Hmm, it's another one of those strange 3-wheeled things. But even if the practicality of the Reliant Robin was a little untoward, the car did still sell heavily in the UK, especially in the West Midlands where the car was originally built.

Can technology help prevent and respond to gender-based violence (GBV), particularly in low- and middle-income countries? Increasingly, cell phones, cameras, crowd-sourcing, and mobile apps are being used in innovative ways to address GBV, but questions surrounding ethics, effectiveness, and practicality remain. The Interagency Gender Working Group, U. S. Agency for International Development, Woodrow Wilson Center, CARE, and Population Reference Bureau will host a panel discussion exploring the ethics around new technologies to combat GBV; how effective they are; and what some of the more practical and actionable ways forward might be.

I'd been admiring the practicality of the raised bed design for a minute or so before I realised it was in the shape of the Masterchef symbol.

Now here's a wacky one, built in 1970 this machine attempted to marry four-door practicality with a design we'd only ever seen in episodes of UFO!

From now on you will address me as Commander Straker!

According to the blurb:

"With rear-hinged back doors, turbo gauges set into a pod that swings out with the driver's door and a 'manometer' to measure air pressure on the car's hull, the SRV illustrated Vauxhall's forward thinking approach to engineering and design, which still exists today (if the spontaneously combusting Zafira is anything to go by, that statement is a stretch!)

SRV was largely the work of Wayne Cherry, the American who headed up Vauxhall design well into the 1970's. Very much a concept, with no pretense at production viability, Cherry claimed the car's shape was inspired by the cab-forward Le Mans racing cars of the time, although a mock 2.3L Slant-Four engine formed from wood GRP and aluminium nipped in the bud any illusions of actual power and performance!

But SRV's flush door handles, electric self-levelling suspension and aerofoil to improve downforce were all remarkably prescient for the time."

Dr. Michael Bröning has presented his book and moderated the discussion, The Politics of Change in Palestine: State-Building and Non-Violent Resistance.

“The Politics of Change in Palestine” discusses these changes. The book contradicts the prevalent myth that incompetent, corrupt, and uncompromising Palestinian decision-makers are responsible for the lasting stalemate in the Middle-East Peace Process. The book highlights recent political developments in Palestine that fundamentally redefine important parameters of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. These include the re-invention of Hamas, reforms within the Fatah movement, state-building efforts of the Palestinian Authority and the surge of non-violent resistance.

Copyright © Kevin Cooper Photoline NUJ: Seamus McKee (BBC Radio Ulster) opened the conference and give context to the debate as chairperson of Business Rates Conference 2016 which took place on Tuesday, 12 January 2016 in Riddel Hall at Queen's University Belfast. Speakers included: Richard Johnston - Associate Director, NI Centre for Economic Policy, UU; David Sterling - Permanent Secretary, Department of Finance & Personnel; Stephen Kelly, Chief Executive, Manufacturing NI; Aodhán Connolly, Director, NI Retail Consortium, Seamus McAleavey â Chief Executive, NICVA, Derek McCallan â Chief Executive, NILGA, Followed by a panel discussion with David Sterling â DFP, Stephen Kelly â Manufacturing NI, Aodhán Connolly â NI Retail Consortium, Seamus McAleavey â NICVA, Derek McCallan â NILGA. After a short break the discussion continued with A system that it is fit for purpose: the practicalities involved: Brian McClure â Head of Rating Policy Division, Department of Finance & Personnel, Funding local services: a new system for securing businesses contributions: Martin McTague â Chairman, Local Government Committee, Federation of Small Businesses, Getting it right: the UK and international perspective:

