Train halt at Lacey Olympia Station, WA, taken from the last compartment.
When I was living and loving Seattle, I always wanted the experience of traveling in Coast Starlight for a long time. That came true when I got an opportunity to travel from Seattle, WA to Sacramento, CA. It was a great opportunity to experience the great West Coast cities from a unique perspective.
This train operated by Amtrak on the West Coast of the United States runs 1,377 miles (2,216 km) from King Street Station in Seattle, Washington, to Union Station in Los Angeles, California passes thru "Evergreen state" of Washington, snow covered peaks of the Cascade range, Mount Shasta, lush forests and valleys, and ofcourse on the Pacific ocean shoreline. While I have travelled on more memorable train journeys in India before, this one lived up to my expectations.
En route daily between Los Angeles and Seattle, the Coast Starlight train passes through the San Francisco Bay Area, Santa Barbara, Sacramento and Portland. Widely regarded as one of the most spectacular of all train routes, the Coast Starlight links the greatest cities on the West Coast.

The sunset illuminates a set of rails giving them a look as if they were made of gold.
Taken on the tracks behind Steaming Tender Restaurant in downtown Palmer, MA.
This photo was taken during the Palmer, MA gathering for Scott Kelby's Worldwide Photo Walk '09. The 2nd annual" WWPW" was the first year that Palmer has participated in the event and it was a major success. Everyone I spoke to stated they would be back next year
The Chicago & Northwestern Railroad through the 3rd Ward of Milwaukee is a thing of the past. Small reminders of how much of a railroad town Wisconsin’s biggest city used to be still remain in parts around the city, but none more than in this historic part of town. This track was once a spur off CNW’s passenger mainline up the coast of Lake Michigan.
