One of a pair of small snapshots with identical handwriting on the reverse. This one has the notation, "Departure from Picton in Cornells. Just before the snowstorm." Picton is the county town of Prince Edward County, Ontario. The body of water in the background would be Lake Ontario or the Bay of Quinte. The land could be Prince Edward or Hastings County. Would this type of trainer have been in WW2 BCATP use or would they indicate a postwar date for this image?

I've started a project of sifting through my dad's old negatives, some of which date to 1938, and making contact sheets so I can get a better look at images that I might like to scan.
Every once in a while I come across a picture that's a bit of a head-scratcher… Why do I have a feeling something isn't quite on the level here?
There are other photos of my father wearing a cap with the same insignia, ID'd as being from the "#3 Wireless School, Winnipeg, Manitoba" in 1943.
RCAF 17515 - Canadair C-54GM North Star 1 ST - Royal Canadian Air Force
at the Canada Aviation & Space Museum, Ottawa Rockcliffe Airport (YRO)
This North Star (c/n 122) was manufactured in 1948 by Canadair Limited in Montreal, Quebec and was delivered to the RCAF in March of that year. It spent its entire career with No. 426 Squadron.
This North Star was one of two that took part in a ceremony to mark the official "stand down" of the type in December 1965. It was retired and transferred to the Museum
in 1966. It is the only North Star left in the world and fund-raising has started now to finance a complete restoration of the aircraft.
RCAF 7207 - AVRO (deHavilland Canada) Anson Mk.2 - Royal Canadian Air Force
at the NAFMC at CFB Trenton/ON (YTR)
In service with the RCAF 1940-1952
In the 1930s A.V. Roe Company (Britain) built the Avro Anson as a reconnaissance airplane for the RAF. The aircraft began its military service in 1936, becoming the RAF’s first monoplane with a retractable undercarriage. It served in the early years of the war as a light bomber and coastal patrol aircraft. The Anson was severely limited in range, re-power and bomb load and was soon limited to training, transport and other non-combat roles. By 1940 it was being replaced by the Lockheed Hudson and the Armstrong Whitworth Whitley.
In the early days of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP), the Anson was selected as the primary twin-engine aircraft for the training of pilots, observers, wireless- operators, and bomb aimers. Over 20,000 aircrew received their training on the aircraft.
As a training aircraft, the Anson was easy to manage and fly. Most Ansons were declared surplus at war’s end and many were immediately destroyed. Some were sold to farmers who used their electrical, mechanical, and other parts for various purposes on the farm.
The National Air Force Museum of Canada Avro Anson Mark II fuselage and various assorted pieces were acquired with the assistance of Mr. Byron Reynolds, from the Reynolds Aviation Museum in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, in October 2005. The aircraft had been lying unprotected in a field for perhaps 60-plus years.
The National Air Force Museum of Canada completed the restoration of the Avro Anson in 2017.

RCAF Pre-WWII shot taken at Winnipeg, Manitoba of early training airplane called an Avro Tutor. Photo from the album of R. H. Dibnah.
Built in 1960 this circular building housed a "Wimpy" for many years before being passed from operator to operator whilst suffering inevitable neglect. It was listed by the Department of Culture Media & Sport (DCMS) in the 1990's and restored by Michael Aukett Architects for developers Arrowcroft in 2002. One unique aspect of it's character is that it had no customer toilets fitted (only staff ones down a set of metal spiral stairs) so the public had to walk up the precinct to use the ones there - even post refurbishment they have to use the ones below Central Library.
