Spring has finally arrived in Saskatchewan, and with it we have some great puddles in the park. Saturday evening saw a family trip to the park to go puddle hunting. Of course I planned the trip for one hour before sunset and wanted the puddle with good backlighting. My wife was working, so it was only my kids and myself to work with Eva.
My six year old daughter Julia was handling Eva for this photo in one of the better puddles. Eva was on lead (cloned out in photoshop) and showed her hunting instincts striking a pointing pose for the photo. Although one might think she was pointing toward some water fowl, it was actually a golden doodle walking on the path about 40 feet away. She's a social little pup. I'm so impressed that Julia managed to handle her so well in the middle of a puddle with other dogs walking around.
In case anyone is wondering, the material in the puddle is slushy ice, expertly broken up by my kids in their rubber boots.
It's amazing, the things you find at Dolly Sods Wilderness. After an amazing day of sudden storms, rainbows and crazy clouds, the sun finally set in a peaceful manner with plenty of simple color. Here we see one of the natural puddles on Bear Rocks Preserves within Dolly Sods Wilderness near Petersburg, West Virginia.
There are plenty of non-threatening bees and other insects that gather around the natural puddles.

I was hanging out around this puddle when a tram arrived and spat out its passenger-load on the other side of the street, a big mob approached and tried to figure out what I was doing, unaware of the fact that I in return kept shooting them, making them part of this ongoing wicked reflection project, turning them into artsy puddle people in the process...I think it was a win-win situation, they got to look at a madman waving his cam at a wet spot, I got to (ab)use them for my Flickr stream, hehe :)
This weekend the lovely Miss Monyart and myself are hosting our photo exhibition called 'Girls! Girls! Girls!' at the ABC Treehouse again, Saturday and Sunday, from 13:00 - 18:00, come and visit us. The gallery is also open on Fridays, if you can't make it in the weekend, but we won't be there :)

I tried my hand at sewing because I find it hard to find clothes which would fit Dals. It took me about 3 hours just to finish this dress.. Hahaha! (⌒-⌒; )

Cattle puddled this corner of a field making a watering-hole for this Small White.This is near to where I saw the swallows but they have flown.
A puddling Yellow Tiger Swallowtail sips moisture from an almost dry streambed. The process is called puddling and butterflies do it in an effort to extract needed minerals from the water they are sipping. Unlike sipping nectar from flowers butterflies that are puddling are sipping/ gulping a larger quantity of moisture which can often be seen dripping at a steady rate from the back end of the butterfly.
After an intense desert storm today puddles and flooded land were everywhere...a rare sight in such a dry area.
It's a lot of fun to walk around and look at everyone's dolls. I enjoy seeing how people customize them. But it's also neat to see some of the rarer dolls or brand new ones in person.
A reflecting puddle in my neighborhood between showers on what was, as you can see, a very grey day. The same day, as well as since, I took other puddle shots, but the water wasn't clean like uptown, and the reflection was muddled, the image reflective anything but pristine. Taken five weeks ago, this tree still had its wintry bareness, but is now covered in green, leafy finery...
Looking at this later, I realized that the puddle had the shape of a profile, upside-down. It took me years to realize it... Amazing!!!
