At a small township shop window, Austria [2012]

Photographed by Yves Roy

Huguenot Memorial Park is at the southern end of the chain of barrier islands that make up Florida's coast north of the St. Johns. Huguenot covers the northern end of the mouth of the St. Johns River and the Atlantic seashore to the south of Little Talbot Island. Admission to the park also allows vehicle access to the beach, though though exposure to the tides is at your own risk.

The Bow River reflects the evening lights from downtown Calgary.

It's flat on average... in practice the water is more like a jacuzzi.

Backyard Shots field trip to Historic Oakland Cemetery

Atlanta, Georgia USA

Sunday, July 31,2011

Pictures from my field trip to the Historic Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta with the Backyard Shots group led by David Akoubian.

Details of the image

A view of Austell mausoleum with the Webb mausoleum in front.

The Austell Mausoleum was built for General Alfred Austell, a Brigadier-General in the Georgia State Militia during the Civil War. Though he was successful and wealthy before the war, his businesses were ruined at the close of the conflict. General Austell rebuilt his fortune and went on to co-found the Atlanta National Bank (successor to Wachovia Bank) and was a director of the Western & Atlantic Railroad. The city of Austell, Georgia is named for him.

The mausoleum structure was constructed in 1883 at a cost of $16,000. (In today's dollars - using the Conumer Price index to calculate, that would be aproximately $292,000.00) It is made of granite and marble and designed in the Gothic Revival style. This site is also the resting place of Albert E. Thornton, Austell's son-in-law who was president of Elberton Oil Mills, and other family members of the Austell, Thornton and Kennedy lines.

Historic Oakland Cemetery

Originally called the Atlanta Graveyard, the initial plot of land was purchased by the City of Atlanta in 1850. Oakland is located east of downtown Atlanta in an area that was rural farmland at the time it was founded. Large US cities of the 19th century typically had crowded, unattractive cemeteries centered in the urban areas. Oakland is an early example of the "rural garden cemetery", designed in a park-like setting landscaped with walking paths and beautiful shady areas to sit and relax.

The cemetery expanded rapidly during and just after the Civil War to accommodate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died during the Battle of Atlanta as well as other action in the area. Many stones marking the dead of the War Between the States dot the grounds and there is also a memorial called the "Lion of Atlanta" which commemorates 3,000 unknown Confederate soldiers.

Oakland Cemetery was added to the National Register of Historic Places (#76000627) in 1976.

Have a great day!

A few more from Lake Jindabyne on the foggy Sunday morning I was lucky to see when I was down there. The pano is Lion and cub Islands and Little Lion Island and portrait orientation shot is a stacked LE of Curiosity Rocks.

Can't wait to get back.

Rainy and foggy weather on the Salmon River. Fish were not cooperating!

Just a taster of things to come, were off to Bonnie Scotland next week for some well earned R&R.

Meanwhile a panorama from back in 2011.

Staffin is at the Northern end of the Isle of Skye, and sits under the cliffs that are part of the Trotternish Ridge…...a spectacular and primeval landscape that includes The Old Man of Storr, and the Quirang. No mountains here, but still jaw dropping scenery. Maybe I am a "little" biased ! One of the best coastal drives...anywhere.

Captured here towards the end of the day, just before the cloud obliterated the sun. One of those occasions of being in the right place at the right time.

The light is what it is ALL about.

ON EXPLORE # 42

The views of Glen Etive are breathtaking and we were lucky to visit when the morning sun was highlighting the steep fells burning off the fine morning mist.

This shot was taken with the telephoto lens to compress the scene and show the beauty of the trees against the stark bareness of the fells beyond.

Extremely long exposure from a pitch dark night down by a roaring sea. In the distance, a fishing boat passing by slowly writing a bobbing trail on the horizon. I used no artificial light source on the rocks in the foreground, solely natural light, largest aperture and open shutter for 16 minutes.

