Dave has crafted this elegant notched top whorl drop spindle from birdseye maple and cocobolo woods. The 2 3/4 inch birdseye maple whorl features a beautiful pyrographed rose and leaf motif. The cocobolo shaft measures 9 inches below the whorl. The overall length of this one of a kind handspinning tool is 10 1/2 inches. This 1.8 ounce drop spindle also features a brass hook.

I finished burning all the lettering (tengwarring?) and decided the illustration needed something else. I went to look at my Mucha art book for Art Nouveau inspiration and came back to find the cat warming his butt on my piece of wood.
This Tibetan support spindle is approximately 13 inches long and weighs 47g (1.65 ounces). The American Cherry whorl features a pyrographed (burn etched) leaf motif and has been attached to a Brazilian Cherry shaft. Dave has also adorned the shaft with Colorwood, ancient mammoth ivory and a very hard purpleheart tip.

We kayaked to an Arctic Tern rookery on my 2007 Arctic trip so I burned an image of a tern on one end of the blade
