Thank you friends, for your immediate and precise information!! I got it well wow it is nice!! This experience is likely to make me interested in fowls. (^O^) After browsing Japanese web sites on this, I knew that this bird often puzzles Japanese as I did haha

According to Wikpedia ... "....... a large duck which is native to Mexico, Central and South America. ......... There also are feral breeding populations in North America in and around public parks in nearly every state of the USA and in the Canadian provinces. Although the Muscovy Duck is a tropical bird, it adapts to icy and snowy conditions down to -12°C (10°F) and below without ill effects The wild Muscovy Duck is all-dark apart from the white in the wings, with long talons on its feet and a wide flat tail. ...Some domesticated ducklings have a dark head and blue eyes, others a light brown crown and dark markings on their nape. They are agile and speedy precocial hunters.

From Japanese web search I also knew that ... Introduced to Japan for farming but marketing failed. escaped birds naturalized in many water surface,,,,the only house duck that is not originated in Mallard. ....Japanese name "Bariken" originates from Dutch word "Bergeeende" ... so maybe introduced from Netherland? Other Japanese name means "Taiwan duck", "French duck"

I have little knowledge about birds, and nothing especially on fowls. Someone please teach me what is he!!

I thought this one is some kind of turkey or so (^.^;;, but ahh! it jumped into the pond!! I think a turkey does not swim... right? You may laugh at my stone ignorance!! (^O^)

Today I went to Otto-numa park to watch ducks. The sun was warm spring sun, but strong wind was winter north wind. I sit by the pond, and enjoyed watching ducks. I love to watch pin-tails, they are really cute and comical. Swans were swimming elegantly.

There are many feeders and every time someone feeds, there happened quite a mess lol. In front of me a mallard was trying to raxx a white duck (^.^;;

On the bank various kinds of homeless fowls, whom I cannot identify only if it is chicken or not lol, and landed pintails were always making mess following walkers expecting feed. This park, especially in winter is birds wonderland haha.

One after another, fowls came to me, walked about circling around me, so I did much conversation with them haha. "I know you ware nice jacket, but have you ever caught cold? Don't say you have that bird ful!" "..gobble... gobble"

I suddenly thought that fowl may be much more photogenic than wild birds here on close up, and tried some shots haha.

Warangal Fort, in the present-day Indian state of Telangana, appears to have existed since at least the 13th century CE. Although precise dating of its construction and subsequent enhancements are uncertain, historians and archaeologists generally accept that an earlier brick-walled structure was replaced with stone by Ganapatideva, who died in 1262, and that his successors – Rudramadevi and Prataparudra II – added to its height and added gateways, square bastions and additional circular earthern walls prior to the latter's death in 1323. This places the construction towards the end of the Kakatiya period. There were later modifications between the 15th and 17th centuries, comprising principally the addition of barbicans to the four gates in the stone wall and the creation of gates in the outer earthern wall.

Remnants of the structure can be seen today near to the town of Warangal, which was the Kakatiya capital. The Archaeological Survey of India has listed the remains as a Monument of National Importance.

The 12th and the 13th centuries saw the emergence of the Kakatiyas. They were at first the feudatories of the Western Chalukyas of Kalyana, ruling over a small territory near Warangal. A ruler of this dynasty, Prola II, who ruled from A.D.1110 to 1158, extended his sway to the south and declared his independence. His successor Rudra (A.D.1158--1195) pushed the kingdom to the north up to the Godavari delta. He built a fort at Warangal to serve as a second capital and faced the invasions of the Yadavas of Devagiri. The next ruler Mahadeva extended the kingdom to the coastal area. In A.D.1199, Ganapati succeeded him. He was the greatest of the Kakatiyas and the first after the Satavahanas to bring the entire Telugu area under one rule. He put an end to the rule of the Velanati Cholas in A.D.1210. He forced the Telugu Cholas of Vikramasimhapura to accept his suzerainty. He established order in his vast dominion and encouraged trade.

As Ganapati Deva had no sons, his daughter Rudramba succeeded him in A.D.1262 and carried on the administration. Some generals, who did not like to be ruled by her, rebelled. She could, however, suppress the internal rebellions and external invasions with the help of loyal subordinates. The Cholas and the Yadavas suffered such set backs at her hands that they did not think of troubling her for the rest of her rule.

