This is the very first covered gourd bowl that I made. Wayyyyy back when. :D
It is sealed with tung oil.
It is between 7 and 8 inches wide and maybe about 4-5" high, not including the stem. :D

Some of my creations resting on the beautiful cedar canoe of a neighbour. The cherry on the far left was my first paddle I made at the Canadian Canoe Museum workshop; middle two are commercial paddles to which that I added custom artwork; Heron paddle made of yellow poplar on the right.
Dave has used pyrography, or burn etching, to adorn both sides of this large myrtlewood knotting tatting shuttle. This beautiful fiber art tool measures 5 1/4 inches in length, and 1 1/2 inches in width.

This box was given to my great aunt by a friend named Ted Wyness. His initials are on the lid ..... E.C.W. (Edward Clarence Wyness). He was a merchant seaman who travelled along the east coast of Australia and visited my great aunt when in Brisbane.
Whether he made it himself of had it done I don't know but the carving was done by burning the wood, known as Pyrography. Each side has a different image.
"Pyrography or pyrogravure is the art of decorating wood or other materials with burn marks resulting from the controlled application of a heated object such as a poker. It is also known as pokerwork or wood burning."
