For love of money.....
40th 'anniversary' of ALEC, the innocuous sounding American Legislative Executive Council at the Palmer House hotel in downtown Chicago on August 8th, 2013.
For love of greed.....they:
influence state governments and members of the national government, some of whom are also members of ALEC in favor of an extreme right-wing, pro-corporation, anti-popular agenda like....
cutting social security, extending sequester cuts that hurt the poor, elderly, minority, disadvantaged, and voiceless ( like Meals on Wheels for home-bound seniors, and Head Start programs for children ), promoting climate change denial, enacting stand your ground laws, and encouraging union-busting tactics like ending collective bargaining and 'right-to-work' laws, And, lest we forget, working for the passage of new voter ID laws, which would effectively disenfranchise, the poor, minorities, and the elderly.
In this year alone the group or its members, have sponsored 71 bills protecting corporations from being accountable for anyone's injury or death, 139 bills for the privatization of public education, and 104 bills to diminish or eliminate collective bargaining.
ALEC is mostly funded by the billionaire Koch brothers who also fund/funded the Tea Party.According to the Koch brothers the minimum wage should also be eliminated because " the minimum wage prevents people from starting their own businesses." So let's do away with the minimum wage and all so-called 'entitlement programs'. What they neglect to mention of course is that they - and there are quite a few others like them both in politics and out - are exceeding joyful at accepting government subsidies for their businesses that run into the millions of dollars.

This is my ghetto, last minute, Halloween costume. The shirt I wanted to wear with it hasn't come in the mail yet so I made due with my Bacardi shirt (yes, I bought it in Puerto Rico at the Bacardi headquarters) since it matched my hair clips. I didn't wear the wig since it needs a little work.
I wore this to Halloween Horror Nights and will wear it again on Halloween itself.
hah hah! "Poor man's red" hair X3 AKA Brown-ish hair.
My bangs are currently too long to wear correctly for anime styles now so they look dumb XP
PM me with any questions that you may have =)

Rainy day=my kid has to model. lol this isn't the image I was going for and I have another one that I'm working on, but I thought y'all should see that sometimes he doesn't like to pose!
For reasons unknown, the owners of the Roxy have decided to remove all the working neon tubing on the sign and replace it with LED tubing bullshit.
This poor lizard died from an injury a day later. Until I took his photo I didn't know he had suffered an injury. I then tried to protect him from the cats & gave him a hiding place, but sadly he died a day later.
It's rather late in the year to see them however the weather here has been very mild but wet.
For those of you who follow my photostream, you know that I'm a huge fan of photographing wildife in their natural habitat. Mammals, of an assorted variety, are on my list of favorites - generally the bigger, the better.
A highlight of any given day though is capturing through the lens a mama taking care of it's young.
On this day, Annette (skippyanne) and I were lagging behind the others while driving through Dinner Island Ranch WMA in Hendry County, Florida. It's quite a remote place - so much so that even seasoned visitors must be careful driving through the usual dense fog to even arrive at our meeting location, very early in the morning. We usually attempt a sunrise first, then begin our journey into what lies ahead.
As a rule, the first car down the path gets to scout out the wildlife first, and we had several cars ahead of us, so we weren't sure of what we would find. We decided to lag behind a bit, thinking maybe something would have been spooked by the earlier cars and run out after them and in front of us. As we drove we spotted several red shouldered hawks, feral pigs, turtles, then we took sight on the bend in the road coming up. As we turned, we spotted a doe standing not far off the road nursing it's fawn. We stopped the car and I positioned myself nearby an opened car door, while Annette was able to get out and position herself behind a standing tree. The doe knew that we were there (the fawn was obvilious), but it stood there watching us and our every move. We continued to snap of images and as it began to get a bit anxious the fawn could sense it and tried to hang on as best as it could, as it clearly wasn't done feeding. However, after about 3 minutes, the doe had enough and decided to trot off, leaving the poor little fawn dangling at first, then trotting off behind it. It was such a joy to see.
The doe clearly knew that we meant no harm as it approached us again quite inquisitively, with it's fawn in tow. I remember thinking that I hope that it would learn not to do that once hunting season was opened.
Wildlife (mammals - birds excluded) can sometimes be a challenge in Florida, but are quite rewarding when they present themselves, in good view & light, especially when they are caught in the most natural behavior such as this.
On this day, being the last car paid off, as no one else had this same encounter. We both felt truly blessed. There were other wildlife sightings for us that day, but for us this is as good as we could have hoped for. Seeing a panther, a primary predator of the white-tailed deer, out there would have been awesome too, but I think that would have spoiled the tranquil moment for us.
:-)
Thanks so much for all of your comments and views.
I hope that you're having a wonderful weekend!
The Gentry Eagle was once the fastest motor yacht, able to attain 63 knots... But it's been parked in Ventura Harbor since 2011, untouched, unloved and unwashed. It's really sad-looking now, but I wouldn't have placed my "Topside Detail" advertisement in front of her... It might suggest one's best work.

She loved the Astros, as her lovely placard there says, but the Astros just left her back at the old empty stadium once they took off to their new digs downtown. :'(

This goes under the theory that all photographers originally got sweet cameras so their MySpace self-pics would be awesome... and that they kept them for the same reason.
The on-the-fly nature of the march and its diversion from the set plan caused some problems for people who don't like to think ahead. Personally, I think it's always a bad idea to try to drive downtown, but it was the height of foolishness for anybody to think they were going to drive anywhere near downtown on Saturday. This march had been well advertised all over the media, and there's no excuse to not know this would be going on. But some people figured that even though 50,000 people were expected to stream into Federal Plaza, they could still drive down Clark Street, which runs on Federal Plaza's west side.
This led to a problem when the march continued on Jackson past Federal Plaza toward Lasalle. Lasalle is one block west of Clark, so all the people on Clark were suddenly blocked by 250,000 marchers. The city belatedly closed Clark at Adams, a west-running one-way, but then the march turned north up Lasalle and wound up blocking Adams, too. So all the people on Clark were suddenly trapped.
These two guys, a cabbie and a Papa John's pizza delivery guy, were noisily bitter, and were taking it out on the poor traffic control woman in the yellow coat. Eventually, there wound up being a rebellion, as a bunch of the cars trapped on Clark wound up driving the wrong way on Adams down to Dearborn. I ultimately don't know what this got them, though, as the marchers on Lasalle now had the Loop almost completely surrounded. People who know the city could escape on Lower Wacker, but I think a lot of people wound up sitting for a while.
