Airmen of the RCAF Ceremonial Guard present arms at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Cenotaph in Ottawa on a rainy day.

The Royal Canadian Air Force has been conducting ceremonial duties at the Tomb since 2007. The current detachment of airmen and airwomen due to lack of service seniority credits do not qualify for more than one Dress Uniform in spite of being assigned ceremonial public duties. They are required to wear the same uniform, wet or dry, during the tenure of their two day rotation at the Tomb.

Public duties are an honour bestowed upon loyal and distinguished formations of our Armed Forces. A Canadian public reasonably assumes these units shall demonstrate pride of service, and provide the young men and women who conduct these duties with adequate support, including sufficient changes of uniform while on duty, and when serving during inclement weather.

In early April, RCAF aircraft such as the CF-18 Hornet fighter, CC-130T Hercules and CC-150T Polaris air-to-air refueling aircraft are being flown throughout the Arctic territories, Newfoundland and Labrador.
