I love the prairie grasses and bushes in autumn for abandoned farmhouse pictures but do not usually get the chance to shoot wildlife amidst them.
This is the rare plain tanager that I photographed a few years ago in Costa Rica. They are limited to select regions of the country and I was very fortunate to spot one when I was in the country.

This young Bison is a few years from contending for the females but is old enough to get caught up in all the bellowing and excitement of the Bison rut !!
Elk Island National Park
The Bison were acting really unnerved today at Elk Island National Park, not sure if they were feeling vulnerable with the deep snow and extremely cold -30 C / -22 F temperatures, or if a predator was in the area !!
Okay...so yesterday was my first day birding for a couple of months. Although, sciatica remains to be a pain in the arse (literally), it was so good to drive out to the Salisbury Plain to look for some migrating whinchats. The trip was a success! Plenty of stonechat about also!!
Thank you for taking a look at my images.
This big boy was peacefully grazing and lifted its head to check me out before continuing. The Plain's Bison is one of two subspecies of the American Bison. A big bull can be 1.75 m tall and weigh 900 kg.

Also called "Common Branded Skipper"
Just when I thought my butterfly season was coming to an end, I found a Skipper that I have never seen before.
Thanks to John Acorn again for the identification. John told me that this one is never common here.

I'm posting this impressive bison bull to set up tomorrow's post. The Plains Bison is a North American giant. They stand 6 ft. tall at the shoulder. Average weight for bulls is 1,600 LBS and they weigh up to 2,000 LBS. Wood bison are slightly larger with an average weight of 1,800 LBS and they max out at around 2,200 LBS.
Plain but beautiful! It is a typical bird of the Atlantic Forest. They occur in Eastern Brazil, from Alagoas and Bahia to Rio Grande do Sul. Sometimes they come in packs of more than 20 parakeets! It's a blessing!

Also known as the Plain Wren-warbler or White-browed Wren-warbler. They are typically found in wet lowland grassland, open woodland, scrub and sometimes gardens. This was clicked in the well maintained garden of the Bekal Fort situated in Kasargod District, Kerala.