David Magor OBE - Chief Executive, Institute of Revenues, Rating and Valuation. Finishing the final panel discussion was with: Brian McClure â Department of Finance & Personnel, Martin McTague â FSB and David Magor â IRRV. Seamus McKee, Chairperson of the conference made some concluding remarks before breaking for lunch. Business Rates Conference 2016, which was part of the Chambré Public Affairs âEye on the Hillâ series of policy events, provided participants with a unique insight into an important programme of reform. The conference offered context and analysis from the Minister, senior officials, sector leaders and noted experts, the conference is perfectly timed to inform responses to the consultation, which closes a fortnight later. On 26 October 2015, Finance Minister Arlene Foster launched a public consultation on a wide-ranging Review of Northern Ireland's Non-Domestic Rating System. The consultation asks questions that touch upon every sector in Northern Ireland, giving respondents the chance to provide imaginative suggestions to improve how revenue is raised locally. Key questions include whether the 100% exemption for charities should be maintained, and how the system could be changed to better suit the demands of local business. Because of the Departmentâs willingness to engage creatively with the business community and other stakeholders, this consultation represents a rare opportunity to influence major change. Business rating is a vital form of taxation, raising some £592m of revenue for regional and local Government in Northern Ireland. However, it is also a significant expense for the businesses that are the lifeblood of the local economy, and can act as a particular disincentive to smaller enterprises who want to invest and expand. At the other end of the spectrum, charities in Northern Ireland benefit significantly from the current rating system, enjoying a 100% rates exemption.

The dreaded darkness is upon us.

I believe practicality matters most.

As use of extra lights in the house and those that surround it are helpful when there is less sun to encircle us during the day.

We can decorate and light up everything.

Make things sparkly and shiny until we get through the cold dark nights of winter.

I live with the four seasons.

Each one has their good and bad.

And yet they are all over within 4 months.

Chatter of weather is appropriate to neighbors when you don’t want to talk about politics or religion.

Deciduous plants fade quietly at this time and leaves fall fervently with nothing left but a shadowed skeleton.

What else is there to do but bring an evergreen tree into a house and decorate it?

I’d imagine it was a practical idea to many in history.

Take a live tree, cut it down, wrap it and somehow get it into your house.

Then trim accordingly and decorate with your favorite hanging tchotchkes galore.

Tinsel y’all? Or garland or strands of pearls?

Blinking white lights or multi-colored wrapped around.

Each tree has a life or had a life of its own.

You also can go get a processed plastic one that you can box up every year.

The iconic tree of trees is dated back as far as the Vikings.

Its identified by many cultures and religions.

And is without a doubt a common debate within some sacred religions.

Is it a christmas tree or a holiday tree or a simple evergreen tree?

This unbridled emotion towards the ownership of the evergreen in the house in winter is not met without controversy.

Each year somehow and usually media driven ...hear ye... hear ye!! paints a portrait of the awfulness of marketing.

It comes up bubbling like a volcano.

As the volcano can remain quiet for years and bubbles with heat ... then eventually blows..

I’m not much on debating which is the right or wrong.

There are sides to each story.

Earth has been around for sometime now.

Nature is not driven by opinions or emotions.

It cycles and moves.

The fact is the sun is not around that much these days where I live .

And I have the greatest of ideas!

Go to a farm with live evergreen trees, cut it down, wrap it and somehow get it into the house.

Trim accordingly and decorate with lights and tchotchkes.

And if I see my neighbors while doing so, I’ll chatter about the weather.

Its always changing you know, living and surrounding myself with the four seasons.

The sun will rotate back soon.

The events are for social media newbies as well as the digital die-hards. Coming along to Be Good Be Social will help you understand:

- The practicalities of where to start with social media.

- The benefits of Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, blogging and beyond for third sector organisations.

- The risks involved in your organisation’s social media presence.

- Strategies for effectively engaging with supporters, donors and partners.

- How you can measure your social media success.

Be Good Be Social wouldn’t have evolved as quickly as it has without the support of the third sector sounding board which includes Stuart Glen (One Kind), Marc Bowker (Quarriers), Hugh Wallace (Scottish Museums), Sara Thomas (MND Scotland), Clare McDowall (Oxfam Scotland), Rosie McIntosh (Oxfam Scotland), Julia Morrison (SCVO) and Marie Duguid (The Melting Pot).

The big square "parcel van" is somewhat of an American road transport icon. There are many variants on the theme from different manufacturers. The major parcel couriers are big customers for this type of vehicle, this FedEx example is typical. None of the makers trade much for practicality when it comes to styling or aesthetics! Most, but not all have automatic transmissions. Sliding cab entrance doors, tip-up seats and access to the loadspace via the cab bulkhead are standard features.

