American Speedfest 8 Returned to Brands Hatch for another Fantastic American themed weekend Featuring the likes of Euro Nascar Legends and even Angelo American Formula 5000's Racing this weekender event was shaping up to be a good one.

 

The First Day was mostly focused on Qualifying with many of the Races taking Place on the Sunday. Each of the Teams was both busy in the outer Paddock and the Pitlane getting their cars ready for a shakedown session in which they would have to Qualify to see who could be the Fastest and take Pole Position for each of the Races come Sunday.

 

Angelo American Formula 5000

 

The Formula 5000's made a Thunderous return to the Brands Hatch circuit, Built during a time where many Formula 1 cars from the likes of Lotus Williams and McLaren we using Ground Effect and pushing up the speeds of their cars.

 

Formula 5000's took speeds to a whole new level by using V8 Engines to power their cars which were found to be even faster than those Formula 1 cars of that era on the straights of different race tracks. Chevron B37's and McRae GM1'S were amongst the field and Qualifying looked to be very close indeed.

 

In First Place taking Pole Position and The Fastest Lap was (Neil Glover) in his Chevron B37 with a Lap Time of 47.039 with an average speed of 92.44mph. An Insanely Fast Lap Time for Brands Hatches Indy Circuit.

 

In Second Place was (Mark Campfield) in his Chevron B24 with A Lap Time Of 47.694 and an Average Speed of 91.17mph still Impressively quick for Chevron Power.

 

In Third Place was (Greg Thornton) in his Chevron B24 with A Lap Time Of 47.775 with an Average Speed of 91.02mph showing the power of the Chevron Engine through every turn.

 

A Tightly Packed Grid for Sundays Race and it looks like its a Chevron Front Row lockout but who's car will have the power to Triumph over the others? only time will tell.

 

Bernie's Sports And V8's

 

Bernie's V8's were up next and showcased a lot of Impressive V8 Powered Machinery on the grid. Talbot Sunbeams, Austin Healey's and even MGB GT V8 powered Machinery hitting the Track during Qualifying. Lets see what V8 Power can do and which Drivers managed to tame the Beasts and make it into the top three.

 

In First Place Taking Pole Position and the Fastest Lap was the Duo of (Elis Mar/Elis Mat) in their Talbot Sunbeam Lotus with a Lap Time of 54.533 and an Average speed of 79.74mph. Fast and Furious Driving on display once again.

 

In Second Place was (James Plant) in his Austin Healey 106 with a Lap Time of 54.964 and an Average Speed of 79.11mph. Very Quick and Consistent Laps seen from James behind the wheel too.

 

In Third Place was the Duo of (Can/Wilson) in their Aston Martin V8 Vantage with a lap time of 55.397 and an Average speed of 78.49mph. Showing just how much power and Grunt that Aston has.

 

Another Fantastic set of V8 Powered Machines on Display showing the true power of the American Built V8'S and how they changed the game in terms of Racing and Road Going Cars. Who will win the Race on Sunday. Will have to wait and see.

 

Legends Cars Championship

 

Referred to as the Little Pocket Rockets these small Looking Cars may not loo like they have anything Special to offer but just wait until you see what these little Wolves in Sheep's clothing can do once out on the Track.

 

Using Motorbike Engines of 1200cc they Really do show on Track just how lightweight and fast they are and Slip Streaming is commonly a way of being able to Achieve a Faster Lap time by using the Driver in fronts Slip Stream to aid in the Aerodynamics of the Car and Reduce Drag. Lets see what Happened during Qualifying Heat 2

 

In First Place Taking Pole and Setting The Fastest Lap was (Chris Dewey) in his Legend with a Lap Time Of 56.700 with an Average Speed of 76.69mph. Crazy Fast for Something so small and yet very Agile in Control.

 

In Second Place was (Stephen Whitelegg) in his Legend 34 Ford Coupe with a Lap Time of 56.740 and an Average Speed of 76.64mph. First And Second look to be very close together Thanks to the aids in Slip Streaming down the Brabham Straight to gain positions or Fastest Laps.

