Deep Depth of Field

Intention- I wanted to capture the maximum depth of field of a river scene using a high aperture.

Reference to the reading- Freeman states that "shorter focal lengths give images with better depth of field" which can be seen in the sharpness of the photo.

Outcome- All aspects of the image are in focus including the foreground, the mid ground, and the background.

Edits- A cooling filter was added as well as an increase of saturation to make the colors look more rich.

My contemporary photographer was Annie Leibovitz. Her work is not available as a collection online, but you can check out "Women" through ILL or from the Squirrel Hill library. "Women" is a collection of women from all walks of life. The shots I enjoy the most are the ones of everyday, normal women whose lives were in some way represented in each shot. Dr. Johnson is a botanist and self-proclaimed plant nerd. The greenhouse was the most telling background for this shot. I encouraged her to discuss the plants as if she were teaching me to get just the right body language and expression as I didn't want a portrait feel. I opted to go b&w for this shot to emphasize the sunlight streaming through the windows as well as to fully appreciate the different shapes and textures of the flora in the building.

I was bound by not wanting to be disruptive of the lab environment in moving things around, but if I could have carte blanche to do what I wanted I might surround Dr. Johnson with more of the plants. Also, I was told that I could only check out a specific type of tripod from the studio and it was not as tall as I'd have preferred to work with so I was limited in how I could set up the shot.

Another shot of my custom lego figure. I just love the way he looks.

Captured @ 10:02 AM

Intent: Focus on the top of the plant stem. I really liked the circular shapes made by the pot, leaves and plant base.

This photo was taken to demonstrate a shallow depth of field using f/1.8. I learned about extreme framing in Freeman's book and used the concept here. The layout of the image makes me feel like I'm waiting for someone to come back and pick up the brush. I used Lightroom to bump up the exposure and convert the photo to black and white.

System# 2: Reduce the volume of the sleeves and fit the body.

System# 3: Change the pants leg to fit different thickness of the leg -shorts, slim pants, baggy pants.

System# 4: Fold the skirt on the pants to change the waist.

I decided to use simple line and doughnut graph to present my data as I think it is the most effective way for the viewer to see what I try to show

I Wanted to capture the Movement of the clear vinyl as well as the stillness of the needle.

my intentions with this image was to show how i felt as a child trying to figure myself out, as well as my style as an artist but not being able to because of fear of disappointing my parents if i created something unorthodox, and intern lost myself both emotionally and as an artist.

Removed blemishes and smoothed skin. Added contrast and sharped her eyes. Made the eye brows fuller. Smoothed and added a little color to the lips.

The opposite of my panning shot; nature and the grade crossing in focus, WMSR 1309 blurred. Also doubles as an extra DOF shot with how high the Aperture needed to be to get a decent shutter speed. I'm standing uphill of the engine, with the bike path, mainline, and rest of the hill below me. Again would like the sky to be a bit bluer but that's what overcast shooting will do to ya.
