Mission Statement
Countless dogs are without homes and in need of assistance. These are dogs who would make wonderful and faithful companions if only they could connect with the right person or family. We have made it our mission to help them do this. At the same time we hope to enrich the lives of those who adopt them.
Animals are a strange thing in Cape Verde. The people, especially the kids, don't think twice about inflicting cruelty on animals for no apparent reason. The concept of an animal having the elevated status we know of as "pet" is totally foreign. Dogs generally behave cautiously toward humans during the day, then turn hostile when it gets dark, which can sometimes be a problem. Andrew hit on a strategy for this pretty early on.
This is pup-pup. We gave him food and a name (asking a dog's name is a bizarre question for any Cape Verdean), and generally acted friendly toward him. He appears to be only a few months old, so he still naturally craves affection, and befriending him was the easiest thing I've had to do here. They don't make 'em much dumber than pup-pup, but he's got loyalty, and makes a good escort to keep the other dogs away when walking around the village at night.
9 little babies and their mommy came in to the shelter on Wednesday. They are about 6 weeks. These are 3 of the girls and 1 of the boys.
This is our Buckley Mountain Feist pup Omega at 9 months old getting his 1st look at a squirrel in the training tube. Normally we have them going good before his age but because the lack of mast last year our squirrels moved out. We are now starting to get a few back and with luck and a heavy mast crop this year we can get him in on lots of hunts on wild squirrels letting the natural instincts bred into him come out.
He is out of Aqua X Tax and is the litter brofe the ones all the guys picked up this week end. I think he may hate a squack. This was right during the heat of the day and he treed on it over 3 min. without letting up. Watch the video.

The pup's just ventured out today for the first time. They had a ball. They eat twice today and loved it. Their only 27 day's old.
When we got there Father he would want to smell each kind of thing, then he would leave them alone. The ducks and chickens never cared for that too much so he would hold them down with his foot and smell them all over then let them go without any harm but to their dignity. He would try that with the guineas but they would fly so one day I was close enough to catch him by the back of the neck and push his head down and told him “No” and I have never seen him do that again. The pups are just seeing what belongs here, and are more interested in what they leave behind.
Bosse was born 12 years ago as 2nd pup of a litter of 3 male basenjis at our breeder's home in Sindelfingen, South Germany. His mother Antari had to do her outside business after the first pup was born and just on the way back on the staircase our Bosse fell...in to this life!
Once pups “volunteered”, we tagged and weighed ‘em in less than minute so they could quickly get back to their buddies and keep cruising the beach (and waiting for Mom).

This pupal exuvium was originally sticking up out of the soil. This was after I had extricated it and placed it on soil surface.

Our new pup! He is a four month old German Shorthaired Pointer with a full tail. We named him Seeger (after Pete Seeger). He is a rowdy little guy!
Pupal mating Heliconius butterflies don't wait 'til she's older: they mate with the female while she's still inside the pupa. Read about it at Wild Tropics:

I'm pretty sure this pup's name was Bentley. I got my puppy fix on petting his belly for a few minutes while in Punxsutawney this past weekend. I love going to new places and taking photos and walking around, but DAYUM I miss my dogs when I'm away from them.