 

In Third Place was (Miles Rudman) in his Legend 34 Coupe with a Lap Time Of 56.878. Very Close between the Top three and it just goes to show how Important Slip Streaming is to Gain an Advantage in this Qualifying Session.

 

Exciting Stuff Ahead of The

Legends Races on Sunday where One of the Drivers will Win the Race and Take the Victory, Who Will it be? Only Time Will Tell.

 

Nascar Whelen Euro Series-Pro

 

The Main Highlight Event of the Day and the Nascar's with their Thunderous Powered V8 Engines Roared onto the Indy Circuit and with Two Formation Laps Completed to Warm Up the Tyres every car was released to Start Qualifying. Lets See How the Grid Will Shape Up.

 

In First Place to Take Pole and The Fastest Lap was (Alon Day) in his Chevrolet Camaro Caal Racing with a Lap Time of 48.903 and an Average Speed of 88.92mph. I wonder if Marty McFly and Dock Brown were part of their Race Team to Achieve that Impressive Lap Time? Non the Less Amazing Work by Alon Day.

 

In Second Place was (Loris Hezemans) in his Ford Mustang Hedrik's Motorsport) with a Lap Time of 49.000 and an Average Speed of 88.74mph. Another Fast and Consistent Lap From Loris showing the Balance Between Driver and Car.

 

In Third Place was (Nicolo Rocca) in his Chevrolet Camaro DF1 Racing) with A Lap Time of 49.292 and an Average Speed of 88.22mph. All Three Drivers seem to be very close in terms of Lap Times and this will make for some Exciting Racing Come Race Day.

 

Close and Competitive Racing in Nascar-Pro but who will have the Power to Push even Harder and take Home The Victory come Race Day. We will have to wait and See.

 

EuroNascar-2

 

Euro Nascar-2 is A a series of Slightly Lower Tuned Nascar's that Features as a Way of Getting Drivers ready to head to the Big Time Nascar Racing that takes Place at Daytona and Indianapolis.

 

Drivers must First Prove themselves worthy by Starting out from the Bottom and Only The Best Drivers in the World can make it into Nascar's Top Level Racing Teams.

 

Lets See how the Grid Lines up and see who managed to Qualify the Fastest and take Pole Position.

 

In First Place and Taking Pole Position and The Fastest Lap was (Advait DeoDHar) in his Ford Mustang Caal Racing with A Lap Time Of 49.918 and An Average Speed of 87.11mph. A Really Well Controlled Lap and a very Focused Mind to Achieve such a Drive.

 

In Second Place was (Tobias Dauenhauer) in his Ford Mustang Hendriks Motorsport with a Lap Time Of 50.110 and an Average Speed Of 86.78mph. Really Well Done and a very Quick Driver and Car underneath Him.

 

In Third Place was (Justin Kunz ) in his Chevrolet Camaro DF1 Racing with A Lap Time Of 50.161. Very Fast and Consistent with the Top Three all Very Close and Ready to take on the Race and see who can Battle and Fight for a Victory.

 

An Exciting Qualifying Session for both Nascar-Pro and Euro Nascar-2 with Each set of Driver Showing the Speed Power and Machinery of the Great American State. Looking Forward To Seeing what Happens During The Race.

 

Pickup Trucks Championship

 

The Pickup Trucks Returned to Brands Hatch for Another High Speed Weekend of Flat Out Racing around the Indy Circuit. With Light Weight Chassis and Powerful Engines it was shaping up to be a very Large and Competitive Grid for Pickup Trucks.

 

In First Place Taking Pole Position and the Fastest Lap was (Reece Jones) in his Pick Up Truck 2000 with a Lap Time of 52.634 with an Average Speed of 82.61mph.

 

In Second Place was (George Turiccki) in his Pickup Truck 2000 with A Lap Time of 52.706mph and an average speed of 82.50mph.

