When I don't stamp for a while (for me that's a week or two) I need to do something to get the "gears in motion" again. I like to just stamp out a simple scene and practice the fundamentals of media application. Most of the time, this means stamping out some scene that I've done many times but, in this case, I have a large stack of "stamp sketches" from over the years and I've picked out 3 to finish off in this video. I'm keeping things simple here by using the same color scheme in all of the pieces. The lesson kind of becomes a lesson in scenic lighting by oscillating lights and darks by separating streaks of ink application.

My daughter knew I was practicing with my new camera, but thought I was aiming for her necklace. She thinks this shot is strange but typical of me.

I heard some beautiful music in the most unlikely of places while walking my dog Daisy today. I met this gentleman, who practiced under the overpass because the acoustics were so nice there. He was not playing for money. On his lap was a spiral-bound notebook with the music written out by hand. He had been playing "Mr. Bojangles" and we talked about what an emotional song it is. Then he quoted the exact lyrics that always bring a tear to my eye:
He spoke with tears of fifteen years how his dog and him, traveled about.
His dog up and died, he up and died,
After twenty years he still grieves...
(lyrics by Jerry Jeff Walker)
Here's a link to the song for anyone who doesn't know it. (my favorite version, sung by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band)
