Continuity principles of vectors apply to screen space and off-screen space; they assist in instituting a vital part of the audiences psychological map. Continuing index vectors are continuity elements that point in the same direction. Converging vectors point toward one another. Diverging vectors point in conflicting directions. (This is an example of converging vectors because the two girls in the photo are looking toward one another.)
"Emily remembers the first time she met her grand-little, Dori Evans. She was so happy they became so close this past year."
Yes, you guessed right, that really is me on the left. That was still in the old millennium.
The decorated gentleman on the right is Giorgio Carbone, a.k.a Sua Tremendità Giorgio I, Prince of Seborga.
"Prince of what??"
Allow me to explain:
The story of the Principality of Seborga is quite a curious one, which Sua Tremendità Giorgio I is happy to explain at great length and with vivid passion to at first mildly interested and eventually increasingly amused and spellbound visitors to the lovely Ligurian village of Seborga over a lovely bottle (or two, or three) of wine and a hearty dish of pasta.
Those of you who are willing to invest half of your lunch break shall feel encouraged to read a quite clever and delightful (read: very British) travel report on Seborga by Anthony Peregrine which appeared in the Telegraph in 1999.
And since my family happens to be acquainted with his family, we visited Seborga a few times on the occasion of our trips to Italy. It was always a lot of fun.
I highly recommend that you do so, too.

The great thing about the beach is that it presents an entirely different universe from season to season, from day to day, from hour to hour, from second to second, with the ever changing wind, tides, clouds, and sun. A split second with tumbling surf and a sinking sun can make a vast different, resulting in entirely different photographs.

avoid idleness, profanity, and falsehood, and to instruct them in the principles of free government, and to train them up to a true comprehension of the rights, duties, and dignity of American citizenship."
There is no free trade measure that will ever lower the price of brains; there is no california of common sense. Brain power must be so developed as to give the boy and girl perseverance, and courage and even experience, to attempt to master what he undertakes. We have no right to send a pupil out into life's school so that often he will be searching amid the rafters of his brain either for unmastered principle, or bare unrelated fact scattered upon their school atmosphere like chaff before the whirlwind. But it is the business of the school to know where he is, step by step, as he goes along, so that at the end of his school days real mastery may be his stamp of scholarship. Strengthen the pupil's power of work, perseverance and observation at every possible point!
"Life should be full of earnest work,
Our hearts undashed by fortune's
frown; Let perseverance conquer fate,
And merit size the victor's crown;
The battle is not to the strong,
The race is not always to the fleet,
And he who seeks to pluck the stars
Will loose the jewels at his feet."
We as teachers cannot feel too strongly our sense of duty. If mere book learning were the only education many could soon become Proficient, but there is more than this. If the school has given or is giving your children at least the elements of an education, has taught them industry, thrift and economy, and trains them in some honorable trade or business in which they cannot only make a good living but can lay by a competency for days of misfortune and old age, it gives them the legacy they need. If it fails to do these things it largely fails in its mission.
Let us all join hand in hand to make the Byesville schools mean success to every boy and girl who goes out from the sphere of her influence. May we see their prosperity ever keep pace with her material growth and numerical accession, Shall we all join in the development of the best possible citizens for our future town, state and republic, believing with the poet:
“Ye who love the Republic, remember
the claim Ye owe to her fortune, ye owe to her
fame, To her years of prosperity, past and in
store, The hundreds behind you, the thou
sands before. ‘Tis the school house that stands by the
flag, Let the Nation stand by the school, ‘Tis the school-bell that rings for our
liberty old, ‘Tis the school-boy whose ballot shall
rule. The blue arch above us is liberty's
dome, The green fields beneath us, equality's
home; The school-house to-day is humanity's
friend, Let the people the flag and the schoolhouse defend."