The Renault Modus is a mini multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) produced by the French manufacturer Renault from September 2004 to 2012, in Valladolid, Spain. The production version is very similar to the concept car of the same name, which was presented at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show. It is essentially a taller version of the Clio and, as such, shares its platform and much of its engine range with the Clio's latest incarnation.

Originally marketed as "a higher-range alternative to the Twingo and Clio", it is targeted at people who want the practicality and versatility of the larger Renault Scénic but without the added size. The Clio platform that spawned the Modus also gave rise to the current Nissan Micra and its monospace relative, the Nissan Note.

Yesterday at Voles

"The Voles started appearing in dribs and drabs.

1st Vole: That’s a nice Drab you’ve got there.

2nd Vole: Thanks, my old Drib was getting a bit drab so I thought I’d change it for a Drab.

1st Vole: Is that the one that at the mere push of the off-road button, it turns into a highly capable off-road vehicle, adept at climbing slippery slopes, descending steep hills and maintaining control on difficult terrain using the very latest 4x4 systems. Does the interior meet even the most exacting of standards, the cabin spacious, airy and flexible and containing a variety of standard features and does it take safety very seriously too, so all the trims have driver and passenger, front, side and curtain airbags as standard.

2nd Vole: I don’t know, but it’s silver.

1st Vole: Oh.

Just then Mr T. Strode into their midst.

3rd Vole: Hey, watch my midst. You’re striding right into it!

Mr T.: Right, listen up. You all remember what you did when we were last here.

1st Vole: It wasn’t me, I wasn’t here.

2nd Vole: She told me to do it, honest.

3rd Vole: I didn’t do it and even if I did, you can’t prove it ‘cause I burnt the evidence.

4th Vole: I’m clinically insane, no court in the land will convict me.

The remaining Voles looked sheepish. It was the thick Arran sweaters that did it.

Mr T.: I mean planting the trees in straight rows, two point five metres apart. However so that it doesn’t look like you’ve planted them in straight rows, two point five metres apart, you shall only plant them in straight rows in one direction and not the other. So where the canes have been put in straight lines, two point five metres apart, it will be your job to follow on behind planting the trees in a straight line in one direction but not the other and more than or less than two point five metres apart. Remember?

The Voles remembered and several fainted, two had the recurrence of their nose bleeds and three again escaped across the fields. [Note to self; must replace the razor wire with electric fencing].

Mr T.: Anyway so that we can plant another 900 this week I want you to get into four groups of three. One making holes, one planting and one putting the guards on.

1st Vole: What do the other nine do?

Mr T.: What other nine?

1st Vole: Well if three are doing what you said that leaves nine watching.

Mr T. Speaking slowly: No, I want four group of three and in each group one will make holes, one will plant and one will put guards on.

2nd Vole: So the lines are already there?

Mr T. Speaking slowly and quietly: No, one group will measure out leaving three groups to do the planting, except that I’m going to do some pruning so the other two can help the other groups.

3rd Vole: So two groups will be four?

Mr. T. Speaking very slowly and quietly: Yes.

4th Vole: So there will be one group of three measuring the lines, two groups of four doing the work of three, one group of three and one pruning?

Mr. T. Speaking very slowly and very quietly: Yes.

5th Vole: What happens when Maryla comes?

Mr. T. Speaking very slowly, very quietly and sobbing: We can have another group of three with Maryla and the two who were in the two groups of four.

6th Vole: What happens when Ros comes?

Mr. T. Speaking very slowly, very quietly, sobbing and pulling out chunks of hair: I’ll sort it out later.

1st Vole to 2nd Vole as they wander off in the general direction of where they are going: Typical management, never think things through. Anyway this Drab of yours, it seems to me it strikes the perfect balance between on road performance, family orientated practicality and rugged 4x4 styling and with a choice of two or four wheel drive systems on both diesel and petrol engines, as well as flexible varioflex rear seating, sizable boot space and higher ride height as standard, it is perfect for life in towns and cities.

2nd Vole: I like the colour.

Later that same day:

Mr T.: Okay then, I think we’re all happy now?

Voles: Oh no we’re not

Mr T.: Oh yes we are.