 

In Third Place was (Mark Willis) in his Pickup Truck 2000 with A Lap Time of 52.976 and an Average Speed of 82.08mph.

 

Three Very Quick and Capable Drivers all Fighting for the Victory In Tomorrow's Race but who will be up to the challenge of Taking 1st Place and Winning. Only One Way To Find Out.

 

Speedfest Silhouettes

 

Formally Known as the Silhouettes the Super Silhouettes Brought with them some fast and impressive Space Frame Machinery to the track.

 

With Aero Packages and Light Weight Monacock Chassis these Monsters were going to be something Amazing to watch Race.

 

But First Lets See how Qualifying Shapes up.

 

In First Place Taking Pole and The Fastest Lap was (Ray Harris in his Ginetta G40r with a Lap Time of 50.564 and an Average speed of 86.00mph. Either Crazy or Insane I would Describe that Incredible Lap of Brands. Amazing Work.

 

In Second Place was (Malcom Blackman) in his Vauxhall Tigra with A Lap Time of 50.805 and an Average Speed of 85.59mph Another Crazy Quick and on the Edge Lap.

 

In Third Place was (Lewis Smith) in his Mercedes SLK with a Lap Time of 51.313 and an Average Speed of 84.74mph. Three Very Fast and Capable Drivers in this Qualifying Session.

 

Incredible Speed and Fast Reflex Driving From Each Driver out there. It will be Exciting to see who can bring home a Victory and push their Machinery past its Limits and into New Territory. Another Race I'm Looking Forward to Seeing.

The three shots that show a nearby Quonset hut were apparently shot from the same elevation, probably the second or third floor.

 

Note the position of this utility pole in relation to the windows and doors behind it. ONE and THREE are almost identical but TWO was shot from a point several feet to the left.

 

I am guessing that means there were two windows in the room.

 

THREE is also tilted slightly as compared to the other two.

 

The Iconic Ford Power Live Event took Place at Brands Hatch to Celebrate The Blue Badged Ford Motor Company and their Iconic Cars From both the Past and The Present. From Escort Mexico's to Modern Ford Mustang GT'S there was Everything for the Ford Enthusiast to enjoy.

 

The Support Races Featured During the Day were also Full of Different Makes and Models of Ford Racing Cars From The Focus RS to the Ford Escort and the Iconic Sierra Cosworth and even the Iconic Enduro KA series was Present and with Drivers and Spectators Ready the Racing was about to begin.

Champion Of Brands (Qualifying)

 

First up Champion of Brands and with Fast and High Speed Action from Thease Machines Lets See who took that all important People Position to Start the Race in P1.

 

In First Place was (Tom Mills) in his Spectrum KMR with a Best Lap Time of 50.154 and a Top Speed of 86.70mph. Amazing work there Tom a truly Heroic and Brave Drive for Pole Position.

 

In Second Place was (Niall Murray) in his Van Diemen BD21 with a Best Lap Time of 50.397 and a Top Speed of 86.28mph. Fantastic Work Niall Very Fast and Quick Driving.

 

In Third Place was (Colin Queen) in his Ray GR18 with a Best Lap Time of 50.399 and a Top Speed of 86.28mph. Another Incredible Driver in Colin Pushing Hard and Almost Taking Second Place from Niall. I think we are in for some Really Intense Racing but who will be Fast Enough to on Track to Take Victory?

After a Thrilling Battle that saw Tom Mills take Pole Position its time to find out who Won the Race and out of The Top Three Could Anyone else on the Grid Challenge them for a Spot on the Podium. Lets Find Out.

 

In First Place and taking the Win was (Niall Murray) in his Van Diemen BD21 with a Lap Time of 50.518 and an Average Speed of 77.40mph. Incredible work there Niall Beating back Tom to take Victory in the First Race and a Well Determined Drive to Secure it.

 

In Second Place was (Tom Mills) in his Spectrum KMR with a Lap Time of 50.706 and an Average Speed of 77.38mph. Amazing Drive there Tom Keeping up with Niall and a Fantastic Battle thought the entire Race too.

