THIS IS TWO PICTURES I PUT TOGETHER SIDE BY SIDE OF THE SAME CUB BITING THE ELECTRIC WIRE AND RIGHT AFTER HAVING DONE SO. (I know sometimes people don't like to read a long narrative.)

Some lessons have to be learned the hard way. Like in this instance where this cub decided to explore the post and electric wire that surrounds the inflatable jet boat we use to go up and down the river every day.

And as is obvious, this is exactly why there is hot wire around the boat. I'm sure you can imagine what curious and playful bears could do to an inflatable boat, LOL.

So we were standing out in front of our meal hut as a sow and her 3 cubs came up river towards us. Mom was in the water just slowly looking for salmon and her other 2 cubs were off to the right, out of the frame doing what cubs do, just exploring and doing cub business.

So this little guy decides to check out the post and wire as Tim, Dana and I just watched him with slight amusement saying "OK, don't do it little buddy, don't do it."

But as soon as those words came out of our mouths, you got it, he did it.

He bit the wire and then of course got zapped.

I decided to put these two pictures side by side together like this because most of the time no one really looks at the picture when I put one in the first comment box below. So I did it this way instead.

Tim, Dana and I were laughing pretty hard at this poor little guy's expense but you can be sure he won't be doing this again.

There are some things mamas can't teach their babies and they have to learn on their own, the hard way.

Civil Twilight at North Point on Crow's Nest Mountain.

I was late on arrival for golden hour light, but the sky certainly put on a show once the sun went down. The vegetation had filled in from early spring when I was last there, but such a great spot with endless opportunity for compositions.

Was driving down a gravel road and seen a Porcupine waddling along the side. I got out of the car and walked towards the little fella and stopped maybe 50 yards away and squatted down and waited. It took about 10 minutes, but the Porcupine finally waddled close to me.

In this shot, the Porcupine finally noticed me, quills bared as the guard hare is retracted. After the Porcupine decided I was not a threat, it put it's guard hair back down and waddled on by.

This is the last time these spiny cacti are in bloom in my yard. I will replace them with spineless Opuntia so I can weed around them. With the spiny ones I do not dare to put my hand, even covered with a thick glove, among them.

Put my camera at my window on interval shooting mode since lightning started just after the sun had set. Until the night sky had totally calmed down at about 9pm, I checked my playback. Here is the only ONE out of the over three hundred photographs in my memory card that stood out. 😀

Lightning night on 7th Jan 2022

I put up a picture of this as a line art sketch a while ago. Since then, it's been sitting on my drawing table and I decided to add a sunflower and color it to go with the new little series of butterflies and sunflowers. Seems a lot more finished now.

Update: Somehow managed to lose this in my studio before getting it into the frame I made for it... Glad I photographed it and posted it here!

As you might have seen already I've built a few warships in the past. But for me those ones weren't good enough which is why I of course had to build another one. The main change I did was making the size a little bigger. Both the lower red part, the grey section and the buildings on top are higher now, which was definitely a good decision. The only thing that's bothering me is that in my opinion the back part is to short compared to the rest of the ship.

But overall I'm quite happy with how this ship turned out. Let me know what you think about the build and how I could improve it!

I put some soaked raisins out for the blackbird and thrush, which normally come in before dusk. However, this nursing vixen got there first, followed by another vixen shortly afterwards. Unusual to see them in the daylight.

The 'Put van Broekhoven' is a artificial lake, which is created when the site was excavated. The sand from the well was used to build the nearby A12 highway. The well lies in the Weijpoortse polder, and the mill is therefore named the Weijpoortste mill. It is a water-wip-mill, dated 1674. It drained the polder until 1975. It is now not longer in use, but under control of the Rijnlandse Molenstichting, a foundation that preserves all the Rijnland-mills (mills situated in the Rijnland-water board).

I am asked this question frequently. I put in my time researching on line information shared by other people interested in birds. One of the best local ones is the Fraser Valley Birding Forum Group and Ebird is the best one going for locations and sightings around the world. I occasionally get and give information to locals I know. I also just get out there and look and listen as best I can with old ears and eyes.

There are a lot of birds out there and you just need to put in your time. The more prep you put in the better your chances. Of course dumb luck is not to be discounted!

Courting male Lark Sparrows put on a dance that lasts for up to 5 minutes. The dance starts with the male hopping, then spreading his tail and drooping his wings so that they nearly touch the ground, almost like a turkey strutting. (Cornell)

This Lark Sparrow was part of a small flock foraging for seeds and insects.

I try to put on a happy face a lot, even if things bother me deep down. I don't ever want to be viewed as the negative one or the one that complains. I want to be the happy one, the inspiring one. Sometimes things happen, whether they happen for a reason or not is irrelevant because they just happen. We plot out our lives, we try to hold onto our dreams what we aspire to be. We get pushed down, tripped, falling forever in this game that we play called life. We try to hold onto the positive to keep us going but sometimes we slip. We fall down a rabbit hole but Wonderland is not always at the end.

Today, I had to close a chapter in my life. A chapter as much as I wanted to be ready to close I wasn't ready. I'm scared, probably more scared then I have ever been in my life. I keep holding onto the fact that I love magic and fairy tales and trying to find some ounce of happiness but instead I just feel this pit in my stomach. This pit that won't go away and it's just filled with so much emotion that I'm not allowing myself to feel. I'm sad, I'm scared, I'm so many things but if you looked at me you would think hey she's fine but honestly right now I'm really not. I feel... off. Not ready, not ready to play life again.

I have to look around and remind myself that I have so much to be thankful for, for the few things in life that pick me up and tell myself to keep going and eventually yes, I'll be okay. I'll prevail, I'm strong I can do this. So many things I have to repeat in my head over and over again to tell myself that I'm strong. I can do this. I can do anything that I put my mind to. As Walt Disney once said; "If you can dream it, you can do it." I dream it. I dream it every day of my life and now I just for once, need some good karma, something good to happen. Something, anything. I don't want to fade.

And with that a chapter closes, another chapter that seemed too short, unfinished but we push on and write a new chapter. Now to just pick myself back up and start that new one.

I have put loads of effort into prospective local Barn Owl locations over the past few months. Trying several different locations, sittng waiting for hours all for no reward. In all honesty, it can get quite disheartening.

That all changed a few days ago, with a Barn Owl at a new location, that came out and was quartering up and down past my location. This was up there as one of the best willdife encounters I have had, This bird was hunting within 20ft of me at one stage, it actually came too close for pictures.

Absolutely incredible. Just needed some sunshine.

I always feel rather sad when I have to put away the Christmas decorations but onward into the new year I must go! have a great day, everyone!
