The fallen Autumn leaves still on this woodland scene in spring added interest and a bit of a lead in through the scene to the light.
Its a while since I posted a proper landscape shot that wasn’t ICM and ive a few still lurking on my hard drive to post process from winter and spring trips!

It's not easy to get photos of the London Eye up close, this is because of "jobs worth" security that keep saying you can't take photos here etc!
Life is so busy nowdays, I tend to take my camera with me in my van, which has the added bonus of being quite high and seeing over the Hedges for good snapshots !
This is a hand held single raw with a polariser.

The Split Point lighthouse at Aireys Inlet is always a wonderful subject to photograph from different perspectives. This image was taken just before a storm hit the area, luckily made it back to the car just before it pelted down.
This is a view from the Quiraing toward the Trotternish ridge, visible is Cnòc a Mhèrlich, Cleat and Bioda Buidhe barely visible in the cloud cover. Behind Cleat and hidden in the clouds is Beinn Edra. For a sense of scale there are 7 sheep between Loch Cleat and Loch Leum na Luirginn.
This was a very enjoyable morning at the Quiraing as the view was in a constant state of flux. The low clouds were moving over the ridge hiding then revealing various portions of the ridge while at the same time the light was also shifting.
Once I achieve the composition and capture I want, I am usually ready to move to the next location. This morning I was fixated on the changing light and mood and remained here for most of the early morning.
In this image, the shifting light has highlighted its way path through the low clouds before highlighting the base of Druim an Ruma and Dun Dubh with patches of light continuing toward The Uig-Staffin road on the far right. The shifting light has also illuminated ground immediately behind Cnòc a Mhèrlich.
Backyard Shots field trip to Historic Oakland Cemetery
Atlanta, Georgia USA
Sunday, July 31,2011
Pictures from my field trip to the Historic Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta with the Backyard Shots group led by David Akoubian.
Details of the image
A view of Webb crypt and Austell mausoleum in background.
The Webb Vault is constructed of traditional granite block and features a welcoming bench for visitors on the north side of the structure.
The Austell Mausoleum was built for General Alfred Austell, a Brigadier-General in the Georgia State Militia during the Civil War. Though he was successful and wealthy before the war, his businesses were ruined at the close of the conflict. General Austell rebuilt his fortune and went on to co-found the Atlanta National Bank (successor to Wachovia Bank) and was a director of the Western & Atlantic Railroad. The city of Austell, Georgia is named for him.
The mausoleum structure was constructed in 1883 at a cost of $16,000. (In today's dollars - using the Conumer Price index to calculate, that would be aproximately $292,000.00) It is made of granite and marble and designed in the Gothic Revival style. This site is also the resting place of Albert E. Thornton, Austell's son-in-law who was president of Elberton Oil Mills, and other family members of the Austell, Thornton and Kennedy lines.
Historic Oakland Cemetery
Originally called the Atlanta Graveyard, the initial plot of land was purchased by the City of Atlanta in 1850. Oakland is located east of downtown Atlanta in an area that was rural farmland at the time it was founded. Large US cities of the 19th century typically had crowded, unattractive cemeteries centered in the urban areas. Oakland is an early example of the "rural garden cemetery", designed in a park-like setting landscaped with walking paths and beautiful shady areas to sit and relax.
The cemetery expanded rapidly during and just after the Civil War to accommodate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died during the Battle of Atlanta as well as other action in the area. Many stones marking the dead of the War Between the States dot the grounds and there is also a memorial called the "Lion of Atlanta" which commemorates 3,000 unknown Confederate soldiers.
Oakland Cemetery was added to the National Register of Historic Places (#76000627) in 1976.

Aylesford at sunset. In Explore # 300
Aylesford is a large village on the River Medway in Kent, 4 miles NW of Maidstone in England. Originally a small riverside settlement, Aylesford has expanded rapidly over the past thirty years to gain a population of around 5,000

Looking down towards Buttermere, Lake District. Very moody looking clouds and unfortunately it started raining shortly after!

Dunstanburgh Castle, Northumberland
Perched high on a cliff, Dunstanburgh Castle is now largely ruinous although it rated at one time among the largest and grandest castles in the north of England. Dating from the 14th century, the castle was protected on two sides by the sheer cliff face and the sea.
The first building works at Dunstanburgh Castle took place under Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, and the remains of the early 14th century gatehouse can be seen in the form of two D-shaped towers either side of an arched entrance. From these surviving structures it is possible to imagine what a magnificent and imposing building the gatehouse must have been.
Despite the ruinous state of Dunstanburgh Castle, it presents a formidable and imposing sight from a distance. To fully appreciate the environment, Dunstanburgh Castle can be approached by a twenty-minute trek across the rocky beach. With unpredictable weather conditions prevalent along the north east coast, it can be an extremely atmospheric experience.
Dramatic light - a fine haze in the sky looking straight into the sun, with a bright reflection off the south end of Loch Tay.
The mountain is Sron na Clachainn.
Also in shiny colour.