 

In Third Place was (Colin Queen) in his RAY GR18 with a Lap Time of 50.820 and an Average Speed of 77.32mph. A Great Victory for Third Place on the Podium Colin showing a Determined Drive and a lot of Bravery thought the Race.

Race 2 Up Next and The Final Time for Anyone Racing in Champion of Brands to Score Points and Take Victory in either First Second or Third Place. After a Thrilling End to Race 1 which Saw Tom Mills getting Beaten by Niall Murray it was time to see who could Once Again bring the Roar and Thunder Home for a Final Time.

 

In First Place was (Niall Murray) in his Van Diemen BD21 with a Lap Time of 50.584 and an Average Speed of 84.84mph. Another Incredible Drive from Niall to once again take The Final Pole Position for Champion of Brands. Brilliant Drive there Niall.

 

In Second Place was (Tom Mills) in his Spectrum KMR with a Lap Time of 50.606 and an Average Speed of 84.47mph. Another Well Deserved Second Place for Tom Showing Incredible Car Control and Bravery Pushing the Limits on Every Corner to Keep up with Niall. Fantastic Drive Tom.

 

In Third Place was (Lucan Romenek) in his Van Diemen JL13 with a Lap Time of 50.927 and an Average Speed of 83.92mph. Very Well Done there Lucan Fantastic to see a New Driver take a Step onto the Podium and Celebrate the Victory.

 

What an Exciting Opening Day here at Brands Hatch for Ford Power Live with Champion of Brands Providing some Well Deserved Winners in Niall Tom Lucan and Colin. Clubman Sports Prototypes were up next and thease Mad Looking Machines are known for their Supreme Aerodynamics as well as Insane Straight Line Speed. each Driver will have to be on the ball and Keeping their Machine under Constant Control as they will be Powering round this 1,2 mile Indy Circuit at Speeds of at Least 90mph.

 

Lets Look to the Track to see who Qualified where and see who will be starting the Race on Pole.

 

In First Place and taking Pole Position was (Steve Dickens) in his Mallock MK29 with a Best Lap Time of 47.146 and a Top Speed of 92.23mph. Amazing Drive there Steve Very Fast and Committed for Pole Position.

 

In Second Place was (Clive Wood) in his Mallock MK23 with a Best Lap Time of 47.784 and a Top Speed of 91.00mph. Well Deserved there Clive Pushing that Mallock for all its worth and taking Second Place.

In Second Place was (Steve Dickens) in his Mallock MK29 with a Lap Time of 47.986 and an Average Speed of 88.17mph. Very Well Done again Steve Putting in a lot of Hard work to Reach Second Place.

Now it was time for the Creative Solutions Sports 2000's to hit the Track and After a Thunderous Performance by the Classic Clubman's Lets see what thease Mean Machines Have to Offer. With Speeds once again Reaching Nearly 92mph thease cars are Monsters and Driving and Controlling One is going to be Very Challenging with all that Break Horse Power.

 

Lets take a Look at Qualifying and see which Drivers made it to the Front end of the Grid for Race 1.

 

In First Place Taking Pole Position and the Fastest Lap was ( Neil Burroughs) in his Gunn TS12 with a Best Lap Time of 47.202 and a Top Speed of 92.12mph. Fantastic work there Neil Once Again showing the Skill and Commitment Needed for a Championship Winning Drive.

What a Fantastic Qualifying Session with Battles Happening all over the Field but Neil Tom and Josh have made it into the Top Three and so Lets Find out in Race 1 which of them will be Taking Home Victory.

In First Place and Taking Victory was (Tom Stoten) in his Gunn TS11 with a Lap Time of 48.471 and an Average Speed of 62.75mph. Amazing Work Tom taking yourself from P2 in Qualifying to P1 and The First Race Win, Incredible Drive.

 

In Second Place was (Michel Gibbins) in his MCR S2 with a Lap Time of 48.457 and an average Speed of 62.69mph. Fantastic Work Michel and a Really Strong Drive to take P2 in the Race. A Fantastic Drive.