The “I Am for Peace” Premiere was a huge success. Nearly 200 people came out to Lacuna Artist Lofts located in Pilsen to learn how the 26 principles of A Disciplined Life can help create a more peaceful Chicago.
The world debut of the documentary film that showcases the students of Perspectives using the principles of A Disciplined Life to lead the movement “I Am for Peace,” was the focus of the program. The night was emceed by FM Supreme and special guests included student leaders, Maurice Young, Janeya Cunningham, and Razia Hutchins, all seniors at Perspectives, president and founder of Perspectives Diana Shulla-Cose, CEO of Perspectives Rhonda Hopps, and the director Matt Wechsler.
Attendees were able to interact with 25 students from Perspectives who were presenting their solutions to the question “If I were the mayor of Chicago, how would I use the 26 principles of A Disciplined Life to create a more peaceful Chicago?” The design challenge was facilitated by Perspectives teachers and they helped the students work through the phases of design thinking: 1) Define; 2) Explore; 3) Reflect; 4) Imagine; 5) Play; and 6) Transform, to come up with solutions to the question referenced above.
As Razia said at the event, if we are going to stop violence in Chicago, we need everybody to care. Please spread the word about our documentary and keep the "I Am For Peace" movement alive. If you would like to screen the documentary in your home, business, or community, let me know!
This movement was possible because Perspectives students are learning to be ethical leaders through the A Disciplined Life education model. We encourage you to join the Perspectives family. Here are some of the ways that you can get involved and further support students like Maurice, Razia, and Janeya:
- Visit a school: Perspectives Charter Schools has five schools across the South Side of Chicago serving nearly 2,200 students. If you want to see first-hand what the A Disciplined Life education model looks like, email Ashley Chitwood at achitwood@pcsedu.org to schedule a tour.
- Support the Perspectives Annual Benefit: Every year, the Annual A Disciplined Life® Benefit raises hundreds of thousands of dollars to support the work of Perspectives students and teachers. This year, the Benefit is presented by lead sponsors Ernst & Young LLP and AAR Corp. Encourage your company to sponsor the Benefit or purchase tickets yourself at pcsedu.org/benefit.
- Be an internship mentor: Every year, all Perspectives juniors participate in a job-shadowing internship at businesses throughout the city over five Wednesdays in the fall and winter. This year’s internship program kicks off on November 5th, but if you are interested in hosting Perspectives interns in the future, email Shayla Butler at sbutler@pcsedu.org.
- Join the Perspectives Young Professionals Board: We are seeking a group of talented, innovative, and enthusiastic young professionals to be founding members of the Perspectives Young Professionals Board. If you would like to be a part of this group and make a difference for the young leaders at Perspectives, email Shayla Butler at sbutler@pcsedu.org.
Perspectives students are standing up for peace. Stand with them!

Sixteen students from Mountain Home High School recently completed the Principles of Banking course through the ABA as part of the Arkansas Career and Technical Education Finance Pathway for Banking Program of Study. Jerry Don Cunningham, CEO of Twin Lakes Community Bank, presented the students with their certificates of completion on January 29. Along with their coursework, the class heard from local bankers from Integrity First Bank and Twin Lakes Community Bank — guest speakers focused on opening bank accounts, the importance of credit history, lending, and other topics.

