Yesterday we had a Halloween day in Preschool! We talked about why we celebrate Halloween, why we dress up and why we carve pumpkins (the children found it very funny that people used to carve swedes). We talked about how many pumpkins get wasted every year and thought about how we could use all of the pumpkin so we didn't throw it away and waste it. The adults cut open the pumpkins and let the children scoop out all of the seeds and flesh. We decided to roast the seeds in olive oil and then ate them at snack time (they were delicious!) We also roasted the flesh and when it had cooled down we mixed it with oats, honey, water and vanilla extract and made our very own pumpkin pie, which the children enjoyed eating at the end of the day!

With pride and spirit of patriotism in hearts, national days, are filled with a sense of joy and gratitude, towards our nation’s heroes and leaders, those who paved the way for a brighter future.
Today our students took pride in glorifying and celebrating the spirit of freedom. To mark the importance of the day, a grand celebration was held at Mother’s Pride. The branches resonated with patriotic songs and were decorated beautifully in tri-colors. The little ones looked adorable in colorful costumes, dressed as national heroes and freedom fighters. Teachers too were dressed in tri-colored clothes to add spark.
The National Flag was unfurled, followed by the National Anthem and release of tri-colored balloons. The special assembly witnessed some beautiful performances by the young Prideens that packed the crowd with the scent of ardour. May, the spirit of freedom that brightened the aura, sparkle in the hearts of all the children for years to come.
The preschool children have been learning about trains and different types of transportation. They constructed a train in the classroom that includes three passenger cars, a steering wheel, remote controls and windows. To finish the unit, the children built their own train cars at home and paraded through the lower school. (Photo by Todd Race)
Keeping with the tradition of celebrating festivals with gaiety and apprising little Prideens of our rich culture and heritage, the auspicious festival of Baisakhi was celebrated across all branches of Mother’s Pride with great fun and fervor. Our Prideens looked adorable dressed in colourful Punjabi attires. The branches were beautifully decorated depicting the beauty of the harvest season. Punjabi folk songs echoed in every corner of every branch setting the mood of festivity. The day began with a special assembly where the relevance of the festival was shared with the children. Music and dance further added to the excitement.

Ava at preschool, from a couple weeks ago. She’s been wanting to go early lately, so since we were the first ones there, I snapped a few pictures of her in the foyer. Her two front teeth seemed to be moving suddenly around this time, making more of a gap between them and her other teeth. They were very loose, but I suspect she also had a growth spurt to make space for adult teeth.

Morning and afternoon 4-year old preschool classes participated in a graduation ceremony as they prepare to enter kindergarten in the fall. Congratulations, to some of our littlest Bluejays!
Dropped by a ribbon-cutting for new playgrounds at some Headstart preschools in Des Moines. No surprise but, once the ribbon was cut, everyone was either off to the slide or mugging for the camera.
