Light is very important, and so is time. Every time I get a chance to go out and shoot the light is rarely on my side. This is one of those times, enter Adobe Lightroom.

Tower B-17 Elmhurst, where there are new obnoxious loudspeakers that simulate air horn sounds, in place of the traditional bells or crossing sounders. I think the searchlights' days are numbered.

Morning sunshine pours through the kitchen windows and on to the bench. "Dadda...tits" (as embarrassing as this is when in public, I know she means toast)...the process begins.

Bread lowers into the toaster, the sound of heating elements drowned out by her pleading to be lifted up on the bench. This is her bench. It’s kept clear for cooking as much as there’s room for her.

Flicking through the "Secret to good macaroons", also known as 'bibbies (bickys/biscuit) book' in as much a morning ritual for her as coffee is to her parents.

Watching her read/babble to herself while turning page to page, I soak in every detail. Her once loose sleep suit, now well filled and the way her toes curl when she turns each page. Her tongue flicks her teeth, battling with words but it's her hair that holds my attention.

Curls at the back and straight on top, a combination not often seen. A fountain pony, a whimsical alternative, not by choice but determined by the length of her fringe. Her hair is not yet done, but to her father, it's already perfect...oh to have such complete freedom with your appearance.

The sound of toast popping cannot be described but her reaction can be. It’s pure excitement. The book, previous tenderly held is thrown aside like yesterdays news as cries of "Tits, tits" compete with clapping hands. Breakfast almost ready .A humble piece of toast carried across the kitchen to the two-year-old equivalent of trumpet fanfare.

Butter applied then Vegemite, a classic combination. Breakfast has arrived.

A morning performance, each player essential in their roles. Her smile tells me this process come ritual is no longer business but everyday play.

Natural light for once

Pillow made for a gift. Blogged

I had a great day today. I had a fair-size list of things that I wanted to get done today and managed to get them all (and a few others) done.

Onlookers often wonder why I put so much effort into some of the things I do. Sometimes I enjoy the process as much as I enjoy the finished product.

What you're seeing here is the slow-poaching method from David Chang's Momofuku. Essentially; slow-cooked in their shells, when cracked, are a perfectly poached egg with incredible textures and flavor.

I think eggs are so incredible. They are quite simple in appearance but are quite impressive when you start to break it down chemically.

When I get them right, the outer white is soft and creamy. The best part is the yolk when it becomes a gel. I find the yolk to be the best part about a cooked egg. When that golden yellow nucleus of of joy turns to gel and becomes spreadable, toast becomes a prized commodity.

The thing I like the best about this shot is how the water distorts the view of the eggs. In this case it actually makes them easier to see. That is what made me pick up my camera and get this shot.

This is actually two tutorials in one. Learn how to mute the colors of an image, yet retain a pleasing effect. Next learn to cross process the image. The tutorial is here:

I thought I'd post a "before and after". This is Kodak Ektachrome Tungsten 160, expired in 1978, cross processed. I've used a couple of rolls of this in various cameras and under different lighting conditions. I like these results best so far. In daylight it skewed purple: www.flickr.com/photos/graustark/2499607920/

If you look at the just-scanned version, you can see it started out very red.

I have replaced the image with a brighter one. The first image looked ok on my screen but was way too dark on all other screens...

Delaunay triangulated self-portrait. Triangulation made with this, fills made by modified algorithm of stripes series, and some post-processing made with ps.

No quería enseñarla hasta que estubiese más avanzada, pero al final no me he podido aguantar ^3^

Esta es la nueva cabeza para Jiza, más realista y acorde con mis demás muñecos.

I am going to rescan my other Holga shots...my scanner is very dusty. My last two rolls were from February and the end of the school year...I've been a lazy Holga user.
