Lots of puddle-jumping weather in NYC this fall. Wish we could send it to California.

Puddle Jumping

Extra Info:

It has been raining sooooo much here lately. I know we get a lot of rain, but even for here, it was quite a lot. The funny story behind this was that the sun kept peeking out while I was trying to do this shot.

At least the recent rain provided an opportunity to get my first reflection for the latest studio 26 assignment!

The sun was out, the rain was falling and I was standing at the side of a road taking photos of a puddle...

The reflection of passers-by and a building in a puddle near the University of Bologna.

Bologna, Italy, 2018

Spent a little time playing in the puddles this evening. Due to the lack of rain, we haven't had a chance to do this all summer. As they walked through the door, soaking wet, my daughter exclaimed, "this is the best day ever!"

And I think this might be one of my all-time favorite photos of the three of them. It's going to be printed large!

Pale swallowtails and short-tailed swallowtails mingle at the muddy edge of an ephemeral pool. I came across this abandoned cattle pond last year and found four species of swallowtails plus a variety of blues. On this day, none was abundant, but I noticed nine species of butterflies.

Butterflies "puddle" or drink from drying mud to extract salts, minerals and proteins. So an abandoned cattle pond may be a disgusting eye sore to some people, but it is a cornucopia to butterflies and a handy lure for photographers.

Big drops of rain fall from a tree into a shallow puddle below. Sometimes when they strike the water, bubbles form.

Sandbanks

The peninsular of Sandbanks is one of the expensive places in the world to buy a property. But how did this piece of headland get to be so exclusive?

Poole Harbour is the second largest natural harbour in the world.

Much of the harbour is incredibly shallow meaning that ferries have to negotiate specially dredged channels.

Last Friday there was a break in the bad weather with some sunshine and blue skies. I grabbed the camera and headed out to Ardington - a local village - for a walk around. The rain here in South Oxfordshire has been pretty bad this year, and I found a good part of the village subject to large puddles. In some cases, road-sized puddles. A large number of properties had small lakes in their gardens. I see from the weather forecast that we are due more storms this week, especially on Friday, when the worst one yet is due to 'hit'. I'm very thankful that our house is nowhere near local waterways.

Sandals, puddles, good times!

Helping out by making some bags for Puddle! I am excited, since I'm actually attending this year! :D

Stayed up till 3AM working on these but I wanted to have these set up for the weekend. I have lots to do! n___n

I hope some of these are slightly recognizable. I had to change what I was doing at least 3 times. Then I started to just draw .... just do it!

The clouds make it very clear where those puddles high up in the Norwegian mountains come from.

See more from Norway here.
