I observed folks jumping over this giant puddle in Union Square. It was interesting to see each person's reaction on how to keep their feet dry.
Even with rainboots on, this person decided to jump.
This is a very aged and well played with Fisher Price Mickey Mouse Puddle Jumper pull toy. The pull toy is from 1954. I went through a phase of collecting antique toys.

My Submission for 52 Frames theme of Puddle, this is inspired by my recent one which Shirley suggested I flipped. An oak tree with a leaf added for effect.
Very close to my previous puddle one, but not the same one.
She figured the rocks went swimming, why couldn't she go swimming too? So she sat right down in the puddle. As soon as she realized that it wasn't warm bath water, she stood up real fast, haha.

This Summer has been very wet, and everybody thought I was having the time of my life, shooting all those billions of puddles everywhere...well, I hate to spoil it for those thinking about me whenever they heard the rain tinkling against their windows, but I suffered as much as the next person from this nightmare of a so-called season. Every day I would wake up, hopefully pull open my curtains, and fall back into my bed with a sigh, inflicted by the never-changing gray sky and dark clouds hovering above the best city in the world. So I'd like to take this chance to appeal to the weather Gods: Please, no more! Ever again another 'Summer' like this one! Pleeeeease! Thank you, sincerely yours, AmsterSam :)
Have a good start into the new week!
I've made a wicked reflection movie of this puddle as well, watch it on my YouTube channel, thank you :)
Crystal Franks and I have plans to take our little girls out puddle jumping (we've been waiting for a good rain for months and finally we got one!), so today I wanted to "test the waters" (pun intended) before the real shoot. Hopefully it works out to shoot them tomorrow!
Location: Peninsular Malaysia
Length: Less than 3 cm
Habitat: Puddle of water, from lowland to slightly higher elevation.
Variation: Some individuals may have a thick light stripe down the dorsum (Inger and Stuebing 2005) while some don't.
Laurel jumping in the puddle. (My digital camera has about a second delay between pressing the shutter and the photo being captured, so any amazing action shots aren't fully intentional. I just shoot a lot and hope for a few great images.)
still a bit of water lying around from the winter rains, but scary how quick the water is draining away

A portrait, from the knee down, of every free-spirited kid who wants to splash in puddles large and small. However, I was inspired by my daughter who is just starting to figure out stuff like this.
About 2 weeks ago, the power went out at night, just as B was finishing up on the potty. It was very dramatic because we had lots of lights on while we were getting ready for bed, along with the noisy air conditioner. Really suddenly, it was extremely dark and quiet, except for the sound of thunder and crazy wind. B was a little freaked out & it didn't help that the window in the bathroom was open, so the thunder, punctuated by random lightning flashes, was especially loud while the wind blew the curtain so hard that it was horizontal.
Just when your 3 year old is getting comfortable with the potty situation is not such a great time for such weather drama - well, that's what I thought anyway, but it didn't seem to affect him in that way at all, thank goodness.
We were able to calm him down with our stash of crank-operated flash lights and my laptop, which had plenty of battery power. It didn't take long for him to settle into bed and fall asleep.
Since that night, B has been telling everyone he sees, "The power went out!" It really had an impact on him, apparently.
Today there were lots of scattered storms, though there wasn't really any thunder or lightning as far as we could see, just a lot of wind and rain.
At noon, the power went out for a split second - long enough for the lights to turn off and then come right back on again. B was once again completely wowed by it and proclaimed that "The power went out and I couldn't see the puzzle!" which I'm sure he'll be telling everyone even though, despite the cloudiness, it was still noontime and there was plenty of daylight.
After the first couple storms, it was muggy, but by the end of the day, the wind brought through some cool air. D brought the boys outside to stomp in the puddles.
Bisnonno has the best puddles among the 3 houses, so the boys played in those for a little bit, and then moved on to helping my dad wash his truck and then playing with some huge bubble wands with my parents.
My pic of the day is B running through my favorite puddle in Bisnonno's driveway. It's the biggest puddle, and I still remember playing in it when I was B's age.
Playing with tone mapping. This is 3 photos, each with different exposures. Blended using photomatix.
I am a child no more, my face is lined,
And streaks of silver in my hair appear.
Sometimes I look so young I cannot find
My age into my story and my years.
When I wake up I don’t know who I am
My mirror shows a face I do not see.
I hide behind an easy theorem:
That is - as I would mean - I disagree.
The footpath after rain reflects a girl
That was me, jumping puddles, her shoes sogged.
I stop and watch: the surface bears a pearl
That’s a bubble of air, spit by a frog.
But if my lips would touch the amphibian’s shiny skin,
Will a jade veil conceal me, and would I turn to green?

I wonder if someone will recognize one of the lines, inspired by a song.
A very famous one.

I can never get enough of the looks people shoot my way when I'm doing my wicked puddle thing, they just can not wrap their minds around the fact that there's a grown man sitting next to a puddle, pointing his camera to the ground, and that's a good thing, because it allows me to capture their irritated, unbelieving, surprised and often amused faces in the water. What always amazes me is that they're actually looking into the puddle, and not at me, because then you'd see them looking up, and not down...so thank you puddle people, your assistance in the making of these wicked shots is more than appreciated, too bad you're always biking by so fast, otherwise I'd thank you in person, lol :)
I've also shot a wicked reflection movie of this puddle, check it out on my YouTube channel, thank you :)

We introduced Red to one of our favorite past times today. Puddle Jumping, cheesy, yeah I know. I live in Oregon people. You have to make the rain fun somehow.
