A long way from Spring and not a hill in sight - yet Spring Hill is the location of this scene! On the second day of winter in 2013, with an outside temperature of 8 degress, T363/T385/T381/B65 are seen approaching the less than aptly named Spring Hill with empty SSR ballast train 8M26.

While travelling to West Texas, we passed a section of roadway where these massive grasshoppers were out in force. Apparently their emergence is fairly rain-dependent.
I know this image isn't going to appeal to everyone, with no dramatic light or even a real subject. I guess it's sort of Palouse-like but without the Palouse. I've been thinking a lot about sagebrush, the west, and sense of place lately, and this image kind of drives all of that home for me. I hope you like it.

This collage was made entirely from magazine strips with a technique I call "painting with paper." I cut the paper into different shapes and layer them in such a way that they look almost like the brushstrokes in a painting.

The Morris Plains station on Jersey Transit's "Morris & Essex" line. This was originally the main line of the Delaware Lackawanna & Western Railroad (Lackawanna). Electrified service runs from Hoboken to Dover NJ.
The DL&W was a railroad connecting Pennsylvania's Lackawanna Valley, rich in anthracite coal, to Hoboken, NJ (with rail and ferry service to New York City), Buffalo and Oswego, New York. It merged with the Erie Railroad in 1960, forming the Erie Lackawanna Railroad, and was absorbed into Conrail in 1976.