 

In Third Place was (Giles Billingsley) in his MCR S2 with a Lap Time of 49.321 and an Average Speed of 62.31mph. Awesome Work there Giles a Brilliant Drive to Get P3 and the Last Spot on the Podium.

After a Really Hectic First Race which saw Tom Stoden Take P1 followed by Michel Gibbins and Giles Billingsley it was Time for Race 2. Lets see if Anyone Else can Challenge these Almighty Three Drivers at the Front of the Field.

 

In First Place was (Joshua Law) in his MCR S2 with a Lap Time of 47.878 and an Average Speed of 70.46mph. Incredible Drive for Joshua Taking P1 from Tom Stoden and Claiming his First Race Win of the Weekend. Amazing work Josh.

 

In Second Place was (Tom Stoden) in his Gunn TS11 with a Lap Time of 48.409 and an Average Speed of 70.35mph. Another Very Confident and Fast Drive by Tom to Achieve Second Place showing Just How Talented and Brave of a Driver Tom is Fantastic Performance Tom.

 

In Third Place was (Michel Gibbins) in his MCR S2 with a Lap Time of 48.395 and an Average Speed of 70.32mph. Really Good Drive there Michel Fantastic Car Control and a lot of Fast Race Pace. Well Done.

The Final Round of the Day for the Sports 2000's and with Joshua Law Defending his People Position at the Front Will anyone be able to dethrone our New Race Winner. Lets Find Out.

 

In First Place and Taking the Victory was (Michel Gibbins) in his MCR S2 with a Lap Time of 47.479 and an Average Speed of 89.11mph. What a Drive Michel Taking P1 and the Final Race Win. Incredible Work.

 

In Second Place was (Tom Stoden) in his Gunn TS11 with a Lap Time of 47.680 and an Average Speed of 88.95mph. Amazing work Once Again Tom Proving Just How Competitive This Racing Series for Drivers is.

 

In Third Place was (Joshua Law) in his MCR S2 with a Lap Time of 47.938 and an Average Speed of 88.92mph. Great Work there Josh Really Good Drive in Taking P3.

Focus Cup Championship (Qualifying)

 

Next Up we take a Look to the Focus Cup Championship a Racing Series which Features the use of Ford Focus Road Cars Built to Racing Specifications. Thease Cars all Use The ZTEC 2.0 TDCI Engines and Have Proven to be Very Quick and also Very Twitchy when out Racing.

 

Lets Take a Look at Qualifying to see what Drivers Have made it to the Front of the Gird to start out the Days Racing.

 

In First Place taking Pole Position and The Fastest Lap was (Simon Rudd) in his Ford Focus 2.0 TDCi Zetec S with a Best Lap Time of 58.625 and a Top Speed of 74.17mph. Great Work there Simon Very Fast Driving while Keeping the Car on the Race Track to clock in a Perfect Lap of the Indy Circuit for P1.

 

In Second Place was (Scott Parkin) in his Ford Focus 2.0 TDCi Zetec S with a Best Lap Time of 58.880 and a Top Speed of 73.85mph. Very Well Done there Scott with a Blisteringly Quick Lap To take P2 on the Grid for the First Race.

 

In Third Place was (Gary Mitchell) in his Ford Focus 2.0 TDCi Zetec S with a Best Lap Time of 59.025 and a Top Speed of 73.67mph. Very Well Done Gary Pushing Hard and Making every Millie Second Count to take P3 on the grid.

In First Place taking the Pole and Fastest Lap was (Maurizio Sciglio) in his Lotus Elise S2 with a Best Lap Time of 53.544 and a Top Speed of 81.21mph. Fantastic work there Maurizio to take P1 and start o the Front Row of the Grid.

 

In Second Place was (Jason Mcinulty) in his Lotus Elise S3 with a Best Lap Time of 53.914 and a Top Speed of 80.65mph. Very Well Done there Jason Putting in one Hell of a Quick Time to Gain P2 on the Grid.

