This shot was taken towards the back end of the Summer in September.
I have a few favourite walks near to where I live and this one is great at the end of the day.
The photo was taken down a quiet track called Red Lane which runs from Streethouse towards the village of Old Snydale and is accesable via numerous footpaths in the area.
The shot itself is a 3xp Handheld HDR with one stop bracketing and tonemapped in Photomatix, although this one didn't need much processing as the colours were very bright and strong with the sunlight and the shadows under the trees adding atmosphere to the shot.
Sandsend Ness is an old alum quarrying site close to Whitby in North Yorkshire, England.
Beneath extensive deposits of grey pyritic shale a thin band of sideritic mudstone is present at this site and there is a further 6 metres of almost non-bituminous shale beneath it. This geological configuration, along with its proximity to the port of Whitby, offered Sandsend near-ideal conditions for the rapidly expanding alum industry from the early 17th century onwards.
So wide-scale and prolonged were these activities, that significant areas of the Yorkshire coast were permanently altered.
The double sulphate of aluminium and either potassium or ammonia is commonly known as alum. This material was of great importance through to the late 19th century in leather tanning and in the wool dying industry. Even today it is still used in some places as a mordant (dye fixative).
Fossils are present in large numbers in the deposits, including ammonites such as Hildoceras bifrons and Dactylioceras bifrons and also Ichthyosaur and Plesiosaur remains, though the latter are nowadays much less commonly found. In fact, the ammonite Hildoceras is named after an early Christian saint, the Abbess of Whitby St. Hild or Hilda (614-680). It was believed that such ammonite fossils were the snakes which had been miraculously turned into stone by St. Hilda. It was not unknown for local “artisans” to carve snakes' heads onto ammonites, and sell these “relics” as proof of the miracle. The coat of arms of nearby Whitby actually include three such 'snakestones'.

i dont know how they do it but they cycle even in the smallest lanes around the smalles corners...int othe golden light...
A stormy sky over the historic Hayling Island oyster bed lagoon.
Sadly they have been closed recently by Environmental Health due to pollution and contamination in the harbour. The beds were contaminated by the discharge of raw untreated sewage into the harbour by Southern Water Authority.
An absolutely disgraceful situation.
Southern Water have done this before and been fined for such deliberate pollution.

I took a shot of this street in Wakefield sometime last year, and it won me a competition at my local camera club.
However is I am never satisfied I decided to revisit the location and try again with a slightly different composition.
It's a handheld HDR with +-1ev on each shot. and the location is the George and Crown Yard which runs parrallel with Wood Street.
"When we least expect it, life sets us a challenge to test our courage and willingness to change; at such a moment, there is no point in pretending that nothing has happened or in saying that we are not yet ready. The challenge will not wait. Life does not look back. A week is more than enough time for us to decide whether or not to accept our destiny."
