Mow Cop 'castle' stands almost a thousand feet above sea level and from this vantage point the hills of North Wales can usually be seen on the horizon. The Jodrell Bank radio telescope is often clearly visible in the middle distance. Manchester is twenty-five miles to the north and Liverpool thirty-five miles to the northwest. The Cheshire Plain is rich farming country, and for centuries its lush meadows have helped to provide some of the finest dairy produce in Britain.