Voles: Oh no, we’re not.

Mr T.: I see, it’s the pantomime season is it?

Voles: Oh no it isn’t.

Mr T.: Oh yes it is.

Voles: Behind youuuuuuu.

Mr T.: I’m not falling for that.

Even later that same day:

3rd Vole to 4th Vole: Who’s going to tell him Jock peed up his leg?

Thanks to:- The Venerable Buxton for the gallons of tea and the hot pot, Lady Buxton for the Badger pudding, [no badger was culled in the making or eating of this pudding], and everyone who worked so manfully and womanfully throughout the day.

Malcolm"

See what we have to suffer on Tuesdays! I am glad I was late for the briefing so didn't hear any of the instructions as I wouldn't have understood them anyway :)

This is so close to being studless due to the studs on the 1x4x1 roof tile. The main reason behind the use of these was to create a transition to the narrower roof. But you've gotta do what you wanna do, I guess...

Being the kind of guy to add in as much detail possible, I think I didn't do too bad of a job getting in everything necessary. And just for practicality (even though it's unnecessary), you've gotta have a windscreen wiper, right?

The Citroën Revolte is a hybrid compact city concept car that was presented by Citroën at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The Revolte is based on the historical Citroën 2CV.[2] The concept car shows the changes that have been happening in terms of the role small cars and that style and elegance have become as important as economy and practicality.

The Revolte concept features Citroën’s bold design, which has become part of its history bringing a new contemporary approach to its compact city cars.

The Revolte is 3.68m long, 1.73m wide and 1.35m tall. With well defined wheel arches, curving bonnet, forceful lines and sculpted sides, matching the roof line, the Revolte has a sleek and elegant profile, similar to that of the Citroen Survolt, a concept hybrid supercar still under development by Citroen.

Stunning new accommodation at Lancashire County Council's outdoor education centre on the shores of Lake Windermere has been officially opened.

The eye-catching design of the £2.9m new building at Tower Wood, stepped over several levels, has been tailored to meet the strict requirements of the picturesque site in the Lake District National Park.

The accommodation will allow up to 60 visitors to stay in 26 mainly twin-bedded rooms, some of which have been fully adapted to allow children and young people with disabilities and their families to make full use of Tower Wood's exciting outdoor facilities.

Declaring the building open, Lancashire County Council's chairman Kevin Ellard said: "Designing a new building for a world-class location such as this is a real challenge and I think the result is an inspiring combination of beauty and practicality, a tribute to the vision of both councillors and staff.

To score on sustainability, the building has high levels of thermal insulation, airtight construction, air-source heat pumps, and a sedum-planted roof facing east.

Tower Wood is mainly used by schools in Lancashire, Blackpool and Blackburn with Darwen, for water-based activities such as sailing, canoeing and kayaking, and also rock climbing, mountaineering, caving and mountain-biking.

For years, Tower Wood has welcomed thousands of schoolchildren and young people, often giving them a real sense of achievement as they have tried out new activities and discovered what they're capable of.

Another shot from my favorite area under the Manhattan Bridge. After I took the picture of the kids playing with the fire hydrant (look just down my stream), this lady came out to use it for her mop. I love Chinese practicality.

John Dando Sedding (1838–1891) like William Morris, Philip Webb and Norman Shaw, was a pupil of George Edmund Street. In 1876 Sedding met John Ruskin, under whose influence he developed a freer Gothic style, introducing natural ornament into his designs. Sedding encouraged his students to study old buildings at first hand, focusing on the practicalities of craft techniques. He placed an emphasis on texture and ornament; the naturalistic treatment of flowers, leaves and animals, always drawn from life; and the close involvement of the architect in the simple processes of building and in the supervision of a team of craftsmen employed direct.

Ford's forth generation Focus, codenamed C519 launched in 2018, replacing the previous C346 Focus in markets outside North America.

One semi-crossover variant, the Focus Active, was due to be built in China for export to the US, but was cancelled due to a trade dispute.

The C519 model retained the 5-door hatchback, saloon and estate models of the previous version, with the added Active variant a high-riding version of the hatchback or estate.