Prataparudra succeeded his grandmother Rudramba in A.D.1295 and ruled till A.D.1323. He pushed the western border of his kingdom up to Raichur. He introduced many administrative reforms. He divided the kingdom into 75 Nayakships, which was later adopted and developed by the Rayas of Vijayanagara. In his time the territory constituting Andhra Pradesh had the first experience of a Muslim invasion. In A.D.1303, the Delhi Sultan Ala-ud-din Khilji sent an army to plunder the kingdom. But Prataparudra defeated them at Upparapalli in Karimnagar district. In A.D. 1310, when another army under Malik Kafur invaded Warangal, Prataparudra yielded and agreed to pay a large tribute. In A.D.1318, when Ala-ud-din Khilji died, Prataparudra withheld the tribute. It provoked another invasion of the Muslims. In A.D.1321, Ghiaz-ud-din Tughlaq sent a large army under Ulugh Khan to conquer the Telugu country then called Tilling. He laid siege to Warangal, but owing to internal dissensions he called off the siege and returned to Delhi. Within a short period, he came back with a much bigger army. In spite of unpreparedness, Prataparudra fought bravely. For want of supplies, he surrendered to the enemy who sent him to Delhi as a prisoner, and he died on the way. Thus ended the Kakatiya rule, opening the gates of the Telugu land to anarchy and confusion yielding place to an alien ruler.

The Kakatiya period was rightly called the brightest period of the Telugu history. The entire Telugu speaking area was under the kings who spoke Telugu and encouraged Telugu. They established order throughout the strife torn land and the forts built by them played a dominant role in the defence of the realm. Anumakonda and Gandikota among the `giridurgas', Kandur and Narayanavanam among the `vanadurgas', Divi and Kolanu among the `jaladurgas', and Warangal and Dharanikota among the `sthaladurgas' were reckoned as the most famous strongholds in the Kakatiya period. The administration of the kingdom was organized with accent on the military.

Though Saivism continued to be the religion of the masses, intellectuals favoured revival of Vedic rituals. They sought to reconcile the Vaishnavites and the Saivites through the worship of Harihara. Arts and literature found patrons in the Kakatiyas and their feudatories.

Cleveland has something really neat: a lake. Lake Erie to be precise, "the fourth-largest lake (by surface area) of the five Great Lakes in North America, and the eleventh-largest globally if measured in terms of surface area" (Wikipedia). It's gorgeous, and its shoreline hosts a beautiful park, Edgewater park. The park includes a pier, used by wandering souls, tourists, and people who like to fish.

This pier has been battered by the world around it, by weather, has been repaired, remodeled many times, and in turn features great textures.

I took my trusty camera, and captured sixteen of these great textures. I gently edited them, color-corrected them, and here we are. The set includes the original textures, negative versions, transparent versions, Bitmap TIFF versions, and vector versions.

These can be used for backgrounds, distressing, to give depth. Use the negative versions as aging artifacts on photos, by changing their blending mode to screen, and lowering the opacity to 25-50%. Have fun!

A cartoon (precise drawing) is made of the old panel, it is also photographed.

The lead is carefully cut apart to free all the glass.

Any damaged glass is replaced, then the existing glass is cleaned.

New lead is cut to size and the glass pieces are assembled, above the cartoon, held in place with horse-shoe nails.

The lead joints are soldered on both sides.

The panel is flooded with a liquid cement which is brushed into the gaps between the lead and glass.

Plaster of Paris or Beech sawdust is brushed over the surface.

The panel is left for 24 hours, then cleaned on both sides.

After 3 days the cement should be dry enough (and ridged enough) to finally clean and polish the panel.

Several years ago I made a career change or maybe- to be precise- a career change was forced on me. Either way a change was made. In the process I was wiped out financially. Without getting into the details of my own stupidity, in my late forties I found myself starting over. In taking inventory of what I had learned and what I want to do, I decided to put my experience to good use by becoming a professional sales trainer. This story has a happy ending. I thoroughly enjoy my work and as I head into my fifties I find new doors opening at time when most men find them closing. Aside from a great support network at home, what sustained me through the transition is my own peculiar trait of being a skeptical optimist. The skepticism is the result of getting older, I suppose; the optimism was a gift from my folks.

