Johnny Cash "Ridin' The Rails"
The locomotive featured above is a BNSF running a light engine movement. However, just like Johnny says "that lonesome whistle cutting through the night" is still a sound to be treasured every day and night as the freights roll through the neighbourhood - though now it is a lonesome horn blowing loud. Likewise "it was awfully important that when I waved at the engineer, he waved back at me"....and mostly they still do, including on this occasion : )
I'll add that the locomotive (4650) is actually travelling away from me in this shot.

Clear track ahead. Iowa Interstate Railroad rails. Formerly "Chicago and Rock Island", then "Chicago Rock Island and Pacific". "Rock Island Railroad", "the Rock".
The IT Heritage Unit truly turns onto "Home Rails" having rounded a curve about 1/2 mile back which brought the train onto the alignment of one of the very few remaining segments of original Main Line Illinois Terminal trackage, which it will be on from here to the Mine.

Back to the railway this morning, where I made a further short video of the steam train. I was about twenty minutes early, so practiced flying, manouevering and photographing. I have a long way to go!
I have long had a fascination with railway tracks in images. I think it is the way they hint at a progression and a sense of something "down the tracks", but equally keep one on a path, rather than meandering.
The drone does allow one to view these scenes slightly differently and from another perspective, although here the way ahead is somewhat obscured by the gum.
I was out benching the other day at one of my regular spots, when suddenly I heard a flutter in the bushes next to me. Now, railyards are filled with plenty of wildlife, but you can imagine my surprise when I looked down and saw this little guy. So naturally i followed him around and got a few snapshots of him riding the rails.
