The Place de la Bourse, in Bordeaux, is an awesome mixture of XVIII and XXI urbanism. Adding to the spectacular and versailles-like façades, some years ago they built a kind of big surface fountain you can walk through. The hundreds of water spouts can produce a fantastic mirror of the façades, or a misty atmosphere.

Place de la Bourse reflected in the Mirroir d'Eau (Water Mirror), Bordeaux, Aquitaine, France

Night and classic image of the Bordeaux Tram in the Place de la Bourse.

Many people have made this picture before than me but if you visit Bordeaux is very hard to resist the temptation ... it may seem that the train and the buildings are reflected on a deep pond, but the truth is that the water layer just has a couple of inches deep. And the children enjoy a lot running on the water.

The riverfront esplanade in Bordeaux, along the River Garonne.

Several kilometers of the riverfront in Bordeaux has recently undergone a very stylish renovation that compliments the neoclassical architecture of Bordeaux beautifully.

I was particularly entranced by this water feature in front of the Place de la Bourse. As we sat nearby we watched the stillness of these reflected water surfaces change to water spouts that then produce a magical mist...which slowly fade to reveal the city behind....and so the cycle went on!! Very interactive too....!!

'Joie de vivre'. Violinist, Miroir d'eau (Water mirror), Bordeaux, June 2016. This delightful young woman was playing her violin in the fountain, skipping & dancing on the water, bathed in late afternoon sunshine, followed by enraptured children, like a modern day pied piper! A surreal and beautiful moment. She explained to me that she came here to play her violin after work, to conquer her performance anxiety as she was joining an orchestra, and happily posed for more photos as she played another piece for me... a golden angel...

The buildings of Bordeaux's Place de la Bourse reflected in the Miroir d'Eau as the sun goes down over the city.

The Place de la Bourse is the centuries-old heart of old Bordeaux, with grand buildings linking the riverside with the old city.

The riverside square was renovated in the 18th century by architect Ange-Jacques Gabriel, with the majestic old stock exchange and the Hotel des Fermes flanking the open space around the 1864 Fontaine des Trois-Graces.

In more recent years, the square has seen the city's modern tram network run through its heart, while the Miroir d'Eau, a spectacular flat water feature which intermittently reflects the city and sprays mist in which children of all ages play in, is a popular new attraction busy throughout the day.

The Place de la Bourse and its refelction in the water mirror, miroir d l'Eau, both great attractions in Bordeaux France. From Wikipedia Place de la Bourse is one of the most recognisable sights of Bordeaux. Its architect was Ange-Jacques Gabriel. It was built from 1730 to 1775. Place de la Bourse - Bordeaux, France.

Everything in Bordeaux seems to revolve around its main square, the Place de la Bourse, which was laid out in the 1700s by Louis XV. In the middle of the square is its centerpiece, the fountain of The Three Graces, built by Visconti (same architect who created Les Invalides in Paris) in 1869. The Three Graces refer to the three daughters of Zeus: Aglaia, Euphrosyne and Thalie.

Back to Bordeaux again...

This was one of my favourite evenings in Bordeaux for taking photos. The sky was picture perfect and the old architecture looked marvelous with this breathtaking sky as a back drop.

This is Place de La Bourse in Bordeaux. Where I took this photograph.

I had seen several night photos of the Bordeaux tram in Place de la Bourse and I arrived in this beautiful city with a lot of desire to have my own version. I was spending a few days on vacation with my wife and some friends and I begged them to give me a reasonable amount of time until I got the image I was looking for. I am very clear that when I take photos, there is nothing better than going alone or with the company of other fans who share your rarities. As soon as we arrived at the Fountain of the Three Graces, critical comments were not long in coming: "But what photo are you going to take, if it's nighttime!!" "There are cars and people walking, it's going to look horrible on you." The worst came when I took a small Gorilla tripod out of my backpack and lay on the ground to frame the scene. "What a disaster of a man, lying in the middle of the street with his best pants!" - cried out indignantly my enraged wife. As if that were not enough, framing at ground level was not easy at all. From so much squirming to improve it, my pants were falling down and that area where the back loses its chaste name began to appear, something that was celebrated with joy by my cruel companions who documented the moment with a good number of ignominious photos. Considering the unfavorable atmosphere that surrounded its realization, the truth is that the photo was not bad at all and even my skeptical friends recognized that it was better than they expected. I prefer not to talk about how the "making of" turned out, because one has an impeccable image and one has to maintain it against all odds.

Hello everyone! Well it's been exactly a month since my last post. Sorry I've been M.I.A. for so long, I know I've missed a lot and I've started to catch up on a few of your streams. I might not catch up with every single photo, but we'll see what happens within the next couple weeks.

In honour of my long absence let's take a quick break from the classical streets of Vienna, Austria and head back to where this journey I'm taking you on all started, Bordeaux.

This is a closer view of the elegant Place de la Bourse. Where I took these shots: here and here. I was lucky enough to catch the cobble stones a little wet after a passing shower. The blue hour was beautiful on this night too. The photograph is pretty much straight out of the camera. Just a few adjustment in camera raw and some sharpening. I wish everyone could see this in LARGE, it's one of the sharpest night shots I've taken in this area.

So that's all for now, have yourselves a wonderful week and be patient with me while I get back into this, cheers friends!
