Janvier 2011, Bordeaux, France.

Place de la Bourse was one of the places people gathered to commemorate after the 2016 Brussels bombings on the morning of 22/03/2016.

Flowers, candles, messages and words.

2016 Brussels bombings

On the morning of 22 March 2016, three coordinated nail bombings occurred in Belgium: two at Brussels Airport in Zaventem, and one at Maalbeek metro station in Brussels. In these attacks, 32 victims and three perpetrators were killed, and over 300 people were injured. Another bomb was found during a search of the airport. Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) claimed responsibility for the attacks.

The bombings were the deadliest act of terrorism in Belgium's history. The Belgian government declared three days of national mourning.

After the craziness of yesterday's #1 on Explore (Flickr really does tend to think my iphone photos are more interesting... Do you?) back to the series...

I may have a few more and I'm thinking I'm going to put the series on the wall of the house I just bought (crazy grown up stuff).

Hello to all new contacts, will try and get around to looking at your streams as soon as possible!

Meanwhile, fly home from France tonight. Hundreds of other photos to edit, weddings to photography and a new job to start. But, one step at a time - breakfast!

McDonald's Bruxelles Bourse 14/03/2025 11h24

A plaque in the lobby of McDonald's Brussels Bourse which was the first McDonald's restaurant in Belgium in 1978. McDonald's lagged behind its rival Quick for a long time but the number of restaurants is now many times more than Quick. Currently (*03/2025) McDonald's has 119 restaurants in Belgium compared to 76 Quick restaurants, 57 Burger King and 21 KFC.

A photo especially taken and uploaded for the Wednesday Walls Group.

PA_1177 [30 points]

A space invader in the center of Paris in the style of the ESA (European Space Agency). Invader invaded the locations of ESA in Redu (Belgium), Frankfurt (Germany), Noordwijk and Paris and this one can be considered as an urban satalite of these special invasion waves. This one is located low and quite fresh during my visit.

Save the planet and the space invaders!

Place de la Bourse

I’m going back and re-working some shots from an early 2009 trip to France. If I’m not mistaken, this is 1/2 of the buildings that make up Place de la Bourse, which is home to a stock exchange, customs office, and a maritime museum. Built between 1729-1755, the neoclassic buildings mirror each other and face outward toward the Garonne River.

A stormy sky broods over Bordeaux’s most iconic ensemble: the majestic Place de la Bourse, perfectly mirrored in the Miroir d’Eau. Built between 1730 and 1775, this architectural masterpiece was a bold statement of royal authority and urban elegance, designed by Jacques Gabriel and his son Ange-Jacques Gabriel—who also worked on Versailles. The central pavilion originally housed the Bourse (stock exchange), flanked by the Hôtel des Douanes and the Palais de la Bourse.

In the 21st century, the addition of the Miroir d’Eau—the world’s largest reflecting pool—brings the classical facades to life with modern flair. Created by landscape artist Michel Corajoud in 2006, it alternates between shallow water and mist, drawing photographers, children, and flirtatious flâneurs alike.

The newly renovated car-free city centre of Brussels is being discovered by locals and Belgian visitors alike. As the corona virus is still in the country and the number of infections is rising, many Belgians prefer to spend summer at home and visit the capital city.

This is from last years trip to Bordeaux. There's a place called "Miroir d'eau", where kids and adults alike spend some quality time together.

The place was created by landscape artists Claire and Michel Corajoud.

Corajoud replaced the working docks on the Garonne River with a giant rectangle of ½ thick water. Just enough water over a black granite (?) plaza to create a surface large enough to reflect the entire 18th century Stock Exchange building. The mirrored images of the building at night have already become a photo tourist's "must have" picture in Bordeaux.

Read more about it here.
