Our meerkat mob is growing!
Motherhood must have agreed with our female meerkat, Penelope, because one litter born on June 28 just wasn’t enough! On September 15, she successfully added three more meerkat pups to the growing mob (that’s what a group of meerkats is called).
People United for Pets is an all volunteer, 501(c)(3) registered non-profit organization specializing in small and toy breed dog rescue. We are located in Western Washington State.
Mission Statement
Countless dogs are without homes and in need of assistance. These are dogs who would make wonderful and faithful companions if only they could connect with the right person or family. We have made it our mission to help them do this. At the same time we hope to enrich the lives of those who adopt them.
5/8/09: Today, 14 three week old pups were found in abandoned in an empty field near Patricia/W. Genie St, Chalmette 70043. Turned out that they were from two litters and their moms were nowhere to be seen. We called them the "Orphan Pups" (OP). A call went out for fosters who could care for these little orphans until they got big and strong enough to go to their forever families and all went to fosters. They're sweet as pie and got real strong and healthy and are no all set to go to their forever homes.
8/29/09: Only Toby is left waiting for his forever hoem. Though he was at the Shelter for a few weeks, he's very happy to be back with their fosters! He's learned his inside manners, gets along with dogs and cats, love s us humans, loves to play, and absolutely loves to cuddle when he gets all pooped out!
This is me, Toby when I realized that there's a whole big wonderful world out there!

Got lucky yesterday and wandered by Mormon Row in Grand Teton NP when a couple of coyote pups were exploring around outside their den underneath one of the old buildings there.
The pup and I had a great afternoon of exploring downtown manteo at the waterfront. This was the point where he decided he needed a rest :) He was a big hit with everyone we saw...although this is the second time someone asked if he was a keeshond...*irritated face*
The trainers are slowly teaching Kitchi how to do the log jump on the stage. We are at an early stage here - rewarding him for putting his paws on top of one of the logs.

Once the pups get out of their bed, they progress to an airer. The airer has a hammock, a couple of my shirts (for comfort), toys, food, water and other things to play with. The girls have some friends living here now, Poppy and Murray.
I try to get them flowers each day - today I mostly got lemon scented teatree (for want of anything much else being available) thinking they would not like it but the loris would go nuts for it tomorrow. I was wrong about the bats not liking it.
ok.. so they are no longer little wee puppies. but that is what i call them most of the time. we have quite a few other names for them.. but i won't go there now.
taken about a week ago.. the afternoon sun shining in our office was just perfect. i think joe was making some strange noises out in the yard... and they just weren't sure what to think of it. they dashed out there soon after this was taken.
have quite a few photos to sort through from our little vacation. i at least got them on the computer this evening. will sort through them tomorrow.
