I live about 15kms from the airforce base (CFB Trenton) and I can always hear when the F18s are around. I caught a shot of this one coming in for a landing.

J'habite à environ 15 km de la base aérienne (BFC Trenton) et j'entends toujours quand les F18 sont dans les parages. J'ai pris une photo de celui-ci venant pour un atterrissage.

Photographed in its demo team colours at the CFB Trenton air show.

Gosh, these guys go fast!

As soon as I spot the F18 taking off, and I am ready with my camera, wow, I can hardly track their flight.

.......................................................................................

Mon Dieu, ces gars vont vite !

Dès que je repère le F18 décoller, et que je suis prêt avec mon appareil photo, waouh, j'ai du mal à suivre leur vol.

The Hercules aircraft have been around 'forever', serving many varied roles around the world.

This definition I just Googled sums up my thoughts perfectly with regards to the Hercules:

"a person or machine that dependably performs hard work over a long period of time".

The Snowbirds, officially known as 431 Air Demonstration Squadron are the military aerobatics or air show flight demonstration team of the Royal Canadian Air Force. The team is based at 15 Wing Moose Jaw near Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. The Snowbirds' official purpose is to "demonstrate the skill, professionalism, and teamwork of Canadian Forces personnel". The Snowbirds are the first Canadian air demonstration team to be designated as a squadron.

The show team flies 11 CT-114 Tutors—nine for aerobatic performances, including two solo aircraft, and two as spares, flown by the team coordinators. Approximately 80 Canadian Forces personnel work with the squadron full-time; 24 personnel are in the show team that travels during the show season. The Snowbirds are the only major military aerobatics team that operates without a support aircraft.

The Snowbirds continue the flying demonstration tradition of previous Canadian air force aerobatic teams, which include the Siskins, the Blue Devils, the Golden Hawks, and the Golden Centennaires.

Number 431 Squadron formed on 11 November 1942, at RAF Burn (in North Yorkshire), flying Wellington B.X medium bombers with No. 4 Group RAF Bomber Command. The squadron moved to RAF Tholthorpe in mid-1943 as part of the move to bring all RCAF squadrons into one operational group – No. 6 Group RCAF – and converted to Halifax B.V four-engined heavy bombers. In December 1943 the squadron moved to RAF Croft where it was re-equipped with Halifax IIIs and later, Lancaster B.X aircraft. The squadron moved to RCAF Station Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, after the war, disbanding there on 5 September 1945.

Shot at dusk just prior to the start of the 106th Grey Cup game between the Calgary Stampeders and the Ottawa RedBlacks. I was fortunate to get some underside lighting here from the pre-game fireworks as it was getting dark. It was surprisingly mild for late November in Edmonton, as the Calgary Stampeders defeated the Ottawa RedBlacks 27-16 on an icy field.

These venerable old Hercules aircraft are still wonderful to see, and hear. They're a superb workhorse around the world, and have been for over 50 years!

............and have a great weekend, my friends:)

These Hercules CC130 aircraft are designated for Search And Rescue (SAR) operations here in Canada. They are a very old design, dating back to the 1950s, but their robust design has kept them in daily service. Some of the aircrew here tell me that these older versions are very reliable and dependable in the harshest conditions.

RCAF F-18 790 from the CFB 3 Wing Bagotville demonstration team performing at the RCAF 100th anniversary show.

Here you can see the red-hot afterburner effect which is used to provide an increase in thrust, usually for supersonic flight, takeoff and for combat situations.

These Hercules are very old, but in use extensively around the world every day.

For me, they are fun to watch, hear and yes to photograph!
