Preschool teachers learn how to improve their professional level, using Internet in Almaty, Kazakhstan
Yesterday we had a Halloween day in Preschool! We talked about why we celebrate Halloween, why we dress up and why we carve pumpkins (the children found it very funny that people used to carve swedes). We talked about how many pumpkins get wasted every year and thought about how we could use all of the pumpkin so we didn't throw it away and waste it. The adults cut open the pumpkins and let the children scoop out all of the seeds and flesh. We decided to roast the seeds in olive oil and then ate them at snack time (they were delicious!) We also roasted the flesh and when it had cooled down we mixed it with oats, honey, water and vanilla extract and made our very own pumpkin pie, which the children enjoyed eating at the end of the day!

The preschool children have been learning about trains and different types of transportation. They constructed a train in the classroom that includes three passenger cars, a steering wheel, remote controls and windows. To finish the unit, the children built their own train cars at home and paraded through the lower school. (Photo by Todd Race)

Keeping with the tradition of celebrating festivals with gaiety and apprising little Prideens of our rich culture and heritage, the auspicious festival of Baisakhi was celebrated across all branches of Mother’s Pride with great fun and fervor. Our Prideens looked adorable dressed in colourful Punjabi attires. The branches were beautifully decorated depicting the beauty of the harvest season. Punjabi folk songs echoed in every corner of every branch setting the mood of festivity. The day began with a special assembly where the relevance of the festival was shared with the children. Music and dance further added to the excitement.

Ava at preschool, from a couple weeks ago. She’s been wanting to go early lately, so since we were the first ones there, I snapped a few pictures of her in the foyer. Her two front teeth seemed to be moving suddenly around this time, making more of a gap between them and her other teeth. They were very loose, but I suspect she also had a growth spurt to make space for adult teeth.

Quite an outfit-short overalls with no shirt - gotta have a hat - and I believe the shoes are on the wrong feet! :)
The Tues/Thurs Monument Preschool classes had a fun field trip to Canyon View Park where they played on the equipment, walked around the lake, fed the ducks, and caught crawdads. They even got to pet some baby goats. Fun!
Prideens delightfully celebrated their birthdays with their Mother’s Pride family. The children enjoyed cutting the cake, eating sweets, dancing to foot tapping music and had a gala time in a fun filled celebration at school as their teachers showered their heartfelt blessings on them. For Prideens their school indeed is a garden of love that nurtures and celebrates childhood to the fullest.
Celebrations often make school a joyful place for children and make them feel at home. It also inculcates confidence and self worth, fosters peer group bonding and instills social values like sharing and co-operation in them.