Most Focus C519 models are powered by 3-cylinder Ecoboost engines of 1.0L or 1.5L capacity, while 1.5L and 2.0L Panther 4-cylinder diesels are available, but with lower customer takeup due to market shift away from Diesels. A 2.3L Ecoboost is available in the performance ST trim.

The model shown is the high-specification Titanium Hatchback in one of the louder reddish-orange hues, which currently resides in my driveway (not driving much during COVID) as my company car.

I love the colour, and the practicality and functional performance are strong points. The fuel economy, and the lack of luxury feel are negatives.

310 Claydon Way is located in one of the finer neighborhoods of Sacramento. Having the advantage of being almost riverside, access to the American River Parkway and bicycle path is just one block from the home, providing lovely walks through incredible natural scenery and wildlife.

Year round, this beautiful neighborhood known as Wilhaggin, shows off its aesthetic pride with floral blossoms and blooms. Unlike other fine neighborhoods in the Sacramento area, Wilhaggin is mostly composed of sprawling single story dwellings. with wide streets, sidewalks and street lights.

The "ambiance" of this kind of neighborhood intention is palpable -- quietude, modest elegance, comfortable curb appeal, an abundance of mature and establish landscaping and shade trees.

Back when these houses were made in the sixties -- before magazine living lifestyle took over and replaced practicality with the discomforts of looking sharp -- strong bones and durability were time-honored architectural concepts. Pleasing oneself was more important than pleasing the neighbors, so the focus of the aesthetic addressed things like "hot summers", "colder winters" and the need for shade and light.

There were many independent builders at that time who became famous for their designs and also for their creative concepts for creating ideal settings for a river-living climate.

Among those that rose to fame, Lewis & Bristow are known for their comfortable living designs that centered around poolside appreciation. Shaped like a "U", 310 Claydon Way has three giant sliders that open up onto a giant back yard patio. The patio has roll-down awnings for late afternoon sun shade but also lends itself to an outside office or enclosed dinner-time eating.

The automated irrigation system has just been completely restored and upgraded. Other changes that have been done recently include brand new carpet, new paint and a remodeled entry way.

The grounds are fully established and mature. There are an abundance of roses and azaleas which bloom seasonally. The redwood trees on the property and surrounding the property in the backyard are invaluable for shade and beauty.

And 310 Claydon Way is loaded with all manner of little details of this nature which make it easy to maintain with a minimal amount of work. A truly beautiful home with over 3100 square feet, 310 Claydon way has been called "Shangri La" and has particularly great appeal to a buyer who loves outdoor living as much as indoor living.

Single generation of the Matiz, a small city car sold by Daewoo between 1998 and 2004. With only 3,50 m in length, the small Matiz offered practicality within a small, urban friendly footprint. Beginning in 2004 the Matiz was sold under the Chevrolet brand, though the car itself did not change.

NEUROMAGIC AND SHERLOCK

As is often pointed out in portrayals of Sherlock Holmes; "we see but do not observe". Our cognitive biases distort and filter how we think constantly. We are always under control of stereotyping, conformational bias, default effects and much more, basically as magicians know;

"we cannot believe what we see but we see what we believe"

The good news is that we do not need to be at the mercy of these thinking fallacies. As neuroscience shows us, we can change. Some go as far as to say that we actually have "infinite plasticity". In other words, there is no limit to how much we can change ourselves and how we think.

Neuromagic is brand new field of neuroscience that is being used to understand how magic changes us. This in turn informs how we think, how we see the world and what we believe about ourselves and others. For just one example of how magic is being used with neuroscience to study Change Blindness, go to mindsways.com/SMS#Neuromagic

The Sleight of Mind Set workshops use the principle that "all is not as it appears" to be able to illustrate how we see the world. This in turn affects how we act, think and behave, just as the study of neuromagic shows us. The SNT kit, which you receive on the day, has the tools built within it for us to change, to make use of the "infinite plasticity" we all have and to do so with entertaining and enlightening ways. To see more, please go to mindsways.com/SMS/

TAPPING INTO THE POPULARITY - New Blockbuster

On the day we talk about the enduring allure and popularity that mystery, the paranormal and Mind Magic has. Magic is never far out of the popular sphere with Derren Brown filling theatres and drawing large TV audiences. Part of the popularity is down to the fact that it "May just be real". This is also shown by the new blockbuster film, Now You See Me.

