The view over the Dettifoss waterfall, falling in the Jökulsárgljúfur canyon, and the basaltic plane around, north Iceland.
Dettifoss, Tumble Falls, is a waterfall originated by the Jökulsá á Fjöllum river, which flows from the Vatnajökull glacier and collects water from a large area in Northeast Iceland. The falls are 100 m wide and have a drop of 45 m down to the Jökulsárgljúfur canyon.
In the distance is visible another waterfall: Selfoss. Selfoss is the first of the three big waterfalls of the Jökulsá á Fjöllum river. It is located about one kilometre to the south of the mighty Dettifoss. It is 10 m high (8-14 m). It derives its name from the abandoned farm Holssel.

The castle entrance on the town side has an effective defence system with two portcullises, a massive door and a machicolation. The portcullises were operated from control rooms on different floors, with no communication between them, to guard against possible treachery by soldiers.
The first portcullis passed through an opening in the floor which also served as a machicolation through which projectiles might be dropped upon attackers. The second portcullis was operated from the lower level. The entrance was also defended by two projecting towers with loopholes suitable for firing of bows and crossbows.
A portcullis is a latticed grille made of wood, metal or a combination of the two.
A machicolation is a floor opening between the supporting corbels of a battlement, through which stones, or other objects, could be dropped on attackers.
UPDATE (April 2011): Seems we couldn't get an accurate report from my gynecologic oncologist. According to my other oncologist (the one who will be performing my chemotherapy), the washings showed cancer cells in them. Therefore, even though the report said 3A, this would make it a 3C. She was very encouraging though. She said that treatment for ovarian cancer is better than it was even a few years ago. Also, she said it's "treatable and still potentially curable". When I asked her what the chances are of it recurring within the next 5 years, she said about 1 in 2. But, we have a great God! Regardless of the outcome, he is there with me and my family. Your continued prayers would be greatly appreciated.
Up until last Thursday, 3/17/11, we had believed that my cancer was Stage 2. No one told us otherwise. However, apparently that is not the case. It's Stage 3A, Grade 3. Please continue to keep us in your prayers. Thanks!
During a surgery I had last week for cervical dysplasia (precancerous growth), additional exploratory surgery was performed at which point suspicious spots were found. After being biopsied and after additional tests were run, it showed that I have ovarian cancer. Tomorrow at 10:20am E.S.T., I will be having a complete hysterectomy (which will include removal of my ovaries and fallopian tubes). My family and I would greatly appreciate your prayers.

the mural abandoned by siqueiros many years ago has been completed for him by project artists unknown....i've visited this site many times since fall of '08....always find something new to focus on....the floor lamps were not installed when i was last here...they give a wonderful illumination to the mural and dark caverous room.
