Atchinson, Topeka & Santa Fe #1534 - 1917 Lounge/Crew Dormitory
"Railroads often adapted older passenger equipment for new uses. Some cars went through three or four configurations during their service lives.
In the pre-streamlined era, the Santa Fe operated a fleet of famous Chicago-California trains, such as the "Chief," the "Scout," and the "De-Luxe." Six older heavyweight standard passenger coaches were rebuilt in the railroad's own shops, each with a lounge area at one end and open sections at the other. During the day, the section's seats were open to passengers enjoying a drink or snack from the lounge; at night, the berths were used by crewmen, who typically worked the entire trip between the Midwest to the West Coast.
ATSF 1534 was retired in 1960, and initially went to a Missouri museum. That museum donated the car to IRM in 1969. The car occasionally operates, but is still under restoration. It is the only surviving car of this type.

I took a few too many photos to "light up" the bike trail with my new GPS tracker.
Taken from a crop of the previous larger frame, this image is just the minimal view of the rails used by the "Light Rail" system in downtown Phoenix. The routes share major city streets. This image was taken in early morning, but the tall buildings cast strong shadows. I don't know the composition of the filler for the roadway between the rails but it must be smooth and sturdy enough to bear the load of cars and trucks. View large to see some of the subtle detail in this color image: it's not a monochrome view.

These rails are AMAZING, I never once had to touch a tool for my entire installation, and the server just glides along them!

Installed new Dell R510 server, labeled all the cables in the rack, added new KVM, and changed OS on LEVIATHAN.
R510 Specs:
Name: CynoGriffon
2 x Intel Xeon E5620 @ 2.4 GHz
24 GB of RAM
8 x 2TB Seagate HDDs totalling 16TB (10TB Usable with RAID-Z 2)
8GB USB Flash drive Running OS
OS: FreeNAS
The R510 is a beautiful server, by far my favorite.
See set description for description of other equipment.
Inspection complete, RCPE 3425 has backed up to pick up the conductor. The sun is mostly in the clear now but at an angle that would be charitably described as challenging. I do rather like how the rails sit right on the flat prairie and cross it straight as an arrow. September 10, 2023.

(Project 365 Day 23)
It's gotta suck to be working on trolley rails in the rain. Went to see Stranger Than Fiction tonight. It was very good, and Emma Thompson was awesome in it as a chain-smoking crazy author.

I have a hard time catching the San Joaquin Valley Railroad during the daylight hours despite living in Bakersfield most of my life, they run a nocturnal operation down here which is not a bad thing as the temperatures begin to climb. As I was getting off work this afternoon I managed to hear a conversation between the UP dispatcher 256 and an SJVR job clearing up at Oil Junction. On my way home I decided to investigate and I'm glad I did.
SJVR 3818, the Frisco inspired GP38, leads a string of tanks bound for the Golden Bear Refinery located at the Western edge of the Kern River Oil Field. I have been trying to catch this move since getting back into photography but as luck would have it the crew was at the end of their shift and ended up tying the train down at Seguro.