It was like light painting but I didn't have to do the painting myself, the ship on the horizon did it for me. :)

Exposure: 16 minutes @ f/2.8, ISO100, 17mm, Nikon D300, Nikkor AF-S 17-55/2.8, MC-36

Lakeside on Lake Windermere this morning.

Got up around 7.30am and noticed a thick veil of mist over the lake, it was just starting to clear as I made my way down, the sun was just breaking through and breaking the mist up, ten minutes after this shot was taken it had gone and a bright beautiful day ensued.

Moody skies over Ullswater in the Lake District.

Kerrera (Scottish Gaelic: Cearrara, pronounced [ˈkʲʰɛrˠəɾə]) is an island in the Scottish Inner Hebrides, close to the town of Oban. In 2005 it had a population of about 35 people, and it is linked to the mainland by passenger ferry on the Gallanach Road.

The island is known for the ruined Gylen Castle, built in 1582. It was also the place where Alexander II of Scotland died in 1249. The highest point on Kerrera is Carn Breugach at 189 metres (620 ft). Most of the island is owned by the McDougalls of Dunollie, who are descended from the Scottish prince Somerled. The four-acre tidal island at the north-east tip of Kerrera, Rubh'a Chruidh, was sold for £426,000 in 2010 to Lanarkshire businessman, David Hamilton.

The main industries on the island are farming (sheep and Highland cattle) and tourism. There is a tea room/café at the south end near Gylen Castle. The castle itself has recently been restored and is now fully open to the public. At the north end of the island is the 200-berth Oban Marina, which has a complementary ferry service running to/from North Pier, Oban. The only licensed premises on the island is situated here; the Waypoint Bar and Grill which sells local produce including oysters, scallops, beef and lamb.

Tried a new PP method.

Not disappointed.

Brodsworth is a village and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, England, situated about five miles north-west of Doncaster. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 346.

Historically, the parish of Brodsworth was much larger but with the sinking of Brodsworth colliery by the owners of Brodsworth Hall, the model village of Woodlands was built two miles away. On 1 April 1915, Woodlands was added to the parish of Adwick-le-Street since the colliery town had expanded to the stage where it joined Adwick. Brodsworth remained as a collection of farms and the estate village.

The local church, St Michael's, is a Victorian estate church built by the Thellusson family, owners of Brodsworth Hall, and is one of the four churches within the parish of Bilham, which is in the Sheffield diocese.

This shot has been sitting on my hard drive for almost 4 years, though it was about time it had an airing.

The moon looked so good tonight with the clouds and the halo, I just had to get out and take this. The exposure time was quite long (0.3 sec) and the clouds smeared a bit, which I liked. The focus isn't sharp but I didn't want it to be. Minor adjustments in Photoshop.

Green Township - Pennsylvania

© Igor Borisenko Photography. All Rights Reserved.

Yeah...I finally got a chance to upload something! This was taken a while back during much better times in Pennsylvania as far as the weather goes. I can't remember whether this was taken before the rain or after. I loved the sky since it was pretty dramatic and the sun light was pretty nice and soft. We can't hardly wait until summer anymore since this winter has been pretty brutal. There is a blizzard outside so I went digging through my archives to find something more balmy and this is what I found. I am totally jealous of this dude's property. I know this guy and he has all these acres with this wonderful pond and it's very peaceful around his house. It must be pretty nice to own all this wonderful landscape to yourself.

I have been extremely busy with work because of the tax season and I have been working on many images for various clients. Have a wonderful night or day everyone! Cheers.

You all know how much I love my vibrant, rich colors, but there is just something about this one that lands it firmly in my 'all time favorite' category. There is nothing quite like a real, raw, gritty b&w. I LOVE this.

Stormy looking skies overlooking the sound of Kerrera.

I've been waiting for the bridge to open again since I got it on that foggy morning in March. It's open again tomorrow but this time the boat will be coming in so I'll probably be back again tomorrow as well.

This is of course Tower Bridge, as shot from the 9th floor of the Northern & Shell building on Lower Thames Street.
