Members of the Dartmouth Alumni Council came to Hanover on December 1-3 for the 203rd session of the council. They nominated three alumni candidates for seats on the Dartmouth College Board of Trustees, met with President Kim and other administrators and faculty, and presented the 2010-11 Dartmouth Alumni Award to David Eichman '82, Susan Finegan '85, and Curt Welling '71, '77Tu. Centuries of history are preserved at Caesarea Maritima in a specially administered National Park. I reflected at length after a very enjoyable visit but could not decide whether or not I was entirely comfortable with what has been done there. Many historic sites present their remains with some sort of museum or interpretation centre nearby. Caesarea has been developed to incorporate a range of attractive shops and restaurants in architecturally sympathetic styles. The whole is a tourist and leisure destination with the ruins seeming, in places, almost decorative or incidental. On balance though, the many layers of history associated with the location made it a memorable visit.
The chimneys of a nearby industrial site contrast starkly with the architecture of lost ages.

This is part of the Borden Formation, a significant unit in the Lower Mississippian of Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio. It represents an ancient deltaic succession. Prodeltaic, delta front, and delta top deposits are present in the Borden. Named members in eastern Kentucky and southern Ohio include (from bottom to top) the Henley Member (or Henley Bed), Farmers Member, Nancy Member, Cowbell Member, and Nada Member.

Locality: Tener Mountain roadcut along the northwestern side of Rt. 32 (= Appalachian Highway), just northeast of the Rt. 32-Union Hill Road intersection, just southwest of the Adams County-Pike County line, far-northeastern Adams County, southern Ohio, USA (39° 01' 12.88" North latitude, 83° 16' 43.16" West longitude)
This gorgeous quilted blanket was made by Randy's Mum for our baby. Even Bryan said "impressive" when he saw it - praise indeed from one of them wordy men folks!
I met Jo and Randy and their lovely children today and they gave it to me so I'm now putting it far out of reach of the cats' claws until the baby comes!

It seems the architect of the modern office block copied elements from the grand Clydeport Building behind, although the result comes over as crude and flimsy.
