A large onion, carved so that it opened up like a flower, lightly battered and then deep-fried, the core removed after, and served with ranch dressing. Very good!

Okay, it did turn out, but I'm only giving myself a C- as it has plenty of room for improvement the next time I make it. At least I have a fair idea of what to change. Rub and sauce were fine ... cooking temperature is what needs to improve.
I was waiting in a long line at Pecan Lodge a couple years ago when the guy next to me made me promise to try Hutchins BBQ in McKinney, about 30 miles north of Dallas. Every single thing I tried was amazing from the brisket to the complimentary desserts. Possibly the best pulled pork Ive ever had and the brisket is definitely top 5.

This lovely site is the work of Lorna Yee, the author of the new blog, The Cookbook Chronicles.
She's lovely and kind and charming and smart and a whole host of other adjectives I could use.
She also made us this pulled pork.
We love her.
Parsnips with maple - sounds Ok but I want to know how is the maple served. To you have to gnaw on it - or is it already chopped up. Gives new meaning to the term "woody taste". I think I will go with the pulled pork instead.
