Kimono Club (via their official website): "In August,1999,during the annual Nisei Week parade in downtown Los Angeles,, Hayahiko Takase , then President of Japanese Chamber Commerce, rode in an open car while clad in traditional formal Japanese men’s wear (montsuki haori hakama) . Akira Tsurukame saw him and thought it might be an excellent idea to spread the spirit of Japanese Culture among people in foreign countries through Kimonos, which express dignity, simplicity and serene beauty. Thus, they decided to form a club 'KIMONO O KIYOU KA'I ('Club to Encourage the Wearing of Kimono')
On New Year's Day at 1PM (1-1-1), 2000, five gentlemen wearing Kimono gathered in front of the sculpture by a the famous artist , Isamu Noguchi, in JACCC Plaza in Little Tokyo,
So began an annual event of the LA Kimono Club, the 1-1-1 Group Photo Session in Kimono,
On March 15, 2003, approximately 40 men & women who love Kimono met to form a club with the agreed objective of promoting mutual understanding and cultural exchanges between the US and Japan through Kimono. They officially formed the club now called 'LA KIMONO CLUB' with club rules and selection of officers"
From the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Southern California's website: To welcome the new year, JCCF hosts the annual Oshogatsu (New Year Celebration) in Little Tokyo on January 1st. This event was started in 1998 to introduce members of the Japanese American community and the general American public to the wonderful traditions of the New Year Celebration in Japan.

I got this snoring elk as an ironic present one year from Laura and underthesun. It's true that I do have something of the 'chainsaw' about me at times during the night - goodjob I'm not sensitive about it!
The elk snores a few times when you squeeze his hand, and brings no end of entertainment!
He's accompanied here by his smaller friend, who is blessedly rather quieter in slumber.
This photo was suggested by Laura as I'm feeling really knackered and she thought the common theme of sleepiness kind of worked. I think she's right. :)

Another shot from my wife's maternity shoot. She's carrying a little present we brought back from the honeymoon.
I took this picture on the 21th of June in Argostoli, Cephalonia, Greece, for the purposes of my dissertation research. This tattoo is an embodiment of lived experiences and strong attachments. Constantina, whose arm is here pictured, told me that she decided to have this tattoo of her grandmother’s photograph made in December 2011, but she had wanted since she was in high school. Her grandmother means a lot to her. Her childhood is strongly associated with this woman, with whom she spent long hours. As a child she always admired the way that dressed and her hair style. She chose her shoulder for this tattoo, rather than her back, because she wanted to have her grandmother right beside her and not behind her. Constantina thus breaks time limits and keeps the dead alive. Her grandmother is present even though in absentia.

Presente el Tecnológico de Monterrey Campus Puebla con el Coach Lira
Los 18 equipos que conforman la Conferencia Premier de football americano de la CONADEIP estuvieron presentes en la oficialización de la temporada 2012 que arrancará el próximo fin de semana.
En la ocasión, los equipos se dieron todavía un poco de tiempo para la cortesía y la convivencia como preámbulo para lo que será una férrea lucha por el trofeo que avale como campeón al equipo que sea capaz de tener la mayor regularidad, la mayor fuerza y el mejor ímpetu para salir adelante.
Al respecto, el Coach de los Borregos Salvajes del Campus Puebla, Hugo Lira Hernández, habló de la importancia del evento. “Hoy nos reunimos aquí todos los coaches , hablamos de la filosofía que es la que debemos de seguir y regirnos por ella, la cual habla de ética en el deporte, habla de avances académicos que fue el mensaje primordial, tener graduados en nuestros equipos; esa es la misión que tenemos como entrenadores en nuestros equipos y ahora si ya viene la parte del football, es donde viene toda la parte de pasión y esperamos mucha afición en nuestros partidos”.
Esta fue la primera ocasión que el Coach Lira se presenta a la cabeza de un programa de football americano. “Me da mucha emoción, todas éstas primeras partes son importantes porque se marcan en tu memoria y ver a gente que tiene muchos años en ésta parte del footbal como es el coach Frank González, el coach Diego García Miravete, el coach Enrique Borda Tovar y tantos otros que han sido campeones a nivel nacional y estar al lado de ellos, en lo personal se siente muy satisfactorio”.
Es por lo anterior que Lira Hernández se centrará en trabajar arduamente para que su equipo dé de que hablar positivamente y estar a la altura que las exigencias requieren.
Por su parte el quarterback de la escuadra poblana Erick Juárez, en su calidad de capitán de equipo, se presentó por primera vez en igual que su head coach y reflejó su agrado por representar al Campus Puebla a nivel nacional.
“Es un orgullo estar aquí observando la presentación, a los medios de comunicación y más con el puesto de capitán representando al Campus Puebla y viendo a nuestros contrincantes contra los que vamos a jugar éste año, pero estamos listos para enfrentarlos que al fin y al cabo es para lo que nos estamos preparando”.
Juárez Padilla añadió que a partir de éste momento lo único que quieren tanto él como sus compañeros es entrar al terreno de juego, lo cual se les cumplirá el próximo sábado 1 de septiembre a las 13:00 horas en el “Cráter Azul” cuando toda esa adrenalina almacenada y todo ese coraje almacenado exploten para defender los colores de su institución.
Como dato adicional la CONADEIP dio como positivo el balance de los juegos de pretemporada entre los equipos de la Conferencia Premier y los de la ONEFA, al punto de considerar que dichos encuentros pueden ser la puerta de entrada para que en un futuro próximo se pueda desarrollar un tazón nacional entre los campeones de ambas ligas.
