I had the opportunity last weekend of watching a performance of the Snowbirds, which is the Royal Canadian Air Force's aerobatic demonstration team. It was an interesting experience trying to capture objects that move so much faster than most of my regular subjects.

An RCAF CH-146 Griffon hovering over Lake Ontario during a search and rescue demonstration, with mist rising off the water, sailboats drifting along the horizon, and even a bird catching the moment overhead.

The heli wreck was located near the border between Thailand and Cambodia and had crashed on 1st April 1998 with approx. 30 people, including ten foreign journalists and a British diplomat. The dangerously overloaded helicopter foundered on its approach to the temple, bumped the ground twice before turning on its side, breaking up and detonating at least one landmine in the border-area (you can still see barbed-wire next to it). The passengers suffered only minor injuries.

These venerable Hercules have a wonderful sound, and when they fly close to the ground (such as this, coming in for a landing), the wind turbulence is something else!

Lockheed CC-130H(T) Hercules 130341 of the Royal Canadian Air Force climbing out of RAF Waddington to support the first sortie of the day during Exercise Cobra Warrior 25-2. The nose gear is just tucking away and the propellers are trailing tip vortices in the cool morning air. Passing overhead at 32,000 feet was an easyJet A319 bound for Prague out of Liverpool.

Kind of a favourite of mine. Not the typical snow birds this time ;) The heat from engines and the summery airshow reminds me of the warm days to come :)

My husband's only uncle died after an excursion in WWII.