The optimist part is piece that doesn’t quite fit the puzzle when you look at my photographs of the city. Often I find myself scratching my head and wondering, “Is this really me? Am I that negative?” Truth is I believe the city will rebound and the area will once again thrive. That’s the glass half- full guy. The skeptic says, maybe but not in your lifetime, Gramps.

This scene in the Cass Corridor touches on some of the reason for my optimism. These buildings are earmarked for development. Just east of these buildings is a new development of Condos. Throughout Downtown there are pockets of redevelopment and even in the slow real estate market these days, change plods on. The desolation is strangely creating opportunity by creating an inventory of cheap land. It wont happen in a rush. We will never see growth like Detroit saw in the early 20th Century, but things will change. Doors will be opened.

It's now commonplace to plant these little studs in the ground wherever precise survey markers are needed. Their position is very precisely established. They can then be used for calibration of the local surveying equipment used by the builders etc.. They have poles with special feet which fit onto the stud, and use lasers and GPS to refer to other local kit on tripods etc.. The kit I've seen the tram workers in Princes Street using has all been Trimble stuff. Typical accuracy is within 2mm, and is established rapidly with the aid of computer, lasers, and GPS satellites which the US Department of Defence has generously given us all free access to.

The US also gives free access to all of its national map data. Unlike the anal British Government bean counters who've hobbled all sorts of interesting geographic data applications by insisting that the Ordnance Survey terrifies everyone into paying for every bit of map data access. And which of course has only succeeded in driving business away from the Ordnance Survey into more intelligently managed alternatives (such as Google's mappery).

We're so lucky that the British inventor of the World Wide Web was a scientist who deliberately made the web public so that it was impossible for our government to get its short sighted greedy little fingers on it.

This stud by the way takes the prize as the crappiest survey stud installation I've yet seen in Edinburgh. I wonder who was responsible for it?

Unlocking the mysteries of animal migration through precise, near real-time tracking can solve major conservation challenges and transform wildlife science worldwide. For the past year, scientists at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute have been working with aviation and aerospace leaders, led by Airbus to launch the “Partners in the Sky” program using aviation and aerospace technology to create a first-of-its-kind global animal-tracking system.

“By bringing together the scientific expertise of the Smithsonian with this roster of partners and their technological assets, we will take a quantum leap forward in our understanding of migration and make a real and lasting impact on biodiversity,” says Steve Monfort, director of the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute. “Our Partners in the Sky initiative is an example of the public and private sectors sharing responsibility to take on a worldwide conservation challenge.”

Allan McArtor, chairman of Airbus Americas, learned of the technical challenges facing scientists tracking animals and knew industry could provide solutions. “Aviation and aerospace companies deploy similar technologies and programs every day—whether in satellite navigation, communication and surveillance or in high-fidelity tracking,” said McArtor. “No industry is better positioned to help the public sector transform wildlife conservation and make a difference in the health of our planet.”

Movement of animals is essential to maintaining ecosystems and ultimately a healthy planet. Migrations are common among more than 6,000 species and occur almost everywhere in the world, often spanning thousands of miles. More than 90 percent of the globe’s wildlife is too small to track. For larger species like elephants, conservation-tracking technologies are prohibitively expensive, have high failure rates and are limited in range and resolution.

SCBI scientists are leaders in studying animal movement and its consequences for species, communities and ecosystems. A comprehensive tracking program that SCBI can share across the conservation community has enormous potential. Integrating that information with key environmental and satellite data from other sources, potentially through one platform, will help scientists pinpoint what drives animal movement. The worldwide conservation community could track animals over their lifetime, discover unknown migration routes, understand the spread of infectious disease, reduce human-animal conflicts, combat poaching, pinpoint the root causes of migratory bird population declines and save species from extinction.

SCBI scientists identified specifications for the ideal tracking system and presented them to the Partners in the Sky consortium—Airbus, Intel, Iridium Communications Inc., Joubeh, Lockheed Martin, Michael Goldfarb Associates, Raytheon, Rockwell Collins and United Airlines. Pennsylvania State University’s Applied Research Laboratory joined the effort thanks to a donation from the Rick Bowe and Karen Nemeth Charitable Fund. Together with the Partners and Penn State’s ARL, SCBI scientists charted a course of action that includes four key parts:

•The 1 Gram Challenge. Miniaturizing tracking devices to 1 gram or less will help pinpoint precise movement of birds and other small migratory animals, like amphibians remotely. Existing devices are too large and heavy to track small animals. A tracking device should not weigh more than 5 percent of an animal’s total body weight to minimize impact on the health of the animal.

