Today the depot is completely devoid of activity and seems to be awaiting demolition, given the advancing state of dereliction and decay here.
Back to Dorridge Station in the rain.
I had hoped for it to be drier in Dorridge, but was a bit too wet. Did find a park before I headed back to the station.
The London Midland service to Dorridge terminates at platform 3. While Chiltern Railways uses platforms 1 and 2 (not all trains stop there). On a Sunday's, the London Midland service to / from Dorridge is one per hour.
The station was built by the Great Western Railway in 1852, on their line from Birmingham to Oxford. In the past, the station was known as Knowle and Dorridge, as it also serves the nearby village of Knowle. Prior to electrification of the former LMS line from London Euston to Birmingham New Street the former GWR London Paddington - Birkenhead Woodside trains passed through the station but did not stop.
The station was renamed from Knowle to Dorridge on 6 May 1974.

A look down at the rails
A pile of old rusty rails lies beside the roadbed of the former B&M Central Mass line in Wayland, MA. This line was always a marginal one, and was slowly abandoned in sections. The segment in Wayland was last used occasionally by freight trains in the early 1980s.
I have a hard time catching the San Joaquin Valley Railroad during the daylight hours despite living in Bakersfield most of my life, they run a nocturnal operation down here which is not a bad thing as the temperatures begin to climb. As I was getting off work this afternoon I managed to hear a conversation between the UP dispatcher 256 and an SJVR job clearing up at Oil Junction. On my way home I decided to investigate and I'm glad I did.
SJVR 3818, the Frisco inspired GP38, leads a string of tanks bound for the Golden Bear Refinery located at the Western edge of the Kern River Oil Field. I have been trying to catch this move since getting back into photography but as luck would have it the crew was at the end of their shift and ended up tying the train down at Seguro.

The Ålgård Line (Ålgårdbanen) is a closed railway line between Ganddal and Ålgård in Rogaland, Norway. It was opened in 1924, and passenger traffic was terminated in 1955. Freight traffic remained until 1988.

Late 17th century altar rails ornamented with simple cherubs at Ravenstone.
St Michael's church at Ravenstone is largely hidden amongst the trees of its leafy churchyard. It is a mainly 14th century building with a short broach spire at the west end and a side aisle only on the south side. There are a couple of elements of ancient carving set into the walls of the porch and aisle.
The church is more likely to be kept locked outside services, but we were given a particularly warm welcome here from the charming ladies looking after the church during the open day.

These rails lead to a bridge that crosses the Youghiogheny River in Connellsville, PA. The railroad no longer crosses and the bridge (and the supports leading to it) are gradually falling apart.
