Stumbled upon this protest in Westminster today. I had gone for the General Inspection of Changing of the Guard but never got past this unreconstructed facet of the labour movement with its dinosaurs (Corbyn, Abbott) hairy bearded older gents (and ladies too) Although as a disabled pensioner I empathise.

The court on Thursday ruled that the Islamist-led Parliament must be immediately dissolved, while also blessing the right of ousted former President Hosni Mubarak's last prime minister, Shafiq, to run for president, escalating a battle for power between the remnants of the toppled order and rising Islamists. Thousands of protesters marched through downtown Chicago on Sunday in one of the city's largest demonstrations in years, airing grievances about war, climate change and a wide range of other complaints as world leaders assembled for a NATO summit.

The protest, which for months had stirred worries about violence in the streets, drew together a broad assortment of participants, including peace activists joining with war veterans and people more focused on economic inequality.

Hundreds of protesters gathered late Sunday night near the Art Institute of Chicago as first lady Michelle Obama hosted a dinner for spouses of NATO leaders inside. At least 100 Chicago police officers in riot gear were also at the scene.

Over 60 students, professors and community members held a protest rally outside US Senator Dave McCormick's Philadelphia office on Nov. 7.

The members of progressive groups and labor unions, alongside PA State Representative Rick Krajewski and Philadelphia City Council member Nicolas O'Rourke, were part of a nationwide day of coordinated protests at over 100 US locations, aiming to “organize millions of students to disrupt business as usual and force our schools and our political system to finally work for us” instead of billionaires.

Planned by Students Rise Up, in coordination with the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) and Higher Education Labor United (HELU), the demonstrations were "the first in a series of nationwide days of protests leading up to student strikes and worker actions on May Day 2026, according to national organizers.

In addition to the unions, national groups backing the effort include Campus Climate Network, College Democrats of America, Gen-Z for Change, Indivisible, Jewish Voice for Peace, March for Our Lives, and Sunrise Movement, whose executive director, Aru Shiney-Ajay, stressed in a Tuesday statement that “everyone deserves an accessible, affordable, and quality education.”
