As part of spring cleaning, I put together this shoe tree for my mom. When I came in to see her progress, she had already filled the tree completely, but only managed to rack up half of the shoes. I snuck off to upload this pic but she is hovering behind me right now as I type so no more details.
Employees from V-T Group put the light on the Fort Sill Christmas tree Nov. 27, 2009. Picerne Military Housing and Fort Sill will host the post tree lighting ceremony Monday at 5:30 p.m. in front of McNair Hall. The first Holiday Family Fun Fest follows the tree lighting and is free to all who attend the ceremony. Santa Claus will be available for photos. The first 500 families to have their photo taken with Santa will receive a coupon for a free 4-by-6-inch picture. Horse-drawn carriage rides will be available through the Old Post Quadrangle. Mrs. Claus will read a Christmas story. Hot chocolate, holiday treats and Christmas music will be offered for all to enjoy. (Army photo by James Brabenec)

Artist's statement
This week, Nonthando of Cape Argus called me to review le beau Cap hair in relation to the Cape Town hair and beauty show. She put me in connection to Maggie who offered a space at the venue, and the help of Lizel to organise. I decided to summarize all my hair photography experience in a 6 panel wall. Marlon of Orms helped with a few prints and Jo-Anne of Deckle edge with the stationary and suggested to pre-set the exhibit on cardboard rolls matching the exhibition panels. The wall you see is the fruit of our common work.
To sum up my Le beau cap hair experience…
It all started as I realised fine hair details and patterns were as interesting as details of flower cores I was capturing as part of Le beau Cap en couleurs and Namaqualand colours. I started investigating the idea and soon found myself stopping people everywhere in Cape town to capture the beauty of their hair. People were generally surprised as they did not expect their hair any beauty worth capturing. But then when seeing the picture of the beauty I saw in their hair, they were somehow happier… I only captured hair, to limit the importance of face, eyes in the picture and focus on hair beauty for itself, not as as attribute to face.
When Africa International Hair extravaganza offered the opportunity to exhibit, and the portfolio was covered by SA Hair dresser Journal and Estetica Afro, it forced me to summarise a few thousands of images into a few the common themes, that drive our eye to see beauty in hair. Since this experience, my eyes have opened to hair beauty, and I have continued capturing hair beauty. I hope to open your mind to see the beauty in people’s hair as it will change the way you see people, for the better.
In this exhibit, I have taken from my long term themes, eg colours and contrast, simple and complex lines and patterns, resonance with the environment or landscapes. And I have introduced a few new ideas eg inspiration from plants to design hair, Mandela lines creativity, and compare face off images to full body full face ones.
Visitor, I invite you to interact with the exhibit, select your preferred pictures, give them a title, colour the images to create your own hair designs, pick images to decorate your salon. Show your hair in front of Lions head and compete to give the Lion the best head rest … Come and play, be creative and enjoy the show !

Church of Burn - Put your money where your mind is - Sunday 8th Dec 2019 - Annual Ritual Mass Money Burn Event
Church of Burn at the Cockpit is the largest annual Ritual Mass Money Burn Event in the world.
In human history, Ritual Sacrifice has been pivotal in the ordering of economic relations and served to create civilisation, itself. We have forgotten this.
"Money gains strength through our obedience. The more we let ourselves be governed by money, the more power we grant it and the more the vulnerable suffer."
The Church of Burn redefines money and recasts our relationship with it. In Ritual it becomes a powerful sacrament - perhaps the most powerful of all. To burn money is to transgress its logic. It is an experience that is simultaneously, both symbolic and real. The act creates meaning that is accessible only through the doing of it.
This year's event is the most extraordinary and expansive money burning event ever planned.
It's in three parts with a short break between each one:
1. SYNOD - Presentations from activists, academics, artists on 'How we save the world.' Host will be Brett Scott (Activist/Journalist). Speakers - Dan Edelstyn (HSCB) Vinay Gupta (Mattereum) and David Graeber (latest article)
2. SERVICE - Hymns, Confessional, Sermons, Sex Magic Invocation
3. RITUAL - Led by Iron Man Records Patron Jon Harris aka MBG

The land of Varanasi (Kashi) has been the ultimate pilgrimage spot for Hindus for ages. Often referred to as Benares, Varanasi is the oldest living city in the world. These few lines by Mark Twain say it all: "Benaras is older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend and looks twice as old as all of them put together". Hindus believe that one who is graced to die on the land of Varanasi would attain salvation and freedom from the cycle of birth and re-birth. Abode of Lord Shiva and Parvati, the origins of Varanasi are yet unknown. Ganges in Varanasi is believed to have the power to wash away the sins of mortals.
Ganges is said to have its origins in the tresses of Lord Shiva and in Varanasi, it expands to the mighty river that we know of. The city is a center of learning and civilization for over 3000 years. With Sarnath, the place where Buddha preached his first sermon after enlightenment, just 10 km away, Varanasi has been a symbol of Hindu renaissance. Knowledge, philosophy, culture, devotion to Gods, Indian arts and crafts have all flourished here for centuries. Also a pilgrimage place for Jains, Varanasi is believed to be the birthplace of Parsvanath, the twenty-third Tirthankar.
Vaishnavism and Shaivism have co-existed in Varanasi harmoniously. With a number of temples, Mrs. Annie Besant chose Varanasi as the home for her 'Theosophical Society' and Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, to institute 'Benares Hindu University, the biggest University in Asia. Ayurveda is said to be originated at Varanasi and is believed to be the basis of modern medical sciences such as Plastic surgery, Cataract and Calculus operations. Maharshi Patanjali, the preceptor of Ayurveda and Yoga, was also affiliated with Varanasi, the holy city. Varanasi is also famous for its trade and commerce, especially for the finest silks and gold and silver brocades, since the early days.
Varanasi has also been a great center of learning for ages. Varanasi is associated with promotion of spiritualism, mysticism, Sanskrit, yoga and Hindi language and honored authors such as the ever-famous novelist Prem Chand and Tulsi Das, the famous saint-poet who wrote Ram Charit Manas. Aptly called as the cultural capital of India, Varanasi has provided the right platform for all cultural activities to flourish. Many exponents of dance and music have come from Varanasi. Ravi Shankar, the internationally renowned Sitar maestro and Ustad Bismillah Khan, (the famous Shehnai player) are all sons of the blessed city or have lived here for major part of their lives

This was a 5K put on by the San Antonio Road Runners on July 18, 2009 in San Antonio. It was a Women's only 5K. The weather was pleasant after the blistering heat of the last few day and a great run through a beautiful part of San Antonio. Lots of participants of all ages. Sally Rios did a most commendable job as Race Director. I certainly had fun photographing it.