Now it was Time to head Back to the Blue Badged Ford Machines Once again as the Modified Ford Series Rolled out onto the Race Track with each car being Heavily Modified from their Road Counterparts. With Escort Cosworth's and RS200's Roaring and Ready to go it was Time to see what the First Group A set of Drivers could do in Qualifying.

 

Due to how large the Grids were and the Fact that both Group A and Group B Have Different Races I will only be putting up results from both Qualifying Sessions from Group A and Group B. In First Place Taking Pole Position and the Fastest Lap was (David Cockell) in his Ford Escort Cosworth with a Best Lap Time of 49.872 and a Top Speed of 87.19mph. Very Well Done David Keeping that Escort on the Track Must Have Taken some Practice no Doubt Amazing work on Getting Pole.

The Final Qualifying Session of the Day Had Come and its the Enduro KA'S. with all of the Cars on the Grid being Models of the Popular Ford KA made Between 1998-2009 thease Cars were Fun City cars that could get you from A to B with Ease. They were Also Build on a tight budget meaning that Handling Performance and Comfort were a Big Selling point of thease Brilliant little cars.

Here is my homework for the Strobist. Shot with a Canon 50mm 1.8 and 430EX flash. This is a great assignment to show the effects of the background brightness. My middle shot which was with the flash about 13 feet could have stood for an aperature of 4.0 fro the 4.5 used and that would have lighted up the back wall even more. As David had suggested this shot would render the brightest background and low and behold...he was right as rain.

The elevated driving position inside the Bugatti 1934 streamlined railcar at the Citi du Train (National Railway Museum) in Mulhouse, France. Plexiglass has been installed in place of the original shutters to permit this view of the restored interior.

 

Famed for their speed records (one reached 196 km/h in 1937) a total of 88 were built in a variety of configurations, this being one of the luxury "Presidential" type. The car has a total of 16 wheels (see photo later in this group). This is the only Bugatti railcar preserved, having been converted to an inspection vehicle after retirement in 1958, and used in its new role until 1970.

On 15 March 2023 there was a significant fire in Loughborough Market Place at the HSBC Bank.

 

Fire crews were still in attendance this morning some 17 hours after the initial call, with them stating via their website "We will be in attendance for the foreseeable future".

 

The building occupied by the HSBC Bank in Market Place Loughborough is a purpose-built premise. There’s been a bank on that particular site since about 1828, the previous building being renowned for its flower-covered verandahs.

 

The current building was designed by the Leicester architects Goddard, Paget and Goddard for the Leicestershire banking Company and was built by the Loughborough building firm of Moss in about 1893. The Building News, on January 14, 1898 had this to say about the building: “The new premises of the Leicestershire Banking Company, Limited, occupy a commanding position in the Market-place, all the bank offices being placed upon the ground floor. Above them are suites of private offices, and a caretaker’s residence. The plinth is of polished red granite, above which the front is of Portland stone.”

 

The commanding position presumably refers to its prominent position next to what used to be the Corn Exchange and is now the Town Hall. In 1984 the building was added to the register of listed buildings and is Grade II listed. The listing, as can be viewed on the Charnwood Borough Council website, gives quite a comprehensive description of the impressive architectural features, including the “distyle porch”, the “part-fluted columns”, the “decorative finials” and the “decorative lead finials”.

On the external E face of Ballynahinch tower house, situated above the broken out doorway. The Sheela-na-gig is carved in raised relief on a rectangular slab. Described as having a big round head with eyes wide open; strong billowy lines across forehead; large jug ears. Lean rib, and no breasts seem to be indicated. Arms akimbo with hands joined above pudenda, shown as a deep round hole. Squatting position, knees bend, heels touching and toes turned out. This Sheela-na-gig is 'said to be a carricature of the cook, in revenge for her incivility to the tradesmen employed in building the castle'.

