Había visto varias fotos nocturnas del tranvía de Burdeos en Place de la Bourse y llegué a esta bella ciudad con muchas ganas de tener mi propia versión. Estaba pasando unos días de vacaciones con mi mujer y unos amigos y les rogué que me concedieran un tiempo razonable hasta que consiguiera la imagen que buscaba. Tengo muy claro que cuando hago fotos, no hay nada mejor que ir solo o con la compañía de otros aficionados que compartan tus rarezas. Nada más llegar a la Fuente de las Tres Gracias, los comentarios críticos no tardaron en llegar: "¡¡Pero qué foto vas a sacar, si es de noche!!" "Hay coches y gente caminando, te va a quedar horrible". Lo peor vino cuando saqué de la mochila un pequeño trípode Gorilla y me tumbé en el suelo para encuadrar la escena. "¡Qué desastre de hombre, tirado en plena calle con su mejor pantalón!" - clamó indignada mi enfurecida mujer. Por si fuera poco, el encuadre a ras del suelo no era nada fácil. De tanto retorcerme para mejorarlo, se me estaba bajando el pantalón y comenzaba a asomar esa zona donde la espalda pierde su casto nombre, algo que fue celebrado con regocijo por mis crueles acompañantes quienes documentaron el momento con un buen número de ignominiosas fotos. Considerando el ambiente tan poco favorable que rodeó su realización, la verdad es que la foto no quedó nada mal y hasta mis escépticos amigos reconocieron que era mejor de lo que esperaban. Sobre como quedó el "making of" prefiero no hablar, que uno tiene una imagen intachable y hay que mantenerla contra viento y marea.
I had seen several night photos of the Bordeaux tram in Place de la Bourse and I arrived in this beautiful city with a lot of desire to have my own version. I was spending a few days on vacation with my wife and some friends and I begged them to give me a reasonable amount of time until I got the image I was looking for. I am very clear that when I take photos, there is nothing better than going alone or with the company of other fans who share your rarities. As soon as we arrived at the Fountain of the Three Graces, critical comments were not long in coming: "But what photo are you going to take, if it's nighttime!!" "There are cars and people walking, it's going to look horrible on you." The worst came when I took a small Gorilla tripod out of my backpack and lay on the ground to frame the scene. "What a disaster of a man, lying in the middle of the street with his best pants!" - cried out indignantly my enraged wife. As if that were not enough, framing at ground level was not easy at all. From so much squirming to improve it, my pants were falling down and that area where the back loses its chaste name began to appear, something that was celebrated with joy by my cruel companions who documented the moment with a good number of ignominious photos. Considering the unfavorable atmosphere that surrounded its realization, the truth is that the photo was not bad at all and even my skeptical friends recognized that it was better than they expected. I prefer not to talk about how the "making of" turned out, because one has an impeccable image and one has to maintain it against all odds.

It's been over 4 months since my last upload on flickr, boy how time flies. My friends, I'm so sorry I had to abandon all of you. I had to take some time to settle into my new city/job and planned a wedding that will take place on August 2010. Now that things are starting to move a little slower around here I might actually have some time to spare for flickering with you guys.
I'm sorry to say I won't have as much time for flickr as before, but I'll be around. Even though I haven't posted a photograph on flickr in close to 5 months I've been around nearly everyday, I just never had the time to finally jump back into it and post a shot. I've seen some of the work you guys and gals have been posting though and let me tell you it's been inspirational. Can't wait to start commenting on your work again.
When I decided it was finally time to post a shot, it was the question, well what photograph do I post. So of course I would head back to my large collection of photographs from Place de la Bourse in Bordeaux. France. My most popular shots come from this very spot. If you have not seen them click here, here, and here. These shots get me dozens of views a day every day. So why not start 2010 off with a Bordeaux!!!!
I looked through all of my shots that I posted on flickr of Place de la Bourse and noticed I didn't have any shots that were captured during the day, this of course being because it looks absolutely magical during the blue hour and at sunset. But with some nice clouds and some blue sky it can look pretty amazing during the middle of the afternoon as well. I hope everyone enjoys this view.
I don't know this little girl and her grandfather in the background, but thanks for helping me capture this wonderful moment!! =)

In a stunning act of efficiency, I somehow managed to delete the shots of this place at sunset from my memory card prior to downloading them onto my laptop. Balls.
Still, it's pretty cool when the blue sky is reflecting in the water feature.
Trying to go through the images in some sort of order, but no doubt that will go out the window soon ;)

The Miroir d'eau ("Water Mirror") in Bordeaux, France is the World's largest reflecting pool, covering 3,450 square metres. It is located on the quay of the Garonne river, in front of the Place de la Bourse, and was built in 2006.
It is made of granite slabs covered by 2 cm of water.
La Place de la Bourse, a Bordeus, és un lloc fantasticament recuperat per la ciutat. Amb l'inmens Garona al darrera, una gran extensió davant les façanes barroques ha estat convertida en un gran brollador d'aigua arran de superficie, que tan es converteix en un mirall aquatic dels edificis, com forma una boira baixa misteriosa enmig de la ciutat.

The Place de la Bourse, in Bordeaux, is an awesome mixture of XVIII and XXI urbanism. Adding to the spectacular and versailles-like façades, some years ago they built a kind of big surface fountain you can walk through. The hundreds of water spouts can produce a fantastic mirror of the façades, or a misty atmosphere.

I definitively love this place : "Miroir d'eau" (Water Mirror in English), in Bordeaux, France.. Besides, you can see more photos I took of this place in the "Bordeaux" set...
When a photographer, or a tourist, comes in Bordeaux, he always takes a photo of this place… and the problem of that is that there are so many photos of the “Miroir d’eau” (a thin film of water on the floor, make great reflection effects, and sometimes produces a mist) with children playing with water, with the reflection of the opposite “Place de la Bourse”, of the sky, etc… that makes it hard to take a creative photo here.
After an evening shooting here, I decided to go back home as the light getting rare at sunset, with no interesting pictures… But just before leaving, I saw this woman, standing here, a bit lost, staring into space, just when the mist comes up from the water mirror, and surprisingly, all the crowd who likes staying here just left at this particular moment…
This woman was here, for sure, but on this photo the contrast was so intense between the colors of the sunset and the black women underexposed make an impression of emptiness. It seems that someone cuts with scissors the silhouette of this woman… Despite, we still can see some detail of the face, and legs.
That’s why I called this one “Absence” , a melancholic reminiscence of a close person…
