This top whorl silk drop spindle is approximately 8 inches in length, and weighs 1.2 ounces. This spindle is made from Oregon Myrtlewood. A brass hook has been inset in the top. The whorl has been adorned with a beautiful pyrographic design.

The dark stripes in the wood are spalting, a mold in the wood caused by bug spit.

Dave has crafted this elegant notched top whorl drop spindle from birdseye maple and cocobolo woods. The 2 3/4 inch birdseye maple whorl features a beautiful pyrographed rose and leaf motif. The cocobolo shaft measures 9 inches below the whorl. The overall length of this one of a kind handspinning tool is 10 1/2 inches. This 1.8 ounce drop spindle also features a brass hook.

Here's my work in progress gourd art. I've cut the top to make a lid, wood burned a design into the top and bottom and with mussel shells from a local chinese buffet, I've made mosaic insets around the outside just under the lid line.