This new film is based on the premise of what if the impossible was real. Starring Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Mark Ruffalo, Jesse Eisenberg and Isla Fisher, the film shows the hold that magic has over our imagination. It also gives us an insight into how popular magic is, and a fascinating glimpse into what it would be like to have real powers. To see more about the film, please go to mindsways.com/SMS/#NowYouSeeMe.

Today, to stand out we need the personal touch and the sleight of mind set workshop is about tapping into this popularity of mind magic and adding value through your delivery and the personal touch.

Our aim is to make day informative, entertaining and practical for you. People have attended for many reasons including:

Curiosity (just how was that done)

Learning something new

Interest in how the mind works

Adding variety to enliven their presentations

New and different approaches

Something to impress others with

An increased reputation

A channel for their passion and fascination

Wider perspectives and experiences

The real power of Mind Magic and Psychological Artistry lies not with just the tricks, but the effect that the delivery of the tricks have on people, tapping into the emotions of mystery combined with the personal touch and firing off the silent questions. On the workshops and in the SNT kit, we give you the tricks, however, learning to use them with what you do is where the real power lies.

By delivering these tricks, you can evoke the making of the extraordinary. By combining the tricks with the energy of your words, your message and your personality, you make yourself stand out, stimulate fascination and create interest in you. This is when the real magic happens, in the theatre of the minds.

In communications theory the saying "it's not us, its them" has great importance. Likewise in Psychological Artistry and in our Sleight of Mind Set workshops these take on a very important role. For more on this, please go to mindsways.com/SMS/

THEATRE OF THE MIND - Tricks on 3 Levels

On the workshop we uncover tricks, look at making a trick into an effect and making the effect into a piece that works for you. The three levels we work on are:

Effect of a trick - triggers "how did you do that?"

Analysis of a trick - triggers "why does this trick work? Why does the effect happen?"

Practicality of a trick - explores how you can use the tricks

This involves using a combination of Psychology, Neuroscience, Smart Thinking and the ideas, tools and techniques from Mind Magic. The principles and lessons are useful in understanding our belief systems, how we think and act. It is in our minds that we experience emotions, thoughts and actions. These are in turn determined by the silent questions we ask ourselves.

We use Mind Magic effects as a reflection of how the mind works. We use the 3 levels above as a lens to increase our understanding how our minds control our actions, emotions and thoughts. It is through this that our minds tell us stories that justify our actions.

For more on this, please see mindsways.com/SMS/

WHAT DO I GET ON THE WORKSHOPS?

All of these will be demonstrated and explained with practical advice on their use in the workshop. The day will use both the Show, Not Tell kit and the Sleight of Mind Set (each available separately but are included as part of the day. For more information, visit the SNT kit.) Using the materials from the SNT and SMS, you will discover a wealth of practical, real world techniques that can be applied to coaching, training, consultancy, presenting, goal setting, business, personal development and therapy.

As well as the delivery of the SNT and SMS, we will explore why we believe what we do, why we believe weird things. The workshop weaves a path through Psychological Artistry, Mind Magic, neuroscience and practical delivery methods.

Innovation and creativity lies at the heart of Psychological Artistry and Mind Magic, so whether you are already actively engaged in using your creative skills or just looking to stimulate and nurture your creativity, you will find practical tools for releasing the spirit of innovation and creativity on the Sleight of Mind Set workshop. To register your place on the Sleight of Mind Set Workshop, please go to mindsways.com/SMS

THE FEEDBACK

The feedback from the workshops have been extremely positive, with people (from last weeks workshops) saying things like:

"It really was most enjoyable and enlightening"

"The most unique training day I have ever been on"

"My target was to get 3 things to add to my training, I had 11 by lunchtime"

"Fantastic day... a great eye opener!"

"Another great course, with plenty to think about and over"

The workshops have been enjoyed and shown to be beneficial to many people over the past year. The events have been attended and proved to be relevant to people from a wide range of backgrounds including entrepreneurs, business consultants, health professionals, coaches of life, performance and sports, therapists, hypnotherapists, trainers etc.

