To aficionados of post offices, you may notice an oddity about this post office. No RAMPS. I checked the third side and no ramp there either. There may be one in back, but I've never seen a post office (since I've been taking these pictures) that was above grade without a ramp in front or on the side. Very unusual. If anyone has a theory, please feel free to share. I COULD simply call them and ask, but that would be too easy. It's more fun to wildly speculate and come up with some tasty conspiracy theories.

Taken the morning after Hurricane Gonzalo hit the island of St. Martin. 06.36 14-10-2014. As we arrived at the beach, nearly all of the beach bars had been destroyed. Pretty soon the "heavens opened up" but my Trusty D300 survived thank goodness.
Recently re-seen in one of my hard drives.
Our 52 week group has a Red theme for this week (at my suggestion). A post on the hidden poems I wrote for my dad in my Skyfisher build.
With a day off, Grady and I set off for a little central Illinois exploration. I had wanted to get a couple of trains on the NS Brooklyn District around Midway Siding as it was protected by bracket post signals and searchlights at both ends. I believe these signals date from when the N&W single tracked the Brooklyn District from BD Jct (Decatur) to Poag Jct (Edwardsville area). Curiously, from Winston Interlocking south became CTC but Litchfield north stayed ABS. Midway siding is roughly "mid-way" between Litchfield and Taylorville with the south switch at Raymond and the north switch at Harvel. Bonus in my book was Triple Crown train 260 rolling north past the South Siding Switch of Midway in Raymond, IL. 8320 was tugging on a monster train of roadrailers!

The Red Posts are said to mark the route the convicts were taken along before being transported to Australia. Another theory is that they marked the locations of gibbets; many convicts were hanged before transportation if they were struggling along the way.
But factual evidence indicates that the post was a marker or reference point for illiterate guards who were escorting prisoners from Dorchester prison to Portsmouth from where they were transported to Botany Bay, Australia.
This one has been on my to-do list for a while.
