in the Oregon coast range. All the recent rains caused the flooding that made this reflection shot possible. Nice evening out there, including circling hawks and one of the biggest damn snakes I’ve ever almost stepped on!

8 Tallet by night. This residential and commercial building is located in southern Copenhagen. The shape is in the form of a loop/figure of 8. By night there are super opportunities for reflection shots. Getting here is easy. Take the Metro M1 to Vestamager, and then it’s a 5min walk.

52 Weeks of Pix: "Reflections"

Saw this huge Xmas tree at the local mall earlier in the week and thought it might be good for a reflection shot. Seasonal too. It is Spring going on Summer here hence the short sleeves and the very bright sunshine.

The museum of Roman Xanten is brilliant!

While I was looking at a wonderful display under a glass cabinet I realised that there might be a photo-opportunity . . as you do!

I placed the Canon G6 on the glass display top and pressed the button and abracadabra out came this magical reflection shot!

The effect of almost tinted monochrome is fascinating!

A square format crop from my previous upload of reflections in a Bangkok skyscraper.

Since my first visit to Thailand back in 2002 it was very noticeable how many new skyscrapers there were in Bangkok. Whereas before a few stood out now the skyline is full of highrise buildings. Consequently there were plenty of reflection shots like this to be taken.

From Wikipedia : "While most of Bangkok's streets are fronted by vernacular shophouses, the largely unrestricted building frenzy of the 1980s has transformed the city into an urban jungle of skyscrapers and high rises exhibiting contrasting and clashing styles. There are 581 skyscrapers over 90 metres (300 feet) tall in the city. Bangkok was ranked as the world's 8th tallest city in 2016."

Today's Union Pacific MIR job is hustling across the Mississippi River with a short train in tow. They're using somewhat unusual power today with a snoot nose SD40N instead of a much more typical GP unit.

The river was great this morning for a reflection shot.

Another reflection shot from Dana Meadows in Yosemite NP, CA. I almost missed this cloud while shooting in the opposite direction toward Mammoth Peak.

Got out for a walk at lunchtime last week to try and get some reflections shots, here is one of them

Thanks everyone for the suportive comments, they are appreciated, and I am back clicking and enjoying flickr and my friends on here :)

Montrose Harbor had some rain puddles this particular night which I used to my advantage in getting this nice reflection shot of the city's skyline...the glow of the city reflected onto the clouds just added some cool drama to this image I think...to get this shot, I simply set my camera to expose for 10 seconds on time delay to give me time to press the shutter and set the camera on the ground and avoid any camera shakes and hope to get a nice result...with some luck, this was my first try and liked how this came out....pls.View On Black