•Satellite Technology. Industry and scientists are working together to increase data transmission and make tracking devices more affordable and reliable, ideally lasting the lifetime of an animal. Increasing the use of low-orbit satellite networks will help track animals anywhere in the world at any time.

•Commercial Aircraft. Aircraft equipped with antennae and receivers will collect tracking data from transmitter-tagged wildlife on passenger routes and automatically download information to users on the ground. Partnering directly with commercial airlines to use existing transmitters and leverage a network of this scale is unprecedented in animal tracking.

•Big Data. By integrating tracking with environmental satellite data, scientists will be able to predict why, how, where and when animals move. These movement models can reveal connections between important conservation issues, such as climate effects on animal movement, infectious disease spread and human-wildlife conflict. Together with the Partners, SCBI will explore working with existing wildlife programs to integrate tracking data into one comprehensive platform.

The Partners in the Sky program is still in its beginning stages: expanding the markets to make the satellite solution affordable; developing high-power, 1 gram tracking devices; engineering, building, and certifying aircraft antenna to pick up tagged wildlife on overfly routes.

To showcase the potential of the technology, the Zoo’s Asian elephant Shanthi and elephants in the wild at the Centre for Conservation and Research in Sri Lanka, have been collared with tracking devices. Using the Iridium satellite constellation, their positions will be displayed on a kiosk at the Elephant Community Center and on the Zoo’s website. Position reports from three recently tagged black-crowned night herons will also be included, marking the first time that scientists will know the migratory route and winter destinations of these birds after they leave the National Zoo each summer. An “Animal Trax” module will be integrated into the Zoo’s existing App in early 2014. Through “Animal Trax,” users can keep track of the movements of their favorite animal.

In spite of unpreparedness, Prataparudra fought bravely. For want of supplies, he surrendered to the enemy who sent him to Delhi as a prisoner, and he died on the way. Thus ended the Kakatiya rule, opening the gates of the Telugu land to anarchy and confusion yielding place to an alien ruler.

The Kakatiya period was rightly called the brightest period of the Telugu history. The entire Telugu speaking area was under the kings who spoke Telugu and encouraged Telugu. They established order throughout the strife torn land and the forts built by them played a dominant role in the defence of the realm. Anumakonda and Gandikota among the `giridurgas', Kandur and Narayanavanam among the `vanadurgas', Divi and Kolanu among the `jaladurgas', and Warangal and Dharanikota among the `sthaladurgas' were reckoned as the most famous strongholds in the Kakatiya period. The administration of the kingdom was organized with accent on the military.

Though Saivism continued to be the religion of the masses, intellectuals favoured revival of Vedic rituals. They sought to reconcile the Vaishnavites and the Saivites through the worship of Harihara. Arts and literature found patrons in the Kakatiyas and their feudatories.

Warangal Fort, in the present-day Indian state of Telangana, appears to have existed since at least the 13th century CE. Although precise dating of its construction and subsequent enhancements are uncertain, historians and archaeologists generally accept that an earlier brick-walled structure was replaced with stone by Ganapatideva, who died in 1262, and that his successors – Rudramadevi and Prataparudra II – added to its height and added gateways, square bastions and additional circular earthern walls prior to the latter's death in 1323. This places the construction towards the end of the Kakatiya period. There were later modifications between the 15th and 17th centuries, comprising principally the addition of barbicans to the four gates in the stone wall and the creation of gates in the outer earthern wall.

Remnants of the structure can be seen today near to the town of Warangal, which was the Kakatiya capital. The Archaeological Survey of India has listed the remains as a Monument of National Importance.

