Objective 3: Elements and Principles of Design

The principles of design:

Emphasis: The droplets and the front of the leaf are in focus and on the rule of thirds while the background is all nice and blurry, as well the main part of the picture is nice and big, it stands out from everything in the background. On the leaf it has strong color but the background has soft color. In the background there’s a bunch of twigs and leaves but I think it excites the photo because I think it complements the front leaf. It’s located outside but it’s in the shade with little beams of light trickling onto the image.

The elements of design:

Line: The vertical twig in the background leads up to the main leaf in the picture. Also the curved lines make you want to look all over the picture instead of the one point. With the nice and round droplets it

Creates beauty to the leaf.

Colour: There are some bright colors in it but they are died down which makes it nice instead of darker colors and making it look gloomy. The red in the background makes the picture welcoming and the green in the picture complements the red.

Texture: The bright light on the droplets really shinny and smooth. The hard light also hits the leaf which shows a rough surface. But there is soft lighting on the background which makes the rough edges in them nice and smooth.

Objective 4: Lighting

Type of lighting and why: There is hard light and also soft light.

The hard lighting was to bring out the features of the leaf and to make it stand out from everything else.

The soft lighting was to make the picture welcoming and bring you in and to take away the rough edges in the background.

Objective 5: Post Production (ex. dust/spot removal, resize, contrast, white balance, sharpening, borders, etc.)

I made the light a bit brighter and the darks darker to make it more dramatic.

I also added contrast to the colors to make them a little more vibrant.

I also put a lot of sharpening on the leaf to make it funky and interesting.

Objective 6: Critique

Analyse your photograph for strengths and areas for improvement

Strength(s):

It isn’t over dramatic so it doesn’t make it look none realistic.

What I wanted captured in the picture I was able to get.

Weakness(s):

I could of got closer to the leaf which I could have captured more of the droplets and leaf with less of the background