The Journal asked writers and illustrators to contribute a series based on design icon Dieter Rams’ Ten Principles of Good Design manifesto. Each writer wrote on one of Rams’ principles; each illustrator reacted to a writer’s essay. This is the seventh illustration from the ten-part series.
Mandy Brown wrote on Rams’ seventh principle, Good design is long-lasting. Ms Brown is the Creative Director at Etsy, Contributing Editor for A List Apart, and Editor and Co-Founder of the new small press A Book Apart. She writes about books and the reading experience at A Working Library. Ward Jenkins created the above illustration based on Ms Brown’s essay. Mr Jenkins is a Portland-based animator and illustrator. He recently illustrated the hardcover children’s book, How to Train with a T. Rex and Win 8 Gold Medals, written by Michael Phelps and Alan Abrahamson.
1941 Chrysler Thunderbolt
One of a Kind
Walter P. Chrysler built his company on the principles of engineering excellence and innovation which had distinguished his career in the 19th century railroads, at Buick and Willys Overland.
The first Chrysler featured an efficient and powerful high compression six-cylinder engine, force-feed lubrication, tubular front axle and four-wheel hydraulic brakes, refinements then unprecedented in series production automobiles at the time.
The success of these and other innovations in 1934 culminated in Chryslers introduction of the Airflow, a streamlined, unit body breakthrough in automobile design.
Its timing could hardly have been worse.
Mired in the dashed expectations of the depression, customers were loath to experiment with something so new and intuitively untried and risky.
Sales plummeted and Chrysler quickly reverted to making more conventional looking automobiles.
Their mistake may largely be traced to springing the dramatically different Airflow with its distinctive appearance upon an unprepared audience.
But one remained immediately recognizable: The Copper Car.
It was built by LeBaron with a copper hardtop, sill trim and bumpers.
It survives in this unique, distinctive configuration today.
After its round of appearances it was sold to actor Bruce Cabot (First Mate Jack Driscoll in King Kong among many other roles).
In 1954 its engine was replaced by a Chrysler Hemi V-8.
It was acquired by the Harrahs Collection in 1960 and was bought during its 1985 dispersal auction by the most recent owner who two decades later commissioned a complete restoration by Chris Kidds Tired Iron Works.
During restoration the original Spitfire Eight engine was returned to its home under the Thunderbolts hood along with a dual carburetor induction system.
The drive system powering the retractable hardtop was re-engineered for smooth, reliable operation.
Completed in 2009 it debuted at the Amelia Island Concours d' Elegance where it won the Camille Jenatzy Award for the Most Audacious Exterior, then took third in class at the Pebble Beach Concours d' Elegance in August and a class win (scoring 100 points) at the Newport Beach Concours at the St. Regis Resort.
Everything about this car, as its recent 100 point score confirms, is to the highest standards of materials, craftsmanship, historical accuracy, fit, finish and function.
A dramatic statement of vision and innovation, with its brilliant copper hardtop and trim it is one of a kind, a dramatic statement of leadership in engineering, design and creativity in the 1940s, and no less a statement today.
All these principles make up self determination. It may surprise you to know that many people are deprives of plenty of self determination principles.

The Republican/Democrat duopoly has, for far too long, ignored the most important issues facing our nation. However, alternate candidates Chuck Baldwin, Cynthia McKinney, Bob Barr and Ralph Nader agree with Ron Paul on four key principles central to the health of our nation. These principles should be key in the considerations of every voter this November and in every election.
We Agree
Foreign Policy: The Iraq War must end as quickly as possible with removal of all our soldiers from the region. We must initiate the return of our soldiers from around the world, including Korea, Japan, Europe and the entire Middle East. We must cease the war propaganda, threats of a blockade and plans for attacks on Iran, nor should we re-ignite the cold war with Russia over Georgia. We must be willing to talk to all countries and offer friendship and trade and travel to all who are willing. We must take off the table the threat of a nuclear first strike against all nations.
Privacy: We must protect the privacy and civil liberties of all persons under US jurisdiction. We must repeal or radically change the Patriot Act, the Military Commissions Act, and the FISA legislation. We must reject the notion and practice of torture, eliminations of habeas corpus, secret tribunals, and secret prisons. We must deny immunity for corporations that spy willingly on the people for the benefit of the government. We must reject the unitary presidency, the illegal use of signing statements and excessive use of executive orders.
The National Debt: We believe that there should be no increase in the national debt. The burden of debt placed on the next generation is unjust and already threatening our economy and the value of our dollar. We must pay our bills as we go along and not unfairly place this burden on a future generation.
The Federal Reserve: We seek a thorough investigation, evaluation and audit of the Federal Reserve System and its cozy relationships with the banking, corporate, and other financial institutions. The arbitrary power to create money and credit out of thin air behind closed doors for the benefit of commercial interests must be ended. There should be no taxpayer bailouts of corporations and no corporate subsidies. Corporations should be aggressively prosecuted for their crimes and frauds.