The 12th and the 13th centuries saw the emergence of the Kakatiyas. They were at first the feudatories of the Western Chalukyas of Kalyana, ruling over a small territory near Warangal. A ruler of this dynasty, Prola II, who ruled from A.D.1110 to 1158, extended his sway to the south and declared his independence. His successor Rudra (A.D.1158--1195) pushed the kingdom to the north up to the Godavari delta. He built a fort at Warangal to serve as a second capital and faced the invasions of the Yadavas of Devagiri. The next ruler Mahadeva extended the kingdom to the coastal area. In A.D.1199, Ganapati succeeded him. He was the greatest of the Kakatiyas and the first after the Satavahanas to bring the entire Telugu area under one rule. He put an end to the rule of the Velanati Cholas in A.D.1210. He forced the Telugu Cholas of Vikramasimhapura to accept his suzerainty. He established order in his vast dominion and encouraged trade.

As Ganapati Deva had no sons, his daughter Rudramba succeeded him in A.D.1262 and carried on the administration. Some generals, who did not like to be ruled by her, rebelled. She could, however, suppress the internal rebellions and external invasions with the help of loyal subordinates. The Cholas and the Yadavas suffered such set backs at her hands that they did not think of troubling her for the rest of her rule.

*Catching life unawares*

The title of the film, Kino Eye, refers to Vertov's opinion that the camera is an improvement of the human eye. It can see things that we cannot, and it sees the world in a better, more precise way. This film aims to prove that futurist idea. In this film Vertov experiments with several techniques to exploit the qualities of the film camera. He tilts the camera 90 degrees to show a street from a different angle. He speeds up the image, or slows it down, for instance to show how to dive from a high platform. He also reverses the image, to show how a bull is slaughtered or how bread is made and where the flour comes from. These techniques indeed make you see things in a new way. They make the familiar strange, a known design research technique. And they teach you something that was important to the soviet revolution at that time: the things we eat or consume are produced in a certain way that we might not know about. Today this has become important again, with anxieties about food health and safety, and interest in fair trade.

The second title of the film translates as "Life caught unawares" or "Life unrehearsed", pointing at the importance of observing people without them noticing it. When making this film, Vertov still thought that he could only show everyday life as it is, if people did not notice him. (Later, in 1929's The Man with a Movie Camera, he considered spontaneous reactions to the camera to be 'unawares' too.) He developed several techniques to achieve this. One was trying to hide or disguise the camera. For instance, in the sequence with the magician, the cameraman was dressed as a telephone repairman and the camera was inside a fake telephone booth. This allowed him to get images of the faces of the children without distracting them from the spectacle of the magician. In itself, filming a spectacle, something that keeps people's attention, is a good way of catching life unawares. This is also demonstrated by the sequence with the elephant in Moscow, attracting everybody's attention. Another way of going unnoticed is filming from a distance, but in the 1920s there were no strong long lenses yet. We do see wide shots from a distance though, observing movements of people on the streets.

The act of looking is a few times stressed in the film by the insert of a close up of an eye, for instance in the sequences on the mental illness institute and the young homeless waking up on the street. These sequences, and others, are edited in a fast pace, directing the gaze of the spectator quite strongly. This might not be the editing style you expect in a film that foremost observes. But it fits in Vertov's programme to let you see the world in a new way. His observations are guiding the spectator; they hardly let you discover things yourself. They point at the things he wants you to discover and learn about such as how people take a dive or how bread is made. This might seem boring because it is overly didactic, but because it is filmed in a way that lets you see these events see in a new way, the didacticism is acceptable.

The recipe is adapted from a 2001 recipe of Sisson's Brewpub, then located in the Federal Hill neighborhood of Baltimore, Maryland. (To be more reminiscent, substitute butter for the olive/canola oil.)

From the museum label: Sargent remained close friends with artist Paul Helleu (1859-1957) since their student days in Paris. In summer 1889, Helleu and his wife, Alice Guérin (1870-1933), visited Sargent in the English countryside at Fladbury, Worcestershire, where this outdoor portrait was painted. The portrait reveals the ongoing importance of Sargent's Parisian friendships to his work. It pays tribute to his dear friend's art, recording the precise moment he places his brush on canvas. Sargent adapted the plein-air lessons he had learned while painting alongside Claude Monet at Giverny. While the portraits are carefully observed, he adopted a distinctive spiky brushstroke to render the tall grass in a lively pattern. The high vantage point and strong diagonal of the canoe create a dynamic and modern composition.