This is an unorthodox approach to understanding human behaviour, illustrating and promoting our messages, and this is where the real power lies. As Marty Neumeier says in ZAG " Be Different - NO Really Different". For more on what people say, please see mindsways.com/WPS/

WHAT IS PSYCHOLOGICAL ARTISTRY?

A couple of interesting examples of how all is not as it appears are the McGurk effect and Prof Richard Wiseman's "The Incredible Colour Changing Card Effect". Please take a look here or visit mindsways.com/SMS. I would love to know what you think. These illustrate both the power and the approach of psychological artistry.

This programme is good for anyone looking for something different and to stimulate new styles of thinking.

This sharp concept was introduced at the 2004 North American International Auto Show. It is not a sedan, wagon, SUV or any other kind of vehicle, but simultaneously conveys presence and practicality. The Nomad is based on GM's Kappa architecture, which also served as the foundation for the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky.

Jaguar Cars Ltd., better known simply as Jaguar is a British luxury car manufacturer, headquartered in Coventry, England. It has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Indian company Tata Motors Ltd. since March 2008 and is operated as part of the Jaguar Land Rover business.

Jaguar was founded as the Swallow Sidecar Company by Sir William Lyons in 1922, originally making motorcycle sidecars before switching to passenger cars. The name was changed to Jaguar after World War II due to the unfavourable connotations of the SS initials.

The Jaguar D-Type, like its predecessor the C-Type, was a factory-built race car. Although it shared the basic straight-6 XK engine design (initially 3.4L and eventually uprated to 3.8 litres in the late fifties) with the C-Type, the majority of the car was radically different. Perhaps its most ground-breaking innovation was the introduction of a monocoque chassis, which not only introduced aircraft-style engineering to competition car design, but also an aeronautical understanding of aerodynamic efficiency. The D-Type was introduced purely for competition, but after Jaguar withdrew from racing, the company offered the remaining, unfinished chassis as the roadgoing Jaguar XKSS, by making changes to the racers: adding an extra seat, another door, a full-width windshield and primitive folding top, as concessions to practicality. However, on the evening of 12 February 1957, a fire broke out at the Browns Lane plant destroying nine of the twenty five cars that had already been completed or in semi-completion. Production is thought to have included 53 customer D-Types, 18 factory team cars, and 16 XKSS versions.

The new chassis followed aircraft engineering practice, being manufactured according to monocoque principles. The central tub, within which the driver sat, was formed from sheets of aluminium alloy. To this was attached an aluminium tubing subframe carrying the bonnet, engine, front suspension, and steering assembly. The rear suspension and final drive were mounted directly onto the monocoque itself. Fuel was carried in deformable bags inside cells within the monocoque; another aircraft innovation.

The highly efficient, aerodynamic bodywork was largely the work of Malcolm Sayer, who joined Jaguar following a stint with the Bristol Aeroplane Company during World War II. Although he also worked on the C-Type, the limitations of the conventional separate-chassis did not allow full expression of his talent. For the D-Type, Sayer insisted on a minimal frontal area. To reduce its height, Haynes and former-Bentley engineer Walter Hassan developed dry sump lubrication for the XK engine. By also canting the engine over by 8° (resulting in the trademark, off-centre bonnet bulge) the reduction in area was achieved. Care was taken to reduce drag due to the underbody, resulting in an unusually high top speed; for the long Mulsanne Straight at Le Mans, a large vertical stabiliser was mounted behind the driver's head for aerodynamic stability with minimum drag. For the 1955 season, factory cars were fitted with a revised, long-nose version of the bodywork, which increased top speed even further.

Mechanically, many features were shared with the outgoing C-Type. The ground-breaking disc brakes were retained, as was the XK engine. Apart from the new lubrication system, as development progressed during the D-Type's competition life the engine was also revised. 1955 saw the introduction of larger valves, and an asymmetrical cylinder head design within which to accommodate them. The Jaguar D-Type was the second racing car to have Dunlop disk brakes. The Citroën DS, introduced a year later, was the first production car with disk brakes in Europe. The Crosley Hotshot was the first American automobile with disk brakes, in 1949.