 

Ballynahinch Castle is on the Northern bank the River Suir. The tower house is at the W end of a rectangular bawn which has a building in the NE angle and on the S wall. It was in the possession of John Bourke fitz William Oge in 1558 but in possession of Edward Butler, brother of the Earl of Ormond, by 1587. According to the Civil Survey the Countess of Ormond was the proprietor in 1640 and 'On the sd. lands stands a castle Demolished with a Bawne on one side thereof together with a thatcht house a few cabbins all Inhabitted. The tower house is constructed of limestone rubble, roughly coursed, with remains of external harling and an external base-batter. It originally had three storeys and in the 16th century a fourth storey and a mural chamber at parapet level were added. The entrance to the tower house, at the N end of E wall, is protected by a machicolation at parapet level. The doorway is completely broken out and has been since at least 1906 when described by Crawford, who mentions a groove at the apex of the former pointed doorway, presumably a yett hole. About 2m above the former doorway is a Sheela-na-gig. The entrance lobby is protected by a large murder-hole overhead and there is a narrow guardroom to the N running E-W in the thickness of the N wall. The ground floor was accessed through a doorway, now broken out, directly in front of the main doorway. It was divided, possibly in the late 17th/18th century, by a stone wall running E-W which rises up to the stone vault above the first floor, though the upper courses of this cross-wall are gone. The internal floor level appears to have been deepened by, possibly when the cross-wall was being built. The ground-floor chamber was lit by three windows, one in the centre of the N wall, another in the S wall, slightly E of centre and a third in the W wall, blocked externally. There are also three wall cupboards. The first floor was carried on stone corbels on the E and W wall and was entered from a doorway off the mural stairs which rises from the entrance lobby within the E wall. It was lit by an unusual cinquefoil single-light window in the N wall and a flat-headed two-light window in the S wall. The stairs is lit by a number of simple flat or round-headed loops and is defended at each angle by a murder-hole. Between the first and second floor there is a vaulted mural chamber in the E wall, lit by a window at the E end of the N wall, and in the E wall there is also a small angle fireplace, in a recess in the S portion of the chamber, with a flue which exits through the wall 3m above the floor level. The second floor, above the barrel vault, is entered from the mural stair in the S wall. It is lit by five windows, two in both the E and W walls and one in the N wall. There is also a window in the S wall opposite the entrance to the main chamber and a window in the N wall, near the NW angle, which lights the stairs up to a mural chamber. There is an inserted fireplace in the W wall where there was formally a two-light ogee-headed window which was blocked up in the late 16th century. There are three wall cupboards. There may have been a gallery at the S end of the main chamber, accessed via an internal wooden stair, which would have provided access to the lintelled mural chamber in the S wall which is lit by three windows in the S wall and has two wall cupboards, one at either end of the mural chamber. In the main chamber a doorway, roughly centrally placed in the S wall, gives access to a garderobe chamber which is lit by a single-light window towards the W end of the S wall. The garderobe chute exits at the base of the W end of the S wall. Another mural chamber is accessed from a doorway W of the window embrasure in the N wall. This gives access to a stair which decends steeply to a vaulted chamber, lit by three loops, which runs N-S along the W wall. Towards the back of this mural chamber there is a partition wall with a low doorway giving access to a small unlit chamber. In the late 16th century a third floor, with a fireplace above that at second floor level, was inserted. This floor has no windows or doorway so must have been accessed from the chamber below via a wooden stair. A doorway at the W end of the N wall provides access to a stair up to a mural chamber at parapet level and gives access to the battlements. This mural chamber is also a late 16th-century addition. It is lit by three windows in the N wall and one at the N end of the E wall and is roofed with stone capping.There are good coping stones projecting from the S face of the mural chamber showing the line of the A-frame roof. There are also rafter holes in the wall above the third-floor fireplace to support a timber roof. The parapet is in good condition with stone-capped crow-stepped crenelations and drain holes and water spouts in situ.

Pile Driver OB's cab rotates into position to drive a small pile (basically, a piece of a telephone pole) in the Antonito Yard. The pile has been pointed on one end to facilitate penetration into the ground.
