Preening and cleaning grebe.

Humber Bay East, Toronto ON

taken at Heckscher Park on a beautiful day...

It's interesting to watch birds preen. Here a hooded merganser drake is grooming his feathers, oiling them up a little for waterproofing and providing care. They use their beak and feet like most birds to perform this activity.

The black swan had stopped for a few minutes to preen giving us a chance to enjoy and capture a few images before he sailed off !! They truly are a work of art to see with their elegant lines and beautiful coloring.

Wishing you a beautiful and blessed evening !!!

Peregrines are fast, powerful and acrobatic, but that can't be taken for granted, it takes a lot of maintenance to keep fit and glamorous. After the rain, a lot of time is spent preening feather by feather.

Another archive shot. Came across this beautiful Swan busy preening itself and generally going through its beauty routine, on the river at Wellingborough..

It's sunrise in the La Crosse River Marsh and time to start making yourself look presentable for the day. The photographer should have taken the hint as well.
